A tale of two Plymouths

Please do not add the Novial interwiki link to Plymouth - the two articles are about different cities. Totnesmartin 18:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Totnesmartin, in this edit the creator of the article added a link to en:Plymouth the bots only propageted this (incorrect) link. I will try to solve this interwiki mess. multichill 20:53, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Done. multichill 21:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Mt Unzen and Pt:Kinugasa article

Your bot repeatedly (about once every two weeks) inserts an interwiki link from the Mount Unzen article to a totally unrelated article on the Portuguese Wikipedia. Could you please instruct it to stop doing this? Thanks for your attention to this matter, Jim_Lockhart 23:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Bot's dont make mistakes, humans do. The creator of the article included the incorrect interwiki links. The different bots merely propageted the mistake. I removed all interwiki's from and to this article, so it shouldnt return unless a human decides to add the incorrect link again. multichill 23:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I hadn't noticed the incorrect links in the Portuguese article, but if this sort of thing happens again, I will. Best regards, Jim_Lockhart 06:49, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

If you notice incorrect interwiki links, you can post them here. Fixing with a bot is much faster than by hand. multichill 08:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki's

JdH 09:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Interwiki conflicts

Fixed the conflict. Now we have three sets:

multichill 14:00, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

thanks :-) I have added ru:Штатгальтер to Stadtholder. JdH 15:37, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
It turns out that there is yet another unresolved interwiki conflict: It turns out that Steward (office) links to all of the above, and provides a more general discussion of the concept of Stadtholder, quite similar to what de:Statthalter does.
In the mean time I resurrected List of stadtholders for the Low Countries provinces, a move I already regret in view of the fact that we have now 3 closely related articles: Statthalter Stadtholder, and Steward (office). Perhaps those 3 should be merged?, see: Talk:Stadtholder for a discussion JdH 19:14, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Controversial interwiki links

Hi, I've blocked your bot for a couple of hours. It repeatedly made this highly contentious edit ([1]), reinstating an interwiki link that local editors don't want. Bots should never make controversial edits against the wishes of human editors. Please see the history of this page, especially this warning [2] and this report on meta [3]. Please do something to stop your bot from adding this link; I believe you can do so by running it with the parameter "-neverlink ru-sib". What we have here otherwise is a bot army revert-warring against the editors of the page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 04:23, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Dude, blocking my bot wont fix your problem, it only annoys me. I'm not going to block a entire language because someone doenst like that particulair wikipedia. All the other articles in this interwiki mesh still link to ru-sib so the next bot will pick this up and but the link back. You could ahve just stated your problem on Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard, but no, you had to start blocking. multichill 16:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
The problem is that it is not a language, it was and is still being made up by two or three editors. The way they got it approved by by Wikimedia is a story on its own (mass sockpuppetry, and vandalism where an anonymous IP from the Philippines made tens of votes against disappear). And the special problem with this article is that the terms they use for Ugric and Finnish people are well known racist insults in Russian. Because of the False Flag involved, a lot of people specifically object to this wikilink. Would you be glad to link to the Westvlams version of the article on Israel if it called the inhabitants by an insulting name such as Kankerjood'n? --Pan Gerwazy 17:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
So, you have a problem with an article on ru-sib wikipedia? Go fix it over there, dont take you problems over here. The article hasnt been toched by a human since 12 February 2007. As long ru-sib is an wikimedia project i will link to it. If the community decides to discontinue the ru-sib wikipedia the bot will be altered to remove all the links to the project. multichill 19:18, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, sorry, to tell you the truth, I was aware blocking wasn't a very good solution - but how do I get anybody's attention here? I must admit I wasn't aware of the existence of the bot owner's noticeboard. I previously posted to meta:Talk:Interwiki.py, and then to the pywikipedia mailing list, and got nothing of a response from either. The userpages of your bot and the other similar ones don't do a particularly good job either at pointing one to a forum where such centralised issues could be raised. There are really two issues here: first, independently of this specific article, there can be any number of legitimate reasons why local editors might conclude a particular link isn't appropriate, and the bots are currently poorly designed to handle such a situation. I made a simple suggestion to the developers: change the bot so that whenever it finds a certain link commented out on a page it should leave it alone. Simple rationale, bots should defer to humans, always. If a human has seen the link but intentionally deactivated it, then the bot has no business to overrule that. Unfortunately they don't seem to be interested in following up on this very simple and reasonable request. Second issue, specific to the ru-sib question: you are of course welcome to think that nobody should be entitled to boycott a whole other wikipedia just because they politically don't like it. Fine. But you're not welcome to push that view by mechanical revert warring, especially not by employing bots to do the revert warring. So, my request is: either accept that you are running a poorly designed bot, and help me raise awareness so that people can fix it; or endorse what your bot is doing and accept the responsibility that what you're doing together with other bot owners on that page is waging an eternal revert-war. Thanks, Fut.Perf. 19:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Making interwiki links only one way

Hi Multichill, your bot has been adding in de: and fr: links to List of Harry Potter films cast members a number of times over the last few weeks. This is because Angelica Mandy has her own article on de and fr, but is part of this list on en. Is it possible that the de and fr articles can retain the interwiki links into the List of films cast members, but this list does not contain outgoing links to the de and fr articles about her? --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 15:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Fbv65edel, looks like Angelica Mandy has her own article on this wikipedia too. I will fix the interwiki mess. multichill 18:53, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Done looks ok, right? multichill 18:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Looks great for now, only thing is that a whole bunch of people are intent on creating this article about her when she does not really meet WP:BLP standards. I'm prodding the article on en and if that fails will send it to AfD, but I can't do that on de and fr, and I can't speak those languages, so there's no way to communicate with those editors asking them to create a list of cast members (it's really just a copy and paste job from en, changing the two paragraphs in the opening and adjusting all names to match the French translations of the books). --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 01:07, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Centerville

I undid this edit and put that nl interwiki link on Centerville, Gallia County, Ohio instead. -- JHunterJ 23:32, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I still have to check this list (duplicate names in the same state). multichill 22:25, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, this is the first time I've had to deal with a bot so sorry if this is the wrong way to go about it. Your bot keeps adding Czech, Polish and Russian links from pages called 'dom modlitwy' (or variations - they're all basically the same word in Slavonic languages) to the PB page. The C, P and R pages all refer to a 'gospel hall' - a building - not to the PB religious movement. How would you recommend solving this problem? Thanks. Malick78 08:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Malick78, I found the source of the problem, Gospel Hall redirects to Plymouth Brethren. I removed all incorrect links. multichill 12:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Leaving interwiki on copyvio pages

Please don't put interwiki on a page which has a {{copyvio}} tag. Such pages have no useful content, and will probably be deleted soon. Od Mishehu 21:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry at the moment this is not possible with the pywikipedia framework. multichill 21:44, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if the bot could not add fr:Nick Shim as an iw link for this List. Though the French page should indeed have this English List as its iw, Nick Shim is only one part of the list, and thus his French article is not an alternate of this list. Thanks, Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 12:19, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

fr:Nick Shim used to link to en:Nick Shim, this is a redirect to List of Harry Potter films cast members and there you have a nice little interwiki mess. I have removed the links. I expect more of the same problem because a lot of articles now redirect to this list . If you see strange links, just leave me a message and i'll remove it (simply reverting the bot wont help). --multichill 18:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Airbridge (logistics)

I reverted this edit to Airbridge (logistics) it is not an article about the Berlin Airlift ---- Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 22:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks like someone inserted a wrong interwiki link. I will look into it and clean it up. Just reverting this one edit wont help unfortunatly, i will have to remove all the wrong links in all languages, but furtunatly by bot is really good at that. multichill (talk) 02:12, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Yet again I reverted this edit to Airbridge (logistics) and it is not an article about the Berlin Airlift please get the bot to stop ding it. BTW I do not understand what your last comment "looks like someone inserted a wrong interwiki link" what does that mean? -- Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 00:16, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry. I kinda forgot to clean up the mess (dont check this talk page to often, i happen to be at the en wikipedia atm). About my comment: My bot only adds missing links, people have to add a link to a set. Say for example article A on the en wikipedia links to A on the nl and the de wikipedia. But A at nl and A at de dont link to eachother, my bot will add the links. When someone adds a link to article B on the es wikipedia to the A article on the en wikipedia my bot will propagate this incorrect link to the other articles. To sum things up. Bots dont add wrong links, people do, bots only propagate wrong links. multichill (talk) 00:26, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Done removed all incorrect links and found the source of the problem; At the nl wikipedia nl:Luchtbrug (airbridge) is a redirect to nl:Berlijnse Luchtbrug (Berlin Airlift). multichill (talk) 00:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

BotMultichill

Hi, is it possible to modify your bot so that it doesn't add interwikis to categories that have the Template:Category redirect?--Supparluca 19:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

From Urdu wikipedia

Hi Multichill, I wonder if I can use some kind of bot to add the interwiki links of the articles of Urdu wikipedia. Could you please guide me on this matter if you can. Thanks. Samarqandi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.88.55.50 (talk) 01:09, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Samarqandi, you can use pywikipedia to add interwiki links. See the manual at meta. I just started my bot to do a run of the Urdu wikipedia. A interwiki bot only propagates links, it cant find new ones. You should add interwiki's to this list of articles. One interwiki link per article is enough. multichill (talk) 10:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
