Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 15:45, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Take this to El C[edit]

You haven't said one thing to El C directly throughout this. You're accusing those who are trying to help you of cabalism. It's getting a little frustrating. Wikipedia works through consensus. Consensus requires discussion. You haven't contacted the user you are in a dispute with. Leebo T/C 02:15, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, and thanks[edit]

I just read the extensive discussion on the help page about the Thai aircraft. It appears to me that you want to make a contribution to Wikipedia that is unique and valuable. It also appears that you have run afoul of an unfortunate combination of circumstances. I am writing this personal note to request that you please bear with us until we can resolve the problem. Please consider rhe following:

  • You are a valuable contributor with valuable information.
  • there are currently more than two million articles on Wikpedia
  • there are less than 2,000 editors who have benn granted "administrator" privledges. They are unpaid volunteers. Their qualifications vary dramatically. The youngest administrator is is not yet 13 years old.
  • The administrators must deal with a great deal of spam. the sometimes make snap decision to delete spam.
  • sometimes, we make mistakes. Wikkpedia is a volunteer effort: we have almost one million edotors, and you are one of them.
  • Please assume good faith. your problems are the result of good-faith effort of other unpaid volunteers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arch dude (talkcontribs) 02:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Resolution[edit]

I recommend you add the factual information to the article, without any external links sections. El_C may have made a mistake in removing your information without an edit summary, but belaboring that point does not ultimately improve the encyclopedia. There is nothing to be gained from forcing someone to say they made a mistake. On the other hand, if you contribute your material the encyclopedia will be improved. As you become more familiar with Wikipedia, you may come to sympathize with El_C's situation, as he performs a stressful task (recent changes patrol) mostly without thanks as a volunteer. He made a mistake in this situation, but that doesn't make him a poor Wikipedian. Leebo T/C 17:22, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again,, thanks, and a plea for perspective[edit]

Thanks again for your efforts.

I will not have time to actually review the details until the weekend, so I am making a huge number of assumptions. Sorry. If you have resolved the problem, please ignore this message.

We are trying to build an encyclopedia, and we appreciate your desire to help. However, an encyclopedia is a strange construct. On the one hand we explicitly must not incorporate original research. Please see WP:OR. Even if your are a researcher with an Nobel prize, we cannot accept a factual edit from you unless it is cited in a secondary reference. Please see WP:V. I fouhd this to be fairly hard to accept when I started editing, but it makes sense when you step back and think about it.

At the other extreme, we cannot accpet work that is copyrighted by others. This is a legal restriction. So you can only add information is 1) not your original work, but 2) is not copyrighted. At first, this is extraordinarily restrictive. But, you are an expert on a large class of Thai-related articles. This means that you should be able to read (and cite) Thai-related web sites, and contribute material in you own words that conveys this information.

Please stay with us until we can resolve this. Please assume good faith. I fervently hope that we can quickly find a way to get your knowledge into Wikipedia. Read our policies and try to understand why we have all of these silly rules. Where possible, take your own pictures and contribute them to the commons under clearly-stated copyrightr disclaimers. Cite verifiable sources even when you know facts because of your expertise.

In any event, please introduce yourself to our community by creating your User:NYerkes user page. Just click on the link and describe yourself and your intent, as you did on my talk page. That way, other editors may be able to help you achieve your goals. -Arch dude 02:29, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Projects[edit]

Given your stated interest in aviation and given your obvious knowledge of the subject would you think about joining the WP:MILHIST project, specifically the Aviation task force. You could find like-minded editors on these pages and pooled knowledge about how to edit articles. I think it is great that you have reopened dialogue with El_C. Happy editing. regards Woodym555 12:05, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your message on my talk page.[edit]

Hey, Thanks for leaving me a message. I rarely get any messages, other than rude additions to my pages, about any of my vandalism notices. I think I can safely presume this was you? If so, the IP has not been active for about 3 weeks. Hopefully they wont be back again any time soon. Just to let you know, I am not an administrator so I cant actually block people, the best I can do is report users or IPs to the admins to block. If there is anything else I can help you with, feel free to contact me. Tiddly-Tom 10:16, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
