May 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please also familiarize yourself with WP:UNIGUIDE. You were, for instance, introducing a list of programmes, which is against that guideline. Muhandes (talk) 11:49, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Muhandes (talk) 18:33, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have not violated any copyright as I am authorized officially to update the wiki page of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar and therefore content is official, however if in any case you think that copyright is violated then cite the example. And Let us update the correct information about IIT Gandhinagar for the reader and don’t revert the edits again and again.Mjoshi2012 (talk) 08:26, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

June 2012[edit]

Hello, Mjoshi2012. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Muhandes (talk) 15:02, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As you said you are "authorized officially to update the wiki page" you are obviously affiliated with, or maybe even employed by, the institute. You therefore have a very clear conflict of interest. I linked above our boilerplate message relevant for such cases, where you may find some useful information. If you wish to make further edits to the article (beside trivial ones of course), it would be appreciated if you make suggestions on the talk page, and another editor will review them for neutrality before applying them.
As for the copyright issue, you were using material which was published in the Internet and was not released to the public domain. The opposite is true. The website http://www.iitgn.ac.in/ includes a very clear copyright notice (not that the law requires one, but it helps when there is doubt). If the institute wishes to release this material to the public, they should replace that copyright message with a CC license. You may wish to consult the message I linked above, especially regarding copyrights, Requesting copyright permission and donating copyrighted materials. --Muhandes (talk) 15:06, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
