Scouting links[edit]

Please don't indiscriminately add external links to the Scouting articles. They are not appropriate to international articles such as Scouting. Most of the BSA articles already have a link to Scouting.org, usually in the infobox. Meritbadge.org is not relevant to Venturing, Sea Scouting or many other articles. The U.S. Scouting Service Project has an article, this it does not need an external link. Most of the articles have a link into an appropriate directory into the Open Directory Project. See WP:EL for more information. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 16:19, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added the reference to Scouting in the article Scouting in the United States because the Boy Scouts of America holds exclusive rights to the term "Scouting" in the United States. The 1916 Federal charter 36 USC § 21 et. seq. which gives the BSA "the exclusive right to use emblems, badges, descriptive or designating marks, and words and phrases [the BSA] adopts." The term "Scouting" was adopted by the BSA in 1911. Likewise, MeritBadge.org provides extensive materials for Varsity Scouts, Venturing, and Sea Scouting including rank requirements, award information, leader resources, merit badge requirements and workbooks, and much more. — Milominderbinder2 talk 18:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let's look at the links you are adding:
Wikipedia is not a directory; we have to be very selective about the content of the external links; there are so many resources on the web that a list would be longer than many articles --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 13:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the US House US Code Title 36 CHAPTER 309 - Boy Scouts of America. Per Section 30905, Exclusive right to emblems, badges, marks, and words: "The corporation (Boy Scouts of America) has the exclusive right to use emblems, badges, descriptive or designating marks, and words or phrases the corporation adopts." In addition, please see that the word "Scouting" in the United Stated is a registered trademark of the Boy Scouts of America. The article Scouting in the United States needs to note that this is a registered trademark for the exclusive use of the Boy Scouts of America. Here is the US Patent Office documentaiton: United States Trademark #73282546 SCOUTING, First Used: April 30, 1913Milominderbinder2 talk 20:22, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I agree it should be mentioned. I have however moved it from the lead to a more appropriate place. Whatever the Patent Office says there are other groups in the US who are doing Scouting and are linked to international Scouting bodies. Scouting in the United States is an overview of all this activity. There was a clear agreement about 2 years ago to have such articles for all countries to explain the broad reach of Scouting. Also, of course, the BSA allows the Girl Scouts to use the term. That should be mentioned. The patent ruling could mean that the BSA can stop other organizations from using the term, but it can not stop them existing and they would still be doing Scouting so should be mentioned here. It is therefore not a key point. --Bduke (Discussion) 23:26, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Scouting" is the exclusive trademark of the Boy Scouts of America encompassing a family of trademarked youth programs including "Boy Scouts". "Girl Scouting" is the exclusive trademark of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Look at the article on Kleenex. It starts by saying Kimberly-Clark owns the trademark and notes that other facial tissues are made by other companies. By first noting that "Scouting" is a trademark, we avoid trademark dilution of the brand "Scouting".

Hi, thanks for your edits. We have already a category Category:Intellectual property law. Category:Intellectual property redirects to it. I have added a redirect from Category:Intellectual Property (with a capital "P") to Category:Intellectual property law as well to avoid redundancies and to follow the same logic. --Edcolins (talk) 19:08, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 04:01, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Michael L. Tipsord requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.statefarm.com/about-us/company-overview/company-profile/leadership-team/state-farm-CEO. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
