Arbitration blanking

Hello! Recently you blanked out this arbitration page, and some related sub-pages and talk pages, as a courtesy. I wasn't aware of this practice, but WP:CBLANK says that done under rare circumstances. Can you please explain why you did it? Mudwater (Talk) 22:05, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

@Mudwater: Arbitration case decisions have been courtesy-blanked in the past when the circumstances warranted it. While I can understand the reason for your question, I would rather not discuss the specific rationale for blanking because it relates to one or more persons who are not present here and cannot participate in the discussion. However, I will state that before blanking the pages of this five-year-old case, I raised the idea of doing so on the arbitrators' mailing list. Please note that the pages are blanked, not deleted, and the histories are available if there is a future need to refer to them. Newyorkbrad (talk) 22:13, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks for explaining. Mudwater (Talk) 22:28, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
@Mudwater: And thank you for your interest. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 00:20, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Jimbo's talk page

Dear Brad, please let me know what you think about [1]. Thank you. EllenCT (talk) 01:48, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

This is not an issue I have studied beyond the level of reading the newspaper. I have no expertise in the area, and I don't think it would be helpful or relevant for me to post my layman's personal opinion. Newyorkbrad (talk) 03:09, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Sun Aug 16: Great American Wiknic NYC & Beyond

August 16, 3pm: Great American Wiknic

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our annual summer Great American Wiknic, this year being held virtually.

We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person!

Featuring artist-Wikimedian Sara Clugage's "Picnics: An Outside History" for a cultural exploration of picnicking, knowledge and society during the national panel in the first part. We encourage you to call in for the second part from a local park or natural site and share it on the video stream, as well as sharing your favorite picnic grub or other special foods with us.

Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda. The Wiknic is taking the place of "WikiWednesday" this month, so we will also include salon and knowledge-sharing workshop aspects.

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm online via YouTube (watch our national panel's livestream, and participate by text chat)
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm online via Zoom (participate by videoconference with NYC community)

We especially encourage folks to share your parks and foods on screen, and add your 3-minute lightning talks to our roster for the Zoom portion, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues!

(You can subscribe/unsubscribe from future notifications for NYC-area events by adding or removing your name from this list.)

"Unconscionable"

I have to tell you, Brad, that I found you using the exceptionally strong word "unconscionable," as well as BHG's use of the word "perverse," to have been demoralizing in their potency. After all, this was not a life-changing decision on my part — it's about being restricted from a website for 30 days, whether rightly or not, subject to appeal. So, I thought I'd get that off my chest. Regards, El_C 02:19, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

@El C: It's a strong word, reflecting a high degree of disagreement with the block length, which upsets me and which I still think needs to be changed, and whose significance to an editor should not be minimized—but does not (or at least was not meant to) carry any imputations beyond emphasis. I balance the unhappiness created by the long block with what I perceive as the minor nature of this particular violation and felt a sense of powerlessness that I can't adjust it unilaterally, so I'm left with adjectives to reflect my point of view on the matter. I may be more used to the word "unconscionable" from its uses in legal contexts than others might be. Similarly, "perverse" has a non-inflammatory meaning of "having consequences the opposite of what would be desirable," which I'm sure was the sense that BrownHairedGirl intended rather than anything associated with the word's cognates. For what it's worth, my words and actions here have received many harsh adjectives of their own over the years, only some of them parliamentary. Newyorkbradblog is back

I've just added a new post to my occasional (lately, very occasional) page of wiki-essays. Please see here for "Notes on notability." Please feel free to comment on the essay here. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 01:25, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Another New Yorker?

Hello, Newyorkbrad. Your name obviously implies you're from New York somewhere. Are you from New York City like I am? If so, where? I live about a 5-10 minute drive from Coney Island. NYC Guru (talk) 13:54, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

P.S. I'm hoping the coronervirus plague situation will improve further to the point where we'll be able to enjoy all the activities we've been missing over the past 6 months. NYC Guru (talk) 13:54, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, I'm in Manhattan. Maybe we'll meet at a Wikimedia NY live event when those can start up again. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 15:55, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
We can only hope the social distancing guidelines will ease back to normal by the end of the year. I know I lot of people in our city miss indoor dining and are hoping to get it back soon to some extent. NYC Guru (talk) 21:51, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
