Hello, I'm Dennis Bratland. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to OpenMarket Inc. because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. - Hi Dennis Bratland thanks for reviewing the article, I appreciate and accept your edits as too promotional. I am working on an amended version which includes is more objective and references third party sources (that aren't PR news wires) to comply with wiki's standards, but I have just realised the page has been deleted. Does this prevent any new pages for OpenMarket Inc being created? Is there any way to overturn this decision? There are many other wiki pages up for similar companies to OpenMarket and I don't want to point fingers at other companies who have similar pages up. But, I believe its important to distinguish OpenMarket Inc from the default OpenMarket article which is about a bankrupt company. Thanks Mitchelljamesfox (talk) 11:39, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- The discussion was at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/OpenMarket Inc.. There was a note at the top of OpenMarket Inc. for 4 days linking to the discussion. Note that the same article was previously deleted in 2008 for being blatant advertising. The problem is that OpenMarket Inc is not notable. The reasons you give above are not relevant to Wikipedia's criteria for keeping or deleting articles. Please read WP:Notability, and WP:CORP. You need to cite reputable, independent coverage where OpenMarket Inc is the actual subject, not merely mentioned in passing, not merely routine coverage, and not warmed over press releases. Please carefully read Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions and Wikipedia:Arguments to make in deletion discussions. If you've actually read the suggested articles, and you are certain you have independent sources that meet Wikipedia's criteria, then you should try Wikipedia:Deletion review.
Also, if you know of articles that fail Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, please do not hesitate to nominate them for deletion. We would all appreciate your help. Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to OpenMarket Inc.. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Nomination of OpenMarket Inc. for deletion[edit]
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article OpenMarket Inc. is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/OpenMarket Inc. (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
