Default sort[edit]

Hi NBA Fan44 – Thanks for creating new articles on former NBA players. I have one favor to ask when you're making new biographical articles: Can you please add "{{DEFAULTSORT:Lastname, Firstname}}" right above where the categories go (like this)? That way, the people will show up in their respective categories alphabetically by last name. Al Eberhard, for instance, was found under "A" for Al until I added his default sort. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 17:00, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can do that. Thanks for letting me know about how I can make my articles better. NBA Fan44 (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. If you have any questions you can drop me a line, or asking over at WT:NBA is always helpful. Jrcla2 (talk) 17:13, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello NBA Fan44, I just wanted to let you know that I tood a look at your recently created article Isaiah Wilson--It would be great if you could also upload a picture for the related article 1990 NBA Playoffs. Amy Z (talk) 14:17, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering if you are willing to help a current initiative[edit]

Hi NBA Fan44 - I have noticed that you are on something of a roll creating articles for a lot of "forgotten" NBA players. Thanks for doing this - it is really appreciated as articles for these guys are overdue! Not sure if you have a method for the order you are doing them, but if not there is a current effort underway at WikiProject College Basketball to create articles for all NCAA Conference Players of the Year. Many of these guys also played in the NBA and we'd love your help creating the articles if you are willing. Some examples: Paul Graham (basketball) (Mid-American POY), Perry Moss (basketball) (America East), Tony Price (basketball) (Ivy League), Rick Wilson (basketball) (Metro Conference), Jeff Halliburton (Missouri Valley Conference), Willie White (basketball) (Southern Conf.), and John Dickson (basketball) (Southland). There are probably others. If you are open to it, creating these will help both the NBA and College Basketball projects. If you decide to help, please remember to add the appropriate Conference player of the Year template (found here). Thanks for considering it and keep up the good work! Rikster2 (talk) 12:24, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, thanks for the suggestions on articles I could create. I don't have a lot of time to create articles during the week, so I'll probably only be able to create these articles on the weekend. NBA Fan44 (talk) 17:26, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of basketball players[edit]

Answering your question, the College sports notability guidelines (found here) say:
College athletes and coaches are notable if they have been the subject of non-trivial media coverage beyond merely a repeating of their statistics, mentions in game summaries, or other WP:ROUTINE coverage. Examples would include head coaches, well-known assistant coaches, or players who:
1. Have won a national award (such as those listed in Template:College Football Awards or the equivalent in another sport), or established a major Division I (NCAA) record.
2. Were inducted into the hall of fame in their sport (for example, the College Football Hall of Fame).
3. Gained national media attention as an individual, not just as a player for a notable team.
I read #1 to include Conference POYs because they are included on Template:College Basketball Awards, and were on it before that notability guideline was added. Most CPOYs are also at least honorable mention All-Americans, and All-Americans are also included on the template. I also think that CPOYs generally get enough media attention to meet #3. My two cents. Rikster2 (talk) 23:25, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Keith Wright (basketball), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Forward (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Edits on Keith Wright[edit]

You recently removed my edits concerning the legacy of Keith Wright. I disagree with your claim that Wright does not need a legacy section. Wright helped bring Harvard into the national spotlight, is the school's all-time leading shotblocker, and captained one of, if not the, most successfull teams in Harvard basketball history. Is there a way that we can compromise and include these facts, without a legacy section? Thanks. Rupert'sscribe (talk) 15:15, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. i'll try to add the information into different parts of the article. Rupert'sscribe (talk) 14:59, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All-Pac-12[edit]

Thanks for creating articles for recent All-Pac-12 players Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten. They dont seem to meet WP:NSPORTS, having not played in a notable pro league (yet) to meet WP:NBASKETBALL, nor won a major college award to meet WP:NCOLLATH. I dont think All-Pac-12 is presumed to make a player notable. However, they might meet WP:GNG, but I can't tell based on the sources in the article. I dont plan to look any further into these players for now, but just a heads-up on ensuring notability for articles created and avoiding possible frustration later. Keep up the work on basketball articles!—Bagumba (talk) 07:36, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten may not meet notability standards yet, but they have both declared for the NBA draft and will most likely be selected in the NBA draft, which would make them notable enough, if they aren't already. -NBA Fan44 (talk) 23:04, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declaring for draft is not a criteria in NSPORTS. As I noted earlier, they probably meet GNG with enough non-trivial coverage having been All-Pac-12 and playing in a major conference. Since the draft is upcoming, most people would probably just let the article be and see what happens after the draft. This was more just a heads up in case it gets nominated for deletion. Just didnt want you to get discourage on the chance the articles get scrutinized. You can either wait until it is nominated (it may never), wait until they play in the NBA, or add references from different sources in the meantime.—Bagumba (talk) 01:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Terrence Ross for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Terrence Ross is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Terrence Ross until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Spartaz Humbug! 09:46, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bradley Beal[edit]

Both ESPN and Rivals list him at 6'4". Why are we listing him at 6'3"? ~ Richmond96 tc 14:56, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would still go with his height as 6'3" for now, because his biography on the Florida website lists him as 6'3" and that is more likely to be accurate than recruiting profiles. NBA Fan44 (talk) 15:29, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Links[edit]

Hi. It happens that there is more than one person named Aaron Brooks who has an article in this encyclopedia. If you are going to add more links to 2009–10 Houston Rockets season, please be sure you link to Aaron Brooks (basketball) and not to the disambiguation page. Thanks. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:25, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interested in doing these articles?[edit]

Hello - I wanted to throw a few more potential historical NBA player articles your way to see if you are interested. These ones redlink various All-American team articles: Dennis DuVal, Wil Robinson, Dave Scholz, Dick Nemelka, Bud Koper, Horace Walker (basketball), Ron Johnson (basketball). No big deal if you want to do others, but these would fill in some holes. Thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 00:33, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, one other - Denny Holman is on the newly-ceated Template:Southwest Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year navbox. Thanks for all your work on creating these NBA articles. Rikster2 (talk) 18:16, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Couple more if you are up for it: Larry Friend, John Pilch, John Horan (basketball), Don Ray (basketball), Frank Kudelka (basketball). You are kicking it, man! Rikster2 (talk) 01:43, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games[edit]

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
