Manchester Institute of Biotechnology[edit]

Dear Mr Stephen

My name is Lesley-Ann Miller from the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Manchester, UK. I edited our wiki page to reflect our rebrand and our research strategy but note that you have reverted this back to the old site. I am responsible for internal and external communications in the MIB. Can you advise please?

Sincerely

Lesley-Ann Miller Office of the Director Manchester Institute of Biotechnology University of Manchester 131 Princess Street Manchester M1 7DN T: +44(0)161 306 8917 E: l.miller@manchester.ac.uk — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjfsslb (talkcontribs) 09:56, 21 November 2012 (UTC) (copied from User talk:Mr Stephen)[reply]

Please sign your posts to talk pages with four tildes (i.e. ~~~~). Firstly Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and is not free web space, or for advertising, promotion, or puff pieces. You do not own the article, so please be careful about phrases like 'our wiki page'.
Articles must have a nutral point of view; the article as you left it was excessively promotional. Not only that, but it was in large part lifted straight from the MIB web pages (http://www.mib.ac.uk), which have a very clear copyright notice (pointing to http://www.manchester.ac.uk/aboutus/documents/copyright/). If you want to use any of the text at the MIB web pages, then as a start the text must be released from copyright into a Wikipedia-compatible license (see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials), and the easiest way to do this is by a notice at each web page at MIB. You can also re-word the relevant information you want to add to the wikipedia article and add inline links in the form of citations to wherever you got the information from. I would edit the volume of the material drastically, so that the wikipedia page remains as concise as possible. Basically, like students writing essays, a 'cut and paste job' is a big no-no.
