Welcome from the Wikichemists[edit]

Hi Nathaniel,

Thanks for your contributions to the chemistry articles, you made a lot of useful edits. I was very pleased to see that you contributed quite a bit to polymer articles, is this your area of expertise? If so, can I encourage you to consider joining Wikipedia:WikiProject_Polymers? You sign up as a participant. Wikiprojects are where like minded people coordinate their activities, with the intention of producing a range of quality articles in their field of expertise. This Wikiproject is fairly new, but I think it has now reached a "critical mass" where it will really take off soon. Regarding chemistry pages in general, on my user page I have a list of chemistry pages you may find helpful. We're a friendly bunch and we work well together, so don't be afraid to ask for help. Welcome! Walkerma 02:37, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Walkerma,
Sure I'll be glad to join. I'm right now in the midst of a project on piezoelectric polymers, in particular P(VDF-TrFE). At the same time, I'm taking a course on polymer chemistry, so sometimes when I learn something new, I'll just add a small contribution. I've put this up at the top of my talk page since I expect most of my contributions in this area. One of my other areas of expertise is optical engineering & barcode scanners for which I worked as an engineer at Olympus for 2 years. However, my contributions in that area are minimal, as I have restricted myself to information that is already in the public domain. But sure, it would be great to get the chemistry pages to take off soon. Nathaniel 03:25, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Polymer project[edit]

Yay! Another WikiChemist added to the polymer project. We're really just a small group of Wikipedians interested in polymer information, so feel free to contribute whatever you think is useful. See you around the Wiki! --HappyCamper 03:45, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV links[edit]

Hi Nathaniel- I notice that you've been removing links to sites critical of various evangelical leaders and such, in the name of NPOV. Wikipedia's NPOV policy restricts the content of the page, not of the linked pages. A good NPOV article should link to external pages both supporting and critical of the subject.

By removing links to criticism, you are causing the Wikipedia article to have an implicit POV (in this case, a pro-evangelical or pro-whoever one).

It is also not cool to remove content from talk pages, as you did with Talk:Rick Joyner. I assume that you did this because you believe the cult accusations are not worth discussing? You can voice your opinion on the subject- but please don't try to erase other peoples opinions, or prevent the discussion from happening. It won't work anyways, since the page history remembers all. If you feel that the discussion notes are obsolete, then it is customary to leave them there anyways. Staecker 13:28, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I removed the content from the talk page as the answer was put up on the Rick Joyner page--someone had confused the organization, Every Nation, with Rick Joyner, but Rick Joyner has no such organization. Every Nation is under Rice Broocks [1]... I was not trying to remove a person's opinion. Nathaniel 09:06, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK I understand- sorry to get jumpy. Still, it's proper to write a note of response on the talk page closing the discussion, rather than deleting the comment. --Staecker 12:51, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding criticism of various evangelical leaders, I have personally listened to a number of their messages, and I do not see such evidence of the criticisms (such as in the "Word of Faith" theology article). Even books expressing their concerns in these areas are not very commonly seen on the bookshelves, even in Christian bookstores... There are various possible reasons why this could be so. People showing such beliefs in the past may have toned down, or avoided the extreme interpretations of such; people may have misinterpreted or even distorted these teachings and applied them in a different way from that which the leader originally intended. Some things that are said could also be interpreted in terms of the extreme interpretations of the past, but these extreme interpretations are no longer followed today. I do not see it now in their current or latest writings/audio teachings. I have not seen anything in these teachings that would cause any significant alarm in mainstream evangelical Christianity, or that have caused damage in the churches in the country I live in. If you do feel otherwise, do elaborate more on what you mean. For the time being, I will leave the articles as you have edited them. Nathaniel 11:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of your or my own personal opinion, the fact remains that these folks have produced a bit of controversy, and that there are voices critical of their theology. If these folks have changed their ways and their message, then that can be mentioned in the article, but we'd need a lot more than your personal opinion after hearing them speak. That, by itself would constitute Wikipedia:Original research, which is not allowed. Even so, the link critical of Marilyn Hickey is a long list of quotations from 2004, which is pretty recent.
If you personally believe that Word of faith is compatible with mainstream evangelicalism, this is irrelevant. Our job is not to debate whether or not the controversy has merit- our job is to record the controversy as it exists. --Staecker 12:51, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it's not easy to decide how compatible it is with mainstream evangelicalism, because different people interpret these teachings in different ways, and some to extremes that may not always be adhered to by the majority. Hence there will always be people who find these incompatible, and some controversy would be expected. But one question, I noticed you removed some of the books which I've added to one of the articles. I hope you can explain why you have done so. Nathaniel 13:53, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Nathaniel- I didn't mean to remove any books. I've looked back through my edits history and don't see anything like that. Can you be more specific? Maybe I did it accidentaly- Staecker 15:16, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh- I see it now! Sorry, that was a mistake. I reverted 2 edits instead of 1. I'll put them back momentarily. Staecker 15:18, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki for Engineering[edit]

Engineering Wiki is a wiki entirely dedicated to collecting information about Engineering. The Engineering Wiki is in early development stages at the moment. We invite you to help devlope this wiki.

Hi, thanks for the info, haven't heard of this website before. Is this supposed to complement Wikipedia, or to mirror the Wikipedia articles but add an engineering slant? I went to the web site; it seems that my IP address is blocked from creating an account. Nathaniel 01:18, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I saw your additions to this article. Currently, I am compiling some information for this article and I like to clarify the fact that most people usually mistake Boon Lay with that of Jurong West Central. Actually, Boon Lay refers to that of Boon Lay Place, and before the existence of Boon Lay MRT Station and Interchange, most people would know it as that. I hope I can update this page soon to clear up this misconception. --fauzi 09:00, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, good of you to clarify on this. By the way, thanks for your edits--the Boon Lay page is much better now. --Nathaniel 13:27, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No problem.. Still a lot to be done though.. :-) --fauzi 14:08, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Transwiki photos[edit]

Hi Nathaniel, I would like to transwiki your photos to Wikimedia Commons, as it can be used on all Wikimedia projects, and other language Wikipedias. Also, when you want to upload photos in future, upload them to Commons. See this personal project here. I hope you wouldn't mind it. Thanks. --Terence Ong (恭喜发财) 08:19, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why do we have so few engineers as Wikipedians?[edit]

I am trying to understand why there are so few Wikipedians who are graduate engineers. Once I get a grasp on that, perhaps I may be able to formulate some ideas on how to attract more experienced engineers to become Wikipedians. It would be very helpful if you would respond to these a few questions:

  • Are you a university graduate engineer?
  • Please indicate in which of these engineering disciplines you obtained your degree:
    1. Aeronautical or aerospace engineering
    2. Bioengineer or biological engineering
    3. Chemical engineering
    4. Civil engineering
    5. Electrical engineering
    6. Environmental engineering
    7. Mechanical engineering
    8. Petroleum engineering
    9. Other
  • In what year did you obtain your degree?
  • What attracted you to participate in Wikipedia?

Please respond on my User talk:mbeychok page. Or you may respond to me via Wikipedia's email which I have enabled on my User:mbeychok page.

If you would rather not respond at all, that's fine also. Regards, - mbeychok 04:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

done! --Nathaniel 01:43, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You recently created the page Common Flying Dragon but listed its genus as "Draco sumatranus". Google results for that genus returns results of the name "Common Gliding Lizard" so I renamed it accordingly. I'm sorry if I'm wrong and would appreciate if you contact me on my talk page to see what going with this article. Thank you. - Tutmosis 14:36, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also there is a specie that called Common Flying Dragon but its genus name is "Draco volans" and also already has an article Flying dragon. - Tutmosis 14:42, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the HSBC brochure said Common Flying Dragon, so perhaps there is more than one name for this lizard. --Nathaniel 03:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hytrel copyvio[edit]

Hi. I marked Hytrel, which you created some time ago, as a copyright violation. It's pretty clearly copied from the Dupont website. You edited the text a bit to make it more Wikipedia-compliant, but the result is still clearly a derivative work of the original.--Srleffler 23:13, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I thought I had edited enough of it to keep it clear of the copyright issues. Actually, the web link at the bottom (plasticballs.com) might have been where this came from, but it also seems to be a copy of the Dupont text. How about I just change the article to read 'Hytrel is a thermoplastic elastomer manufactured by Dupont' and provide the link to the Dupont website? At least that's better totally deleting the article.--Nathaniel 09:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on TDGL, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to add more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please don't be offended if this article is ready to be expanded. Thanks. MKoltnow 08:21, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Melles Griot[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Melles Griot, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. B. Wolterding 14:40, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hello Nathaniel, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 14:24, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Alexandra Road Singapore.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Notice

The article Double group (magnetochemistry) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Previously listed for AfD. Previous problems have not been resolved in any way. There has been no attempt to give a coherent definition of "double group". The draft creator has disallowed any references from physics or mathematics, including any mention of Hans Bethe, who invented the term. Reads like a blog page.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:01, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aspial Corporation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Nomination of Aspial Corporation for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Aspial Corporation is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aspial Corporation until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.
