Welcome![edit]

Hello, Mitchell.cobbett, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Your sandbox entry on Annell Bay[edit]

Please don't move this again. As it stand i.e. a one line article, it has no chance of surviving as it stands. It doens't explain why Annell is notable which is key for any article on Wikipedia. If you really want to start by creating an article (which is one of the most difficult things to do on Wikipedia) then please read Wikipedia:Your first article before going any further. Creating an article[edit]

If you want to create a new article, you need to ensure that your draft has is well-enough developed before you move it to mainspace.

Your article needs to be based on reliable sources which are independent of the subject of the article. Right now, you're using their LinkedIn profile, which is something they have created. LinkedIn profiles, someone's personal website, or their employer's website aren't independent sources. Find a major news site, or a journal or book about them to work from.

The second thing is that your article needs to make it clear why this person is notable. "Non Executive Director at Apache Corporation, Hunting PLC and Verisk Analytics". Apache Corporation is notable, as are Hunting plc and Verisk Analytics, so a person whose an executive with all three of them might be. But is a non-executive director? Not simply by virtue of serving on the boards of these companies, but it seems like someone who served on the boards of all three might have achieved something that got them elected to these boards. So it's promising, but you need sources that document these things, and then you need to incorporate these into the article.

Secondly, you can't create a two-sentence article about a person. You need to create something much more substantial. I have linked to the Editing Wikipedia brochure and the Biographies brochure. Please read these carefully.

According to your course timeline, you shouldn't be moving your draft to mainspace for more than a month. Wait until you've done the peer review and incorporated feedback. Then, once you have something polished, you can move it to mainspace. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:50, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
