Looking at the references you've listed so far, it seems like you're going to be talking more about research applications of synthetic channels as well as the kinetics or mechanisms behind their function. The current article posted is somewhat unclear on research applications so I think this is a good place to start. I like the content that you have added so far, especially the sentence giving an overall context in the introduction. Firstly I would remind you to add citations as you go, so you don't forget which information came from which source. Then for specifics... I feel that the mechanism section is a little hard to follow because you combine many ideas into one sentence (e.g. "These transmembrane proteins form pores through lipid bilayers to facilitate the passage of ions, whose movement is influenced by an electrochemical gradient, from one side of the membrane to another"). While the apposition does add value to the sentence, I feel it distracts from the message. Maybe consider splitting it into two sentences. In the synthetic isoforms section it would help to explicitly state that the researchers are mutating the channel. You could add something like "modifying the channel's selectivity through mutations" (or site directed mutagenesis). The 3rd sentence would benefit from a transition e.g. additionally.
