Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. It is a good idea to read the most recent entries at the bottom of the Talk page of an existing article before making major changes to it, to see if your proposed change has been discussed before. Before I make a major change to an article, I often make a proposal on the Talk page to see if anyone minds.

Again, welcome! --

Hi. I see that you deleted an External link to some photos of Kurt Gänzl as a young man. Why did you delete this? Perhaps it was a mistake, so I have replaced them pending an explanation. Please put the explanation here on the article's Talk page.. Thanks! All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:22, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your explanation. It's fine to delete that link if you know of a better one, but you did not put in a new link to better photos. Would you please add one? Also, you added the information that Ganzl lived in Berlin, etc. but you did not add a WP:CITE to verify the information. See WP:V for more information. Please add a source. You also added information about Ganzl's forthcoming book about victorian vocalists. We cannot include that information without a published, third-party source. Has the publisher put it in their catalogue yet? If not, we have to wait until it is officially announced. See WP:CRYSTAL. Finally, you added information about his brother, but, again, you did not add a source. Please add an independent, 3rd-party published source about the brother. If he is independently notable, then perhaps he should have his own article. Thanks for the additions to the article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 12:33, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the tips! I have very little idea about how to go about editing a Wikipedia article. I don't claim to be a professional editor (I'm a pianist/composer), I simply did my best at the request of Mr Gänzl. Any new information I provided came directly from him (his parents names etc..) .. If I'm not mistaken there was already something there about the victorian vocalists volumes.. but not to worry.. it's gone now and apparently with good reason. I guess the blog is the best link to give for better photos.. I'll ask him if a specific entry would be suitable. Thanks for your good work on making this a reliable article. You don't need to be a professional to be a great Wikipedia contributor, you just need to add citations to specific sources that verify the information given. Sorry to be a stickler, but the link you added did not explain that Gänzl lives in Berlin. Can you add one to a blog post where he actually states that he lives (or lived) in Berlin? Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:57, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again.. the link I added in fact did provide proof that Gänzl is spending considerable time in Berlin. Potsdamer Platz (which was mentioned in the article as well as the title) is a famous part of the German capital and I would have thought that the fact he was taking a gym membership would suggest that he's at least temporarily living there. Not to worry, I found another article in which he states that he spent 6 months living in Germany (as he does every year.. chasing summer across the globe). I have no issue with you being a stickler - it's great! So long as the common goal is a factual, reliable article and you're not just being.. errortorial! In all seriousness though, you've done a wonderful job and I'm sure Mr Gänzl will be pleased. His brother John Gallas is indeed notable and most certainly deserves his own article here. Thank you for your guidance and help in ever so slightly (hopefully) improving this article. Montmorensy (talk) 08:27, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ref – much better; and thanks for helping to improve the article. Since this is an international encyclopedia that is free and intended for a general readership, we must explain things without assuming much geographical knowledge or other extensive education on the part of our readers, many of whom are young students or people who have not had the same kind of education as you. One could *infer* the point about Gänzl's residence in Germany from the first reference, but it is much clearer from this one. Even better would be a reference from an article about Gänzl in a non-self published magazine, newspaper or book, saying exactly what we say in the article about him sharing his time among the various places. For an example of a well-cited Wikipedia entry (just as an example of what is possible here), see Noël Coward. I hope that this experience has whetted your interest in editing here, and that you will do some research and writing on other articles that interest you. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:00, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
