A welcome from Sputnik[edit]

Hi, Mirlen/Archive1, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I'm Sputnik. I noticed that you were new and/or have yet to receive any messages so I just thought I'd pop in to say "hello". We're glad to have you in our community! I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it's so big but we won't bite so Be Bold and get what you know down in microchips! If you do make a mistake, that's fine, we'll assume good faith and just correct you: it'll take a few seconds maximum! Here, however, are a few links to get you started:

Additional tips[edit]

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
    • P.S. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Happy Wiki-ing.[edit]

Tahiri Veila[edit]

Nice job on the Tahiri Veila page. I wanted to warn you though that Image:Skywalkersolofamily.jpg has been deleted several times before so watch out for that. Jedi6 21:41, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you—she needed something on her page. Poor Tahiri is always getting neglected. Why does it always get deleted though? Mirlen
It keeps getting deleted because people forget to put a source link of where they found it. Jedi6 10:30, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prince Cor/Shasta page[edit]

Hi Mirlen,

I, too, was disappointed to notice that Cor did not have a page of his own. That's why I created it, under the name Shasta (Narnia) (since that was his first name, that's what I think of him as, but I mention on the page that his other name is Prince Cor). I also changed the NarniaCharacters template to include him, as well as Aravis, Bree, and Hwin. (I mean, hey, if they can put an extremely minor character like the Tisroc in there (!), certainly Shasta, et al. deserve to be on the template.) I have thrown a lot of HHB plot into the article, which isn't really what I wanted, but just making the page was the first goal. Maybe you can help me weed out the extra stuff or what doesn't really apply to a description of Cor.

Also, I don't know how much you know about whatlinkshere pages, but for some reason, the Prince Cor redirect page (which I changed to direct to Shasta (Narnia)) still lists all of the characters that have the NarniaCharacters template on them as linking to that redirect page, even though I fixed the template so that it links to the Shasta article directly. I don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. If you don't know how to help, can you direct me to someone who does?

At least you can cross "create a Cor page" off of your list of things to do.  :) Happy editing! --Cromwellt|Talk 22:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, good job! Yeah, I was going to get it to it sooner or later...I'll see if I can expand his and Aravis's page a bit more though. Yeah, the Prince Cor page redirects to the Shasta page, so whatever's Prince Cor's page shouldn't matter, right? Sort of confused on what you're saying, but I'll see what I can do. Oh yeah, and I'll erase it, since I didn't create his own page :). I cross it off, if I was the one who had done it. Can't take that away from you, now can I? *winks* —Mirlen 00:13, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem about leaving your note to me here, sometimes people only do that, so I try to keep an eye on the userpages where I comment, too.
Thanks for giving me the credit, but I wouldn't have minded it the other way.  :) Please do expand those pages. The issue I was having (haven't checked if it went away) is the whatlinkshere page (the page that tells what other pages link there, hence whatlinkshere) for the Prince Cor page, that kept listing all the pages that used to link to the Prince Cor page, but now link to the Shasta page directly. I'll check if it is fixed, but maybe I shouldn't bother about it as long as the links are to the right page, as you said. Happy editing! --Cromwellt|Talk 17:23, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On an unrelated topic, I notice you contribute with IE. Ever thought about switching to Mozilla Firefox? It is much safer (fewer or no security holes), generally faster (streamlined with the extra add-ons (extensions) optional), and more functional (has things like a "tab" option which allows you to open more than one page in the same window, which you can switch between by clicking on the "tab"). If you haven't yet, why don't you check it out? Here's the download page: www.mozilla.com/firefox/. Later! --Cromwellt|Talk 17:35, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Square-Enix Stuff[edit]

You sure seem to like anything to do to Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts. Master Vinaki 12:32, 4 February 2006 (EST)

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar[edit]

Feel free to move the award to your user page (that's what an award's supposed to be). Deryck C. 15:57, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh, wow! That's a surprise, but a really pleasant one. Thank you! EDIT: *moved* —Mirlen 23:52, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Just one question - I'd like to know if you're a boy or a girl. Deryck C. 04:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx[edit]

I'll get you a barnstar or something soon... 68.39.174.238 17:54, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Best I can think of. If a certain article had some PD image (Or images @ all), I'd use them instead. 68.39.174.238 06:25, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can display it wherever you want. As to the usrbox, I think it's hard coded and not a template anywhere. You can make your own version or something. Thanx 68.39.174.238 19:19, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've never seen someone get obnoxious because someone else got a barnstar without the offical text. As far as I know that text is just a suggestion. 68.39.174.238 19:28, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:34, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject[edit]

I noticed you are into Star Wars editing. Are you interested in joining the Star Wars WikiProject? It's mainly a cleanup and organizational project, but things do need expansion. BTW, I noticed you were a New England Patriots fan :) Deckiller 17:13, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm a huge fan. We just got that article up to FA status. Deckiller 17:21, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, right now, our big collaboration is how to get all the characters and stubs into their right lists and/or creating specific lists, among lots of other ideas and discussions. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do for more info :) Deckiller 17:24, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we'll win next year, especially with our injured players returning. Deckiller 17:26, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Awards[edit]

Hey, I did some formatting for you, how does it look? Deckiller 20:02, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no problem. It's coming along ^_^. I'm getting a userpage facelift pretty soon myself; mine is a complete mess. Deckiller 20:06, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Heh okay, thanks =) Deckiller 20:11, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lord of the Rings[edit]

Welcome to WP! I enjoyed looking at your userboxes. Don't lose sight of the metrics: they are so much easier. (How many square inches in a square league???)

Anyway, thanks for the invitation to the portal. But LOTR is right at the fringe of my interests and only there because I'm a loyal Wellingtonian. So I think I will just stick to occasionally helping the Wikicity to grow and keep Peter Jackson in his rightful top place. I have noticed that some of the WP articles need attention - when I copy them to the Wikicity and improve them! I sometimes wonder whether all of it is encyclopaedic and think the Wikicity is the best place for much of the detail.

Good luck with the portal! Robin Patterson 05:44, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Support for Middle-Earth Project[edit]

Where do you think we should post messages asking people to join the project?I'll also get to work on creating and starting more articlesKyriakos 05:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List format[edit]

Regarding your recent change to List of Middle-earth Men, I posted a question about how we should handle lists to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Middle-earth/Standards. --CBDunkerson 13:32, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the barnstar, it's lucky my bot is programmed to accept them for me, as I am far too modest ;-) Martin 23:43, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ME Userbox[edit]

Does the ME Userbox put users in the Middle earth category? Thats a little...not so much. savidan(talk) (e@) 19:55, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What I meant was: why does the userbox make us appear in the namespace group? Shouldnt there be a category, like Middle earth wikipedians, rather than putting us in the same category as the articles? savidan(talk) (e@) 03:44, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for your stub submission. You may wish to note that it is preferable to use a stub template from Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types instead of using simply {{stub}}, if you can.

Thanks! —LrdChaos 03:35, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've taken the liberty of putting some of your content on the latter page. Naming conventions decree that we should use (Middle-earth), like Elf (Middle-earth). However, there was a Rangers (Middle-earth) page already, a disambig page to Rangers of the North, so I put your content there, rewrote, and renamed. Your article is intact. Maybe we should make your article a redirect to there. Uthanc 07:07, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. :) I'm not sure about Quenya, but they probably spoke it too; at least Aragorn could - he knew three different names for athelas - that (probably Sindarin), kingsfoil (Westron) and asëa aranion (probably Quenya.)

Project[edit]

I responded about the family trees on the standards talk page. There are more people signing up for the project - just have to figure out how to keep them informed of issues going on. Might be a good idea to have one central area on the main project page for 'current issues' which links to various things being discussed / considered / worked on. Right now we've got alot of different things all over the place... might be confusing / a bit much to absorb all at once. --CBDunkerson 01:46, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How interested am I in LOTR?[edit]

Just "interested", not enthralled. I've read the Hobbit and LOTR a few times and watched the movies numerous times. I enjoy Tolkien's vision but I wouldn't call myself an expert. (I saw the Gandalf article on one of my random trips around wikipedia and thought it needed a boost. I think it's quite decent now.) Cheers, Papeschr 04:35, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, sign me up for the project. I'm not promising any mega contributions, unless I get on a roll ;) ... Papeschr 04:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As for me, I'd prefer not to join formally, but I'l try to help a bit whenever I can. Uthanc 00:09, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Mirlen/Archive1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Cheers! Sango123 (e) 02:31, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to welcome you. — File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 02:32, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem! And yes, I do like wolves. :) Cheers, Sango123 (e) 02:41, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Same here. Every article has room for improvement, and you could definitely contribute greatly to many wolves-related ones alone. Take Arctic Wolf and Red Wolf as examples. ;) Cheers, Sango123 (e) 02:51, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Archive[edit]

Hey there, looks like it's getting close to that time for you to archive your userpage :) — Deckiller 00:22, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. It's not mine (it's generally the universal wiki one), though I do like its layout. — Deckiller 00:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
