Unreal Media Server

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Unreal_Media_Server

Section "Reviews and Tutorials" has links to magazines that reviewed the product; that should satisfy the notability requirements. Does it?

Also, please take a look at the page history and read my talk with editor Excirical, where I explain my position, briefly: we just want this software to be added into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_streaming_media_systems but ithout having the article, this is impossible. Please suggest what can be done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.242.76.129 (talk)

  • Hello, you have just declined this article again and asked for notability sources. Please read the paragraph above.

What other notability sources can be there for proprietary software product, other than magazine and community reviews? Reviews from TMCNet and others - have you open them? Take a look at proprietary streaming servers at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_streaming_media_systems Their noitability sources are also reviews from the industry, what else can be used?

    • Hello, I have moved "reviews and tutorials" section into external links; I think this is what you wanted. These links do provide reliable notability sources; these are reviews by industry. I thought that it was OK to have these links under separate category ("reviews and tutorials"), but if they must be under "external links", no problem, now they are there. Please review and get back to me.
      • OK, I have moved "reviews and tutorials" section into "References" section. Is that what you want? Note that the second reviewer was satisfied with notability, he just needed citations. After I did citations, you criticized the "advertisement language" which I think is OK now. The software product is used by thousands of users and there is enough coverage in the internet; I included most prominent reviews.

Pearltrees Submission

Hi. Just wondering if there was anything else you thought needed changing on the page to make it acceptable for publication? There are no other copyright violations and all your suggested changes/edits have been accepted. If there's anything else, please advise. Thanks!--OWStarr (talk) 15:51, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Millermk90,

I hope you're having a great day!

I received a message stating that an article I submitted for creation was rejected because it violated an internet article. The online article that it referenced is one that I have NEVER seen before. What should I do to get the process moving again?

Thanks so much!

Article on Pt.Lajja Shankar Jha, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Jabalpur

Hi, The article referred above is reviewed twice and I suppose you took hard pains to read and assess its standard for wikipedia. Two points are mentioned as reason for rejection- 1-"This article is very promotional, and needs to be reworded to stay neutral"- My point is how can a history of school which is 108 years old can be biased. It's a history of a school and not a product in itself. 2-"This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources"- Submission was based on history published in the school magazine publication(scanned reference is uploaded on the Facebook and link is provided with the article). If this you consider as 'Not reliable' what else can be? That's why I find no article on this very old and reputed school. I hope this is not the problem of language. If it is then how can we write the articles and provide the references? Thanx and regards, Sharad — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.205.7.167 (talk) 16:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Can you please tell me specifically what needs to change in the FlexWage solutions article for it to be published?

AFC Kreemo

Hello there!

Thanks so much for your feedback. The text that you referenced as being copied is a portion of the company's official mission statement. That content is a standard piece of information that will probably be used by several writers or interviewers. Would you suggest that I just delete that whole portion? Even it is the property of the company and not the interviewer who wrote the article you referenced?

Thanks so much!

Madrid Metropolitan Plan

Hello,

You were kind enough to review my Article for Creation on the Madrid Metropolitan Plan. I understand that the sources need work. I am far less sure of where to start (this is my first article). What were some (or all) of the specific things that you found insufficiently sourced? I am very eager to learn and appreciate your helping to maintain the high standards I respect in Wikipedia. Thank you for your time and assistance.

I made major changes to this article on Saturday and resubmitted. It still has the same comments to change what I have changed already and it says there are 638 articles waiting ahead of it... same as it did when I first submitted it. The rejection notice said I could make changes and resubmit, but I've gotten no notice that it's been reviewed. Please let me know what's wrong this time Elissa McEwen (talk) 13:58, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Approval

Because of a problem with my unified login I am unable to login in to other projects as millermk. I'm posting this to confirm that I am the one who edited http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/SUL_requests on 7/29/2012 to request a unification of my account.

I have moved this back, but I redirected Radio Frequency Quadrupole rather than deleting it, because there are several incoming links to it, which will now work correctly. There is no need to retarget them - see WP:REDIRECT#NOTBROKEN. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:12, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

"Tablets" problem in Windows 8

Hi, Millermk

I wanted to let you know that I have reverted your edit in Windows 8 because it had two big problems. You see, your edit summary reads "No one said Windows RT was only for tablets"; but the original sentence never said "only tablets". The fact is that Windows RT runs on tablets with ARM architecture; whether it runs on anything else is beyond our scope. However, when you removed the word "tablet", the next sentence, whose object is "such devices" lost its sense.

The second problem is that according to MOS:LEAD, the lead section of the article must summarize the article. This sentence was summarizing the section "Tablets/convertibles" of the article. If Windows RT runs on anything else, the article body must discuss it; there should be no such implication in the lead without the article body saying it.

Hi Millermk, thanks for reviewing my article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Collateral_Management_Conference There was not enough reliable sources, so as this year's conference has finished already, I was able to add 2 more sources about the 6h Annual Collateral Management event and also the short section about it. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Submission Question

Hi Millermk,

You recently reviewed my article on BioLite ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/BioLite ) and it was denied since it sounded more like advertising. I looked through it and you were right - this is my first article and I think I got a little too excited. I went through and made sure all my statements were backed up with sources and I changed the adjectives I had in such as "competitive" and "unique." Can you take another look? If it's okay, then great! But if not, can you recommend some changes?

Thanks!

SATMAP Inc.

Hi, I would like to enquire about my draft article on SATMAP Inc.. Is the section on Clients the part which contributed to the article looking like an advertisement? Which other part of the article requires improvement? Thank you for your advice!ABonheur (talk) 09:27, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

@ABonheur: The lead paragraph sounds like an advertisement and parts of it are directly copied from other pages which is a serious violation of copyright and could result in your entire page being deleted. Beyond that, the client section also sounds like an advertisement. The details of how the features work are quite verbose and could be cut back. While not bad writing in general or anything like that, the section is just a bit too technical for Wikipedia. Millermk (talk) 09:32, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

@Millermk: Hi, thanks for your prompt reply! We will look through and edit it accordingly. ABonheur (talk) 09:36, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

08:22:14, 13 April 2015 review of submission by 130.133.8.114

You declined my submission referring to Wikipedia:Notability (academics). I still claim Professor Schulze fulfills the requirements, especially point 2 (highly prestigious academic honour) or 3 (highly selective and prestigious scholarly society) since he was invited to lecture the summer courses at the Hague Academy of International Law. The Academy is probably the most prestigious Academy for international law in the whole world (just read the article about it: it has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 34 times etc. ). In nearly 100 years there have been only 1200 lectures from lecturers all over the world which seems to be "highly selective" (the Royal Society has more members, btw have a look at Category:Hague Academy of International Law people). All lectures are published in the famous "recueil des courses" ("Collected Courses", wich include an extensive biography of the lecturer) and given by "outstanding academics, practitioners, diplomats, and other professionals from all over the world". You really think this is not notable? Think again …

130.133.8.114 (talk) 08:22, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

@130.133.8.114: I understand your arguement that the lecture series makes this person notable. However, it does not fulfil either criteria two or three. Being asked to lecture is an honour in the general sense of the word, but the criteria is using honour in the sense of an award. Further, and a one time even, it certainly does not constitute membership is any kind of society or other organization. While i recognize that you have put significant work into the article, keep in mind that the notability policies exist for a reason. Sometimes (and i know its hard because i have gone through the same process) you simply have to accept that a topic isn't notable. On the other hand, you may be able to show notability under other criteria or using further sources. 20:10, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

So you want to say: Wikipedia does provide a list of the teaching staff of the Academy but the staff is not "notable". Its members contribute to the "most important encyclopaedic publication on private and public international law available" wihtout the authors having "made significant impact in their scholarly discipline". It's a bit … whimsical, don't you think? --130.133.8.114 (talk) 22:31, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

@130.133.8.114: I am not trying to argue that the school is not notable. This person is not really staff of the institution. Regardless, if they really are notable it shouldn't be hard to find other sources or other things he has done. I agree that being invited to lecture is reserved for a select few people, which i assume means that these people have other accomplishments in their career as well. Im sorry if I wasn't clear, its not that i absolutely believe that this person is not notable, its just that based on the citations you had so far it was not proven that he is notable. Again, if he really is notable, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a few more sources on him. And if it really is impossible to find any reliable sources which discuss him then he is not notable. So my advice would be to look for more sources. Or if you believe that the article in its current state has merit, then make a comment on the article stating that you disagree with my judgement on the article and resubmit it. That way a neutral third party can give a second opinion. Millermk (talk) 23:09, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

I you will excuse me to cite your notability guidelines: "invited lectures at meetings of national or international scholarly societies, where giving such an invited lecture is considered considerably more prestigious than giving an invited lecture at typical national and international conferences in that discipline". Btw: I added two reviews of his habilitation theses. --130.133.8.114 (talk) 22:10, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

@130.133.8.114: The added citations certainly help, you've done good work with the article :) I think you should resubmit, and we will let one of the other reviewers at AFC review the article. Again, feel free to leave a comment beside mine in the article with any information you would like to let other reviewers know, and even a link to this discussion if you feel that it is relevant or necessary. Good luck with the submission! Millermk (talk) 22:41, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Hai, the problem is that I am way ahead of any university or company. Thus I have to cite myself. Although wiki says self-promotion is not allowed what else can you do? I invite readers/reviewers to critique, rather than trumped up academic fraudsters.

If the article is not published that is up to wiki. However, if anyone copies my publication later I will hold wiki responsible.
