Yes, this was a copyright violation. The fact that the text is on the journal's homepage doesn't give it any special status: it is still copyrighted and we can't use it. Brief quotations from copyrighted sources are allowed in some circumstances, but copying paragraphs of text without even labeling it as a quotation is not one of them. Please do not do this again.
