List of bow tie wearers[edit]

Thank you for your interest in this article. Unfortunately, I found it necessary to revert your changes. Wikipedia policy on verifiability applies here. Furthermore, it is particularly important to provide solid reference citations in this particular article and to ensure that the people listed are truly "known for" bow-tie wearing in view of the number of times that it has been proposed for deletion and/or deleted due to concerns about sourcing and criteria for inclusion. Perhaps it would be helpful for you to read the most recent deletion review for this article in Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 November 19 (click on "show" to see the discussion) and the earlier deletion discussions linked there. --Orlady (talk) 18:03, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To be included in a Wikipedia article, information needs to have been published in some form by a reliable source. The New York Times article that lists Fred Astaire as a "bow-tie devotee" may be brief, but it is a sufficient source to allow Wikipedia to list his name in the Wikipedia list article. Your deletion of that citation actually could be considered vandalism. Regardless, if you want to add text saying that he was "known for his formal white tie look", you will need to cite a source that says that. A person can click on his article and see images of him wearing a bow tie, but it would be original research to use those images to make a generalization that he was known for the white-tie look.

As for your comments about Michael Jackson, they appear to me to be purely original research (which is against Wikipedia policy). --Orlady (talk) 20:11, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
