Dubai

Nabil, I see you are new to Wikipedia. Having been around here for almost 5 years now, I'll be glad to assist you with any questions on how to contribute. On the Dubai page, I see you have re-inserted some of the content that I had removed. I removed them for three reasons: a) Main-space articles need to be written per Wikipedia's WP:SUMMARY policies, which these didn't comply with b) Some of the edits were original research and had a point of view, which should be the case for Wikipedia articles, c) Wikipedia, unlike Wikitravel is an encyclopedia, and not a travel brochure, so topics such as "Skyline" are not relevent to the scope. You can visit Wikipedia's Featured articles page (scroll down to "Geography and places") to get an idea of the sctruture of some excellent Wikipedia articles on cities and countries.

I would advise you to read through some of the links above, as they will help you contribute more effectively on Wikipedia. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me as well. I will be removing the recently added content, because of the reasons mentioned above. If you have more specific questions about content, we can alternatively move the discussion to Talk:Dubai. Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia. AreJay (talk) 17:38, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Hiya. On your User page, you mention ACCA. Is that ACCA? Trafford09 (talk) 15:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

OK - the reason I ask is because they actually go to different articles, as you'll see if you go into (or indeed hover the mouse over) the two links on my first message. Regards, Trafford09 (talk) 17:04, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

can any body tell me how i an upload a video clip in article ???

Colossal (talk) 19:35, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

It needs to be in ogg format; apart from that, it works exactly the same as a picture. Upload it to commons, and then to display it in an article, just use code such as [[File:Apollo 11. Television clip of Buzz descending the ladder and stepping onto the moon, 1094228.ogv|thumb]] - as shown here.

For much more info, see Wikipedia:Creation and usage of media files.

Note I asked before - please could you fix up your signature, so that it matches your user name. For help with that, see Wikipedia:How to fix your signature

One of your photos

Hello Nabil rais2008!

I'm from German Wikipedia and it's about one of your photos:

Mohammad_nabil_rais_-_HHHR_Tower.jpg

Could you transer it to commons, so that we can use it in the German Wikipedia?

Thanks in advance, -- Cgoe, 26.05.2009, 15:23; if you have any question, feel free to ask here —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cgoe (talkcontribs) 13:23, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

You can upload files on commons here! Cgoe (talk) 14:26, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I've one more question: When did you take this photo? Cause I need this info for describition. Cgoe (talk) 16:35, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

List of buildings taller than 400 metres

After my major edit, every part of which I provided a significant reason for changing in the edit summary, you went and reverted it without an edit summary! Can you please give reasons for reverting perfectly good edits so that I do not have to go and manually fix it all up again? --timsdad (talk) 07:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Help on Arabian Canal

{{helpme}}

I am creating an article Arabain Canal, but there is problem that when i type Arabian canal on search bar then it opens Dubai waterfront article, how can i solve this problem in order to make the article of Arabian canal ???

Colossal (talk) 16:44, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Underneath the title there should be a line that reads "(Redirected from Arabian Canal)". You can click on that to go to the redirect page and edit it. If the two subjects are related, you may just want to edit the Dubai waterfront article instead. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:48, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

(edit conflict; an alternative answer follows;  Chzz  ►  16:50, 13 June 2009 (UTC))

The page called "Arabian Canal" contains a single line which redirects people to the article on the Dubai waterfront. When you search for it, and reach the Dubai waterfront article, you will notice at the top that it says, "Redirected from Arabian Canal" - and if you click on Arabian Canal there, you will be taken to the redirect page itself. You can then edit that page, remove the redirect line, and create the article.
I will provide a direct link to the page here, for your convenience - click this.
For more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

List of tallest hotels in the world

  • I understood why it was ranked the way it was before i changed it, but i just thought that that would be confusing. Also, when you reverted it, you removed Encore Las Vegas, which i put on there because it belonged, as it was taller than Wynn Las Vegas. Additionally, the hotel links need to be fixed, because they're either linked wrong or they link to a different article. Ryanbstevens (talk) 15:56, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Dubai technopark, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Help

{{helpme}}

I want my article List of tallest residential buildings in the world to be a featured article, and i have followed the method, how to nominate the article for featured article as it is mentioned in the article of Featured articles.In the talk page of my article there is menioned that:

This article is undergoing a featured article review to ensure that it meets the standards of a featured article. Please add a comment to assist the process and/or be bold and improve the article directly. If the article has been moved from its initial review period to the Featured Article Removal Candidate (FARC) section, you may support or contest its removal. When the review is complete, a bot will update the article talk page.

so how can i know that the review of the featured article, has been completed ??? and if my article is eligible for the featured one ?

Nabil rais2008 (talk) 09:10, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Firstly, this article would be a featured list, not a featured article. You should have nominated it there- see the nomination procedure at this page. You nominated the article for a featured article review- that is to improve articles that are already featured articles. If you wanted an article promoted to a featured article, you should nominate it at featured article candidates. Once you have nominated the article at one of these processes, keep an eye on the page you create explaining why you think it is ready, as other people will post comments there, offering reccomendations of what needs to be improved. The discussion there will go on as long as it needs to, while others make comments and you make improvements to the article, before it is closed by one of the featured article directors or featured list directors. Finally, a quick tip- this will not be successful at FLC at the moment, as it is not very well referenced. All articles have to be well referenced to reliable sources. J Milburn (talk) 10:40, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I'd just like to point out that this article is not your article, refer to Wikipedia:Ownership of articles.
Also, List of tallest buildings in the world, clearly the most important and best written tallest buildings article on Wikipedia at the moment, is not even a featured list. By all means, go ahead and nominate this list for featured status. However, it will need a lot of work before anybody will even consider it. --timsdad (talk) 21:10, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I have noticed that very many "list of tallest" articles are featured articles. Daniel Christensen (talk) 02:24, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Very many? There are some, such as the list of tallest buildings in Dubai and the list of tallest buildings in the United States... And please note that these are featured lists not featured articles, there is a difference. It is much easier to gain featured list status. --timsdad (talk) 02:56, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Can i write this article in this format,[[1]] ???

actually i wasnt to know thent in this article i have written the features of Dubai strategic plan in points..

Can i create in this format ?

Nabil rais2008 (talk) 12:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but that would not be a suitable article for several reasons.
It does not use reliable sources that are independent of the subject, and therefore it does not show notability. It includes a lot of information that reads like an advertisement, and is therefore not a neutral point of view. Please review this guide for an explanation of suitable articles for Wikipedia.  Chzz  ►  15:26, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
