Knight's cross recipients of the 29th ID[edit]

Indeed! I told you before the reason, the reason is that it follows groupings of existing publications. You then responded that you feel that the existing links are sufficient, that is POV. I then responded by my POV, telling you that to me they add value (ease of navigation, not cluttering the respective article with a "see also" section). I simply wanted to know what was the purpose of those templates. Personally, I can't see a value in knowing that one member of Aufklärungsabteilung 29 was awarded a Knight' Cross. Otto Weiß[edit]

It is strange. You're right; Arras was after the 18 May (21 May). The French attack at Cambrai was a day after that (22 May). The only real example I can think of, was the Battle at Montcornet on 17 May which lasted through until the 20th. On 19 May, a book I have and included on the Battle of France article last year, said the French lost 32 tanks on 17th and a further 80, roughly 50% of their strength, in another battle on 19 May. It maybe the battle on the 17th that this award relates to, but I wonder whether it could have been applied for and ratified so quickly. Does this help? According to the Luftwaffe reference volumes (De Zeng and co.) II./LG 2 was located at St-Trond-Duras in mid-May, then moved to Cambrai airfield by 21 May. On that date the unit claimed 40 tanks destroyed in the Cambrai area. perhaps it is the date that it is wrong and the success was claimed during the French attacks to the south of the German corridor on the 21-22? In that case it might not have been for Montcornet. If you are certain the author has given the correct date for the award it must have been Montcornet. Lock and Viktor Mölders[edit]

Thanks for looking at Lock.

I was doing Archie McKellar's list and he may have shot down a pilot named Viktor Mölders on 7 October 1940. Mölders was killed. Could it be the brother of the famous Werner Mölders? Hermann Hogeback[edit]

Yes. One Staffel I believe spear-headed III./LG 1's operation against British logistics between Tobruk and Sollum on 29 June 1941. I have to check the staffel. They saw an Allied fleet off the coast of T&S and then proceeded to attack the Australian warship (Destroyer) Waterhen and a small transport. On 9 July the Gruppe, but I don't know which staffel, sank the damaged HMS Defender on 9 July 1941 which was under tow at the time. Because of the inability of the German fighters to devote time and energy to operational-level interdiction targeting, the LG 1 bombers involved usually attacked Tobruk at night. Why would you go and turn a minor issue into a hostile argument? An experienced editor such as yourself should know better, or should at least be familiar with WP:OWN. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment and "Since I am the one expanding the article I do as I please" is completely unacceptable and I am sure you know that. When there is a disagreement, we discuss it, or get an outside opinion. One does not just go do what they want because they feel entitled to do so. So again I ask, please stop adding Walter Shuck's fall name at the beginning of the "Childhood, education and early career" section per WP:SURNAME. PhilbyNZ welcome[edit]

Hey there, thanks for the postive feedback. I have noticed your signature on many of the articles I've worked on. I've presumed I haven't been damaging your work, but rather just expanding on it.

I'm enthused by the idea of expanding a standard knowledge-base, rather than just reinventing the wheel with publishing yet another private webpage or keeping all my research to myself. However, I'm no IT geek, and still fumbling my way round Wiki-editing. The editing of current pages has been simple enough to learn, and I've been able to copy the format/programming protocols of similar concepts to add weblinks to ends of articles, & tables. However how to add internal article references (as you've suggested) or setting up new Wiki articles still eludes me. No matter, as I have several hundred pilot articles that DO exist to work through before I even need to think about the few that aren't up yet.

I've been collecting info on all the Jagdwaffe Ritterkreuz holders, and many of the other significant pilots of the period, mostly from fairly mainstream sources, but there are often little bits in each that when combined give a much more rounded picture. I also find it valuable to frame certain biographical events in a context of the war or the location to give a broader picture. I decided to start my editing at 'S', since most people will typically start at 'A' when cataloguing, and enthusiasm or time rund out further down the alphabet. That said, tho I might leave Herr Hartmann's victory tally list for a few years yet, as that makes for a fairly hefty wiki-table...

Finally, I'm also quite unaware of how to add pictures to articles, but I also expect there are serious legal issues as regards scanning images from published books, or even other websites, so I have instead just included a mention that they can be found at such&such a place. Thanks, Since what I am doing is amalgamating a number of seperate (often just small) pieces it can get hard to include a reference for everything in the text. However, I do add a list of all my references at the article-end (on-line & in-print). But you're right, that for specific anecdotes, or facts, I should look at citing the particular reference pages. Less than an hour later your bot ran another move

In doing this you made it impossible for an ordinary user to unwind the controversial move which was not discussed on the talk page before it was made. I strongly urge you to change your algorithm of you bot so that you do not move a page that has already been move in under 7 days (otherwise your bot can be used to make moves in bad faith that lock the page from ordinary editors reverting the change). If the position has not been unwound in 7 days (the length of time for a standard WP:RM then and only then move the page. -- PBS (talk) 18:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Our messages crossed! I understand that, but please understand, that it takes administrative action to unwind such a move (because bots will fix the redirects), and the administrators at RM are often trying to deal with a backlog. So by refraining from moving an article too quickly you will not unintentionally increase their workload. Thanks for your input. Its like beating ones head against a brick wall. Someone who can just 'walk in', review a strange subject matter and decide, for reasons that are anathema to how most articles of this type are done, goes to show how crazy Wikipedia can be. I don't 'suffer fools gladly' - so forgive my robust responses. I believe (thankfully) he has closed it. I'd appreciate it if you could step in and review it when you’re ready. Naturally as an experienced editor and reviewer, and one whom I have collaborated with many times, what is asked for will be done! I just want to get this one out of the way. Thanks again. Heya - thanks for the input tidying up the article and clarifying my edits. I've add a bundle of extra citations. It can be hard to avoid the appearance of plagiarism when there are only limited facts to narrate in a chronological order, but I do try to take them an re-write them in my own style. Certainly no cutting and pasting! The point has also been to pull assorted comments and events together from various books into a single article. Hans von Mellenthin[edit]

Hi MB, I have a question for you: do you happen to know anything about this man? I know the basic outlines, but I can't seem to find much on him. This book mentions him in some detail, but I was wondering if you knew of anything better. I'm writing a paper on German development of U-boats in the interwar years, and von Mellenthin is mentioned in Rössler's The U-boat as having done the research on what type of submarine suited the Germans best in 1914-18, but that's about it. I'd like to dig into that a bit more if I can (in large part because other things I've read have criticized the Reichsmarine for not investigating the experiences of the First World War like von Seekt did in the army, and I'd like to see what exactly they did do). Raithel[edit]

G'day, I came across a web reference to a Helmutt Raithel who was a member of the DAV Sektion Bayern in the 1960's, and led the first ascent of Mount Russell (Alaska) in 1962. It is almost certainly the same guy, but I can't find anything reliable in English to confirm it so I can put it in the article. Can you suggest a possible source or someone I could ask? Heinrich Bär (1913–57) was a German Luftwaffe flying ace in World War II. He flew more than 1,000 combat missions, and fought in all major German theatres of the war, including the Western, Eastern and Mediterranean fronts. He was shot down on 18 occasions and was credited with 220 aerial victories, around 16 of which were in the Messerschmitt Me 262, an early jet fighter. Bär joined the Reichswehr in 1934 and transferred to the Luftwaffe in 1935. Serving first as a mechanic, then as a pilot on transport aircraft, he was informally trained as a fighter pilot. He claimed his first aerial victory in September 1939 on the French border. By the end of the Battle of Britain, his tally of victories was 17. Transferred to the Eastern front to participate in Operation Barbarossa, he quickly accumulated further kills, earning the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords for 90 aerial victories in February 1942. Hermann Göring's personal dislike of Bär, coupled with Bär's insubordinate character and lack of military discipline, deprived him of higher awards. Good catch on adding Grille to the avisos template - for some reason, she's not included in Groener's first volume (I'm guessing she's in the 2nd, which is at home - I'm away for the week and won't be able to check until Tuesday probably). WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

For your information: PimboliDD is banned in de:Wiki because of his, in my opinion, poor use of sources up to the point of not mention them or mention wrong ones because the sources he used were not allowed. His newst actions in de:Wiki with this account and this IP show that he is not willing or not able to change his behaviour. Together with this users poor english I see no possibility for him to enrich en:Wikis articles but only the attempt to continue the work he has been blocked for in de:Wiki. As of this reasons I am not willing to support such things in any way. Eine durchsicht seiner jeweils aktuellen Bearbeitungen hier wird sich wohl nicht vermeiden lassen. At a loss[edit]

Hi, I noticed you re-added the Lost at sea category at the Lütjens article. That category seems to me redundant as the article has already been categorised as People who died at sea. Could you enlighten me to the differences between being lost at sea and died at sea. So far I assumed the former applied to people who perished in a shipwreck and the latter for those who died in other events, including battles at sea. I fixed the dashes and added citations to the query in relation to claims made by lost crews. I explained the Scram order in the next sentence but I have removed the full-stop to make it part of the same sentence.
I don't understand the problem with the aftermath. It is a general point made by authors about this topic and personally I think it was pertinent to point out that the lack of intruder operations were a major error by the OKL.
