From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

Questions re Wrestling Pics

Hi Mshake3,

I saw you on FPC last week, and just looking on this page see many compliments for your pics, so thought you may be the best person to ask. (BTW you've got some really good wrestling pics scattered around the project, you must get to a lot of events and I assume get pretty close to the ring.)

Anyway, I went to the Raw event in Melbourne, Australia last Saturday night and took a few happy snaps. Unfortunately I was up in the nosebleed section, and the lighting was all pretty dark, so they were maybe not quite as good as I hoped, but there's some pretty reasonable ones there. I was going to upload some to Wikipedia for articles, and probably nominate one or two at FPC over the next couple of months.

But before I do so I was just wondering about the protocol for putting images in wrestling articles because I don't want to step on too many toes. Let me clarify:

  • Many articles seem very low on images, for example the main Professional Wrestling article and the main WWE article are very text heavy. Is this intentional on the part of the PW Project, is it because any images put in these general articles are argued over incessantly so you just have none, or is it just because no one puts them in there?
  • Images in many articles, say on individual wrestlers, are pretty ordinary (quality, composition, or both) - again is this simply due to a lack of decent images available?
  • Do editors tend to be highly protective of the articles or images; for example if I replaced an infobox image with one that I considered better quality, would it tend to lead to a dispute? Would I be better to just try to place them elsewhere in an article?
  • Are there any issues with WWE licensing?
  • If I nominated on FPC, should I let the Wikiproject know?

I do quite a lot of image work, but just want to feel out what's going on with the wrestling before I spend too much time on it. Thanks for any advice you can give, --jjron 06:50, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks so much for your reply.
So it pretty much sounds like normal image work, the odd overprotective editor perhaps, but most just happy to see the best images in the most appropriate places. I'll drop either you or 'the project' a note when I nominate at FPC.
Yes, I found that issue re trying to capture action shots. Most are suffering bad motion blur, as I had to shoot most at 1/60s. Maybe if I was nearer to the ring and in a better lit place I could do better (the taped shows like Raw and Smackdown appear to be far better lit on TV than the house shows I've attended - is this correct?).
One other thing - do you think I should try putting some images in the 'main' Professional wrestling article for example (there is currently only one picture in it), or just not bother with that and mainly stick to the individual wrestlers themselves?
BTW, I particularly like your infobox image of Ken Kennedy.
Thanks again, --jjron 08:31, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
OK, thanks again. I don't think I'm going to be able to help out much with the 'missing photos' list, I'm probably pretty much limited to what I took at the house show last weekend, so just a selection of the current Raw wrestlers. With a quick look at some of the articles I have some useful and in some cases better images, but I think they all had at least one pic in them already. I don't usually spend a lot of time in the wrestling articles, but I'll keep an eye out for any of yours that may strike me as FP material. --jjron 07:45, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

PwInsider

No, I don't know why www.pwinsider.com was blacklisted, but I remember my first days on wikipedia; I had no idea what Pro Wrestling Illustrated was. I confused references to "PWI" with PWInsider. When I used a link to PWInsider on wikipedia, they told me it was blacklisted because it is a typical unreliable dirtsheet. This annoying site continues to be nothing more than a dirtsheet. Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 04:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

No, not lame. Just the fact of it being on the blacklist, is a result of a community consensus. And we should not be against consensus. Lex94 Talk Contributions Guest Book 14:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

There is nothing wrong with having a belief that goes against a consensus, and anyone may wish to challenge any consensus at any time as far as I know - as long as they do it via discussion and not edit warring or other similar tactics. However, while a consensus still stands, it needs to be followed until a different one can be reached. If a person chooses to attempt to form a new consensus, hopefully they will go about it in a constructive and thought provoking manner, listing valid arguments for their case instead of just making comments like "I think its wrong" or "I don't like it" or "its lame." Cheers, --Naha|(talk) 16:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I never at any stage made any edits to One Night Stand. I ask that your hasty accusation be withdrawn, please. !! Justa Punk !! 00:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
If the above comment was directed at me, please know that my comment was not directed at anyone in particular - just anyone in general who wants to initiate a change in consensus over something. I haven't even read the edit history of the article or policy in question. If it was not directed at me, it just looks like it becuase of how the indents are placed. Sorry for any confusion ...I was just making a general comment. --Naha|(talk) 21:06, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Has Wrestleview been blacklisted? Why should I revert edits on your say so - hence the accusation by the way. If it's a PWInsider mirror it should be but it hasn't. Please control yourself. !! Justa Punk !! 01:02, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Please observe WP:CIVIL when addressing me in future if you would be so kind? I have removed your remark from my talk page. Thank you. !! Justa Punk !! 08:48, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Again, you did not observe WP:CIVIL when addressing me. Please do not do so a third time. Thank you. Your comment has again been removed. !! Justa Punk !! 03:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Please do not remove the WrestleView references from One Night Stand (2005). If I ever wanted to get the article to FA status, I would obviously have to replace WrestleView sourcing with non-dirtsheet reliable sources. Davnel03 17:48, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
This about ONS 2005 has nothing to do with PWInsider. I was following the conversation between you and Justa, and I thought one of you was about to remove all of the WrestleView sourcing. Davnel03 19:56, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Are you an editor at PWInsider or are you just madly inlove with it? Lex T/C Guest Book 17:23, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
