Hello, Millwrightron. Welcome to Wikipedia. I couldn't help but notice that you are adding the same www.unionmillwright.com link that has been added a number of times to articles on Wikipedia. Simply adding external links is not generally what happens here, and definitely not the same link on numerous articles, as it is often treated as a form of spam. Have a look at the welcome page for some ideas as to working on Wikipedia. I noticed the links because I spend time on union articles (WikiProject Organized Labour), and if you are interested in improving the Millwright article, or starting pages about specific unions just click on my name and leave me a message - I'd be glad to help if I can. Thanks for your help. I really thought that I was doing a service for the Millwrights. I would like to promote pride for being a Millwright. I have been a Millwright for thirty five years and I would like to share information and the history of Millwrights.What would be the best way of doing this?

Wikipedia and the millwrights

Hi Ron. Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry if you've had a bit of a rough introduction to Wikipedia! I think it’s great that you want to promote millwrights - they have a proud history. There are a couple ways for you to begin, but I would also like to caution you a little.

I understand that you like the www.unionnmillwright.com site. I've had a good look at it myself, but it is quite problematic to include the address on pages here. The issue is that there are millions of websites out there, from unions, to cures for warts (http://www.indiaspace.com/homoeopathy/warts.htm). But if Dr.Rajesh Shah here includes a link on the wart page, pretty soon there will be links to wart doctors from around the world. That's not to say his site isn't useful, but it’s at cross-purpose to the encyclopedia, at least partially because the information that the good doctor supplies is not necessarily encyclopedic, and certainly not open to review like the rest of the information here. (It is also difficult to know the motivation behind external links, the page on spam talks quite a bit about why these links get quickly deleted.) You will find that on many articles, external links are either to the website of the trade union/company/art museum being discussed on that page, or to references which verify information that is in the article.

(Whew) It looks like I'm preaching here :) I'd really like to encourage you to get involved, but in short, I'd say take some time to look at the welcome page. Don't be afraid to jump in and actually edit some of the information in the articles themselves. Try taking some of the actual history information you find at unionnmillwright.com and add it (in your own words) to a history section at the millwright page - and hold off on including the www.unionnmillwright.com link for a while. Give yourself a bit of time to get familiar with how things work, and you'll eventually see ways to provide the history and info that you want to. Cheers. About your recent edits

I changed the deletion reason for the above-mentioned page to db-copyvio, because the text appears to have simply been copied and pasted from another site [1], which would violate Wikipedia's rules about copyright. I also removed the same text from the Millwright article, for the same reason. We welcome your edits, but please don't simply add materials from other websites -- read the introduction to Wikipedia for some good information on how to make appropriate contributions.
