Seth Manfield

Slik, I played bridge against Seth Manfield a while ago, and in a recent social media comment, his mom mentioned that he was an MTG champ. I added a little bit of stuff to his article, but more importantly, there is a question of notability posted there. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 6#Category:Incidents

Hi Mike,
While browsing the category tree I figured the outcome of Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 6#Category:Incidents has turned out to be rather disadvantageous and IMO need to be reversed. Student7's worst fears that the proposal would lead to mere "incidents" getting rolled up into the "accidents" and "disasters" categories, have largely come true. Furthermore, while participation was egregiously low, I believe the closure was at least unfortunate, if not procedurally incorrect. For the parent category, there was a single, not further substantiated merge !vote by an IP. For the child categories, there were substantiated and further discussed keep !vote by a rather experienced editor, but no support for the nomination. The nominator's rationale was based on considering an incident just any "event or occurrence". However, Wiktionary is no WP:RS, and professional dictionaries clearly disagree, see Merriam Webster, Cambridge. While Oxford and Collins emphasize a broader definition, there is agreement that "incidents" refer to unplanned, uncommon events, which is exactly why we used to have these categories. Notability of incidents of course has to be determined case-by-case, but incidents that are no accidents nor disastrous clearly may be notable. Further subcategorization may define the inclusion criteria more precisely.
I'm therefore asking you to please resubmit/relist the nomination, even though it was concluded more than 5 years ago. I would otherwise consider a WP:DELREV, as I consider the discussion's outcome a significant problem that needs to be reevaluated. Best regards, PanchoS (talk) 12:11, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
