Your GA nomination of Barry (dog)

The article Barry (dog) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Barry (dog) for things which need to be addressed. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:01, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Anti-tank dog

I have signalled my intention to review anti-tank dog, but I have noted on the article tlakpage that the article needs a copy-edit before reviewing if you'd like to comment. Skinny87 (talk) 06:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

New References

Miyagawa - I'm writing in reference to your inquiry about the American Alsatian article and the additional references which is why the article did not pass for Good article review. Yes, while its true that more third party articles have been written, I'm not sure they are reliable so I have not placed them into the text of the article. What are your thoughts on them? The new articles on the American Alsatian include: Love of Breeds, Rightpet, About Dog Breeds, Brighthub. Thanks a ton for all your help. Shepaluteprez (talk) 03:23, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Pit bull article help

Hello. It looks like you've been doing a great job on Wikipedia- thank you. I wanted to address the Pit bull page with you. I read the article for the first time today & since it sounded so... almost off-the-wall, & negative, I added a section on famous pit bulls. It was not perfect, but it was OK. Everything was cited, the information was true. It looked fine. It was deleted per Good Article guidelines, which are overarching, if not vague. Looking at the talk page of who deleted it, it seems like the deletion was driven by a personal agenda, not for the good of the article (or breed. I will let you know, I have "a pit bull." She is a mutt, including pit bull type dogs, therefore, she is the definition they've been looking for. And she is not vicious or wild or much like the wikipedia page she'd be associated with.) I understand no one is the boss of wikipedia. But I am hoping that since you seem logical, involved, and interested, you might help improve the Pit bull article for the sake of these dogs. They get a terrible rap as is, without some people's first line of definition repeating the misunderstandings. I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks for your time. American Alsatian

Hello Miyagawa- You asked me to write to you when there were new reliable sources references added to the American Alsatian page in order to determine Good Article status. There have been two additions. One from Brett Hodges and one from Bassam Imam. Brett is the owner of Rightpet a website devoted to information about breeds of dogs and the other is the author of a new e-book explaining the American Alsatian as well as hundreds of other breeds of dogs. Bassam is a third party and has written 6 other books to date, all animal related. Shepaluteprez (talk) 22:43, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Australian Cattle Dog

Hi Miyagawa,

I understand the reasoning behind the removal of the Australian Cattle Dog paragraph:

  • Molly Minogue, an 18 month old Australian Cattle Dog, fell from a ute near the small Victorian town of St. James. For 7 days "Molly" lay by the road waiting for the return of her owner. She reportedly lay in the shade of a town hall and would only move with the shade. After a thorough search by the owners, Molly was found a week later. Her wait for her owner is representative of the owner loyalty of the breed. "Molly knew that if she waited we would come back for her," her owner John Minogue stated. Her story was reported in the "Man's Best Friend" column of the Shepparton News on 12 March 2008.

But it is cited - just not in an online source. It is an interesting story, and does go towards understanding the breed. It was added in March of this year, by someone for whom this was their only Wikipedia edit. I'd like to request that the paragraph be re-instated.

Regards Marj (talk) 05:43, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

  • Yes I said I understood the policy, but the material was interesting, and it was not contentious, counter-intuitive or controversial, and it was added in good faith by a novice editor. There didn't seem to be any harm in it. I asked. I'll say/do no more. Marj (talk) 05:08, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Infobox use with Earl of Tyrconnel Carpenter line

Hello,

In the series of articles based on Earl of Tyrconnel on the Baron Carpenters (1719) & Earls of Tyrconnel (1761) - same Carpenter family line, a question about the infobox came up.

Currently I am using Template:Infobox officeholder in the general format that covers MPs and such. Template:Infobox peerage title is more basic and might be a more appropiate infobox. But that does not allow the following details like ...

Which one would be more appropiate to use? Jrcrin001 (talk) 00:18, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Announcement

Hello! I'm The Arbiter, one of the coordinators for WikiProject Zoo. I am proud to announce the launch of a new portal: Portal:Zoos and Aquariums! ZooPro, ZooFari, and I worked hard to create a new portal for information on zoos, aquariums, and the associated projects and articles on Wikipedia. If you could head on over, take a look at our work, and maybe learn some more about zoos and Wikiproject Zoo, it would be great! Cheers and Happy Editing!

January 2011

Welcome to the 2011 WikiCup!

Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. Signups are going to remain open through January, so if you know of anyone who would like to take part, please direct them to Wikipedia:WikiCup/2011 signups. The judges can be contacted on the WikiCup talk page, on their respective talk pages, or by email. Other than that, we will be in contact at the end of every month with the newsletter. If you want to stop or start receiving newsletters, please remove your name from or add your name to this list. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 12:58, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Jet of iada being award dicken medal.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jet of iada being award dicken medal.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 19:52, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, your statement that "the images require ALT descriptions. This issue does not prevent the article from being reviewed, but will be required in order for the article to marked as a GA." is incorrect. This does not appear in the WP:GACR and has also been removed from the requirment for FAs. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:11, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:52, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Principality of Sealand Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 22:38, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
