Generale Fedele de Giorgis[edit]

Have you checked with the correct spelling? In the voice it was listed with a wrong name. Anyway, you can find a nice picture of Gen. De Giorgis with his Knight Cross on the http://www.generals.dk/general/De_Giorgis/Fedele/Italy.html page. IMHO that would anyway justify the cancellation of the reference (the reference is advancing unwarranted doubts about the award, while photografic documental evidence showns that it had been awarded). One issue and one suggestion for Iron Cross series[edit]

Hi there. I removed several images from List of foreign recipients of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, as they were non-free images, and it is generally viewed that non-free images used in the bodies of galleries or lists are not acceptable.

Secondly, since that article has multiple tables, have you considered designating the length of each column so that all of the tables have, say, portrait columns of equal length? I think it would make the article look much better, and it's an easy change to make. Sven Manguard Wha? 10:49, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact me[edit]

Dear MB! I am really surprised that you call my corrections on the article on Alfred-Karl Smidt "vandalism", while references to relevant German sources were added which show that this was not the name of the person meant. A proper research in the German military archives will show you that a person named "Alfred-Karl Smidt" never existed, but that there is a confusion with Karl Ernst Smidt. Please also look at the original article itself: it mentions completely different years of birth and of death (in the main text and the information box), which I had corrected. This already shows that two persons are confused with each other. Also the recent sources you added refer to Karl Smidt or Karl Ernst Smidt. That is why the proper entry name is really "Karl Smidt". That is not vandalism, but just a necessary correction of a widespread error. I think there should really be an entry on "Alfred-Karl Smidt", but that entry should explain how this fake name came into existence and is now so popular, despite the good documentation of the life of Karl Smidt in publicly accessible primary sources, including his own memoirs. If you want to know more about the sources, I will be most happy to help. Please contact me as soon as you can, and I will share any information with you which you might be interested in. - I wish you a happy New Year! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.76.18 (talk) 08:56, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the correction[edit]

Thank you for correcting the contradiction with the wrong dates! He died on 11 January 1984, I still vividly remember that day. And please do correct the name. Already the available printed sources from Germany are clear enough on this. Do not believe the internet, even if the form "Alfred-Karl Smidt" is now mentioned ca. 20,000 times. It only shows that everyone is copying from each other without once checking the really relevant literature and primary sources. I am sorry for insisting. I hope to hear from you. I would be happy to provide photos and written documents to you if you wish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.76.18 (talk) 09:57, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SS-Obersturmführer Stehr[edit]

SS-Obersturmführer Gert Stehr of the Fuhrer Escort Detachment. What awards did he receive? I know he was Mohnke's adjutant but did he win the Knight's Cross? Huh? (Ever heard of WP:AGF, or just plain good manners?) Pdfpdf (talk) 12:24, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but what does good faith and manners have to do with answering a yes/no question with a simple no. I hardly ever use edit summaries. MisterBee1966 (talk) 12:35, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. You win. (i.e. Whatever ... ) Pdfpdf (talk) 12:38, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think Pdfpdf was trying to point out, politely, that you are in breach of the guidelines on edit summaries, which say, in a nutshell, “always leave an edit summary”.
This is because "Accurate summaries help other contributors ...understand the change", and "When a major edit...doesn't have an edit summary, there are fewer reasons to assume good faith and busy editors may be more inclined to revert the change without checking it in detail".
You are, of course, quite at liberty to continue making life more difficult for editors who come along after you, and to give curt responses to reasonable requests, but please don’t be surprised if their assumption of your good faith and civility is stretched as a result.
In passing, Xyl 54 (talk) 17:20, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough: if you don't see "When editing, be sure to summarize your contributions" as a "must" criteria, you don't see it. Xyl 54 (talk) 18:18, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dates (I hate them)[edit]

Someone dropped by and changed 2 out of 7 references to 1943 as date of death in article Ernst Kupfer. Since they didn't come back and change the rest, and I've seen too many number-fiddlers, I would normally think to revert. But... that external link to 'lexikon'? It says 1944 also. Most everywhere else says 1943. Do you have any definitive reference to check for sure?

Edit summaries[edit]

I won't template you with {{uw-editsummary}}, but could you please get into the habit of leaving an edit summary. If you add a wikilink, wl is sufficient to let others know what you've done. You can set a reminder via your user preferences. It soon becomes second nature to leave a summary. Not leaving a summary is an unsuccesful tactic that vandals try to use. Lack of summary generally gets a vandal fighter's radar going, if you see what I mean. Best, Mjroots (talk) 21:01, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Heinz Finke and Karl-Heinrich Fink Talk SNAFU[edit]

MisterBee1966 I am wondering if you can help me out, I need to create a new talk page for Karl-Heinrich Fink without ruining the talk page for Heinz Finke. I appear to have had a brain snafu and moved around some pages this afternoon. I accredit to a lack of sleep. Any help would be appreciated.

Disambiguation link notification for October 6[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Wilhelm Anhalt, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Minesweeper (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Kurt Kuhlmey.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kurt Kuhlmey.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:06, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
