Speedy deletion nomination of Raja Malaya Simha[edit]

Hello Naveen2002,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Raja Malaya Simha for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 11:45, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Raja Malaya Simha[edit]

The article Raja Malaya Simha has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There is no any information as well as references in the article

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Thunaivan. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Mahathir being classified as an ethnic Malayali[edit]

There is a big difference of a person having a "descent" from an ethnic group (partial or otherwise) and being an active member of that ethnic group. There is no evidence official or cultural

1. Mahathir identifying himself as a Malayali 2. Mahathir being a member of the Malayali community or any of its associations in Malaysia 3. Mahathir speaking the Malayalam language 4. Mahathir practicing Kerala-Malabari Muslim culture.

If you want to mention about his grandfather coming from Kerala, you can do so. However, again, you have to prove his grandfather's roots were in Kerala for generation, and not an emigrant from Karanataka or Sri Lanka or Arabs or Sindh or wherever into Kerala. Kerala has population of migrants that came in and adopted some of its culture in history. Jews are an example. Arab traders are an example.

So one has to be careful "tying" a person to an ethnicity simply because one grandparent or one ancestor may have come from the region. To be identified fully as part of that ethnicity, he must

1. Have official recognition 2. Have community recognition 3. Speak its language 4. Identify personally with its culture, people and language and customs

So you must provide evidence or some video/documentation from Mahathir's own mouth that he is a Malayali.

What difference does it make by your logic, if ancestry is taken, then of Gypsies? Hundreds of years or 2 generations? What difference? There is no scientific basis or logic to your arguments. The one who makes claims has to provide the proof and explain the reasoning in a sound manner in a court of law. Instead of unilaterally imposing ethnic identities on people, it is important to get factual evidence of the person's active involvement with that language group and people on a daily basis, from that person itself. Please provide proof. Valid clear proof. Thank you.

Mahathir Mohammed being classified as ethnic Malayalee[edit]

Please do read the first passage in the Malaysian Malayali article stating "Malaysian Malayalees, also known as Malayalee Malaysians, are people of full or partial Malayali descent who were born in or immigrated to Malaysia from the Malayalam speaking regions". Mahathir Mohamad has partial Malayali descent thus he can be addressed as a Malayali too. I have not stated in any part that he is not a Malay. Please understand the concept of "partial descent". He is a person with PARTIAL MALAYALI DESCENT which makes it right to display his name on the "Notable People" list. There's no need for a person to be known as a Malayali only if he/she speaks the language and practice the culture. Just because a man speaks English, adapts the culture and lifestyle of the Westerners, he cannot become an English man. If an Indian speaks chinese and practices the Chinese culture, does he/she has the rights to call themselves Chinese, without having any Chinese ancestors? Again, I didn't deny he's a Malay. His identity card states his a Malay. By the way, this is involving Malaysia, interpretation of ethnicity in other countries does not imply here. Again, please do understand that Mahathir Mohamad has partial Malayali descent. As his paternal grandfather migrated to Malaya from Kerala, it is right to mention his name under the "Notable People" list. Thank you. Naveen2002 (talk) 11:45, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, there is a big difference.

1. A Malayalee man emigrating to another country and adopting citizenship is different from a distant descendant of his, who is considerably of another ethnicity by blood. That person MAY have some ancestry from Kerala, but is HE AN ETHNIC MALAYALEE? Not in anyway.

2. There are Namboodiri Brahmins who migrated from North India to Kerala. Are they still called North Indians or Malayalees? They are Malayalees now.

3. What exactly is a Malayali? That you have not defined.

4. Mahathir even by appearance does not look like a South Asian at all. His mother was not. His maternal grandfather and grandmother was not. His father's mother was not.

5. If you want to mention Iskandar kutty as being an immigrant from Kerala, then by all means you can mention it. But Mahathir is not a Malayalam speaking Malayalee from. If yes, show the evidence he is.

There is no DNA called Malayali. Malayalees are a mixture of Dravidians, Aryans, Semitics, Negrito mixtures. It is not a racial group. IS Mahathir has South Asian racial grouping? Yes. Is he a Malayali? No.

Stop confusing language/ethnicity with RACE. Even race is a social construct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malaysian71 (talkcontribs) 04:34, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Iskandar Kutty a migrant from Kerala[edit]

Iskandar Kutty emigrating from Kerala can be mentioned[edit]

Rather than talk about Mahathir, you can insert a line about Iskandar Kutty being a migrant from Malabar. That makes more logical sense than calling Mahathir a Malayali.

Please discuss rather than edit war[edit]

Greetings! It looks like there is an edit war under way at Malaysian Malayali. Based on your experience, I'm sure you're familiar with the three revert rule. Please start a discussion about the issue at Talk:Malaysian Malayali, so I don't have to apply administrative sanctions such as a block of your account or protection of the page to stop the warring. —C.Fred (talk) 19:01, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
