GMAW[edit]

Hey Nichalp, I've got a question for you. I'd like to nominate gas metal arc welding for featured article status, but I still haven't completely resolved the images problem. I've been thinking about the circuit diagram you requested, and looking at some of the examples of them in my textbooks. My drawing skills aren't very well developed (drawing a half decent picture of a gas tank won't be easy), and I'm not sure where the picture would fit even if I did draw something, so I'm wondering if you would be satisfied with a text description of the circuit (i.e. the shielding gas tank is connected to the welding torch with a hose through which the gas flows, the wire feed unit feeds electrode through the center of the torch, and the power supply provides power to the torch). Also, I added the lead picture from welding, and will shortly fix the numbers on the welding torch diagram. Do you have any other concerns about the article? --Spangineer (háblame) 11:09, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Are you referring to a drawing of the electrical circuit, or a diagram of how the different components (shielding gas tank, wire feeder) interact? If the latter, do you need more than what I mentioned above? --Spangineer (háblame) 11:24, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
There are a couple good ones at [1] (note that this is a 800kb pdf) on page 6 and page 12 (according to the pdf page numbers, not the internal page numbers). --Spangineer (háblame) 12:21, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, that would have been easier. I meant figure 1 and figure 9. Figure 1 is the most general and thus probably better to work with, while figure 9 is a more specialized case (compare to figure 10). But figures 9 and 10 might be useful for clarification if something doesn't make sense on figure 1. Thanks for helping me out with this. --Spangineer (háblame) 15:24, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
Well, if you're OK with a block for the wire feeder and gas tank, I can do it as well. I should have some time to work on it tomorrow, so if you'd like, I'll put something together and you can let me know if it's acceptable. That is, assuming you aren't dying to draw that diagram =). --Spangineer (háblame) 15:39, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Gray coded images again[edit]

I've reduced the licensing on the images from IfD on July 9 to just the GFDL. I'd prefer something less restrictive, but there are just too many options — I'd have to go read 4 or 5 CC-by licenses if I wanted to do the job properly. Now that I've done that, can you be persuaded to lift your objection? I have uploaded other images in the same way; I will correct those in the next day or so. (By the way, I'd think the risk with objecting to deletion based on the licensing is that you get two sets of identically badly licensed images, one of which no one wants or is using.) -Splash 13:51, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. -Splash 15:49, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unlocking "kashmir" article[edit]

I thought that it would be a nice time to unlock the article on Kashmir, as I believe any edit wars might have cooled down after nearly a month or so. Alternatively you could just add that: There was another war like situation in 1990 when Benazir Bhutto promised a "thousand-year war" for Kashmir and a serious threat loomed. Both nations were on the brink of war until Pakistan tried to used to its recently acquired nuclear power to force a settlement. This led to de-escalation of direct rivalry but led to USA passing the Pressler Amendment creating an embargo on weapons for Pakistan including the sale of F-16s.

As you can see it was a critical juncture in the history of Kashmir and cannot be ignored. So I request you to unlock the article to make the changes or make them yourself in any manner seen fit. Thanx. --Idleguy 18:47, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

I'll read the unlocking policy, and then do it in a day or so. =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:51, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
I have unlocked the page. =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:23, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

Hello! I've noticed your past interest in Wikipedia:Mind Benders and wanted to let you know that round one is now officially open! Consisting of ten challenging, puzzling questions, it is sure to be tons of WikiFun! In addition, take a look at all 9 of our great artistic entries and vote for one of them! Hope to see you there! GMAW circuit image[edit]

OK, I made the image. It's at Image:GMAW Circuit.png. I'm not exactly sure where to put it in the article, however. Let me know what you think about the image itself and where you think it would best fit. Thanks! --Spangineer (háblame) 03:42, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

Glad you like it. I'll play around with the image settings tomorrow evening and reupload it. I'll probably nominate the article for FA status on Wednesday. --Spangineer (háblame) 14:14, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

Category dispute in Subhash Chandra Bose[edit]

Hi Nichalp, in the article Subhash Chandra Bose, two users ... Alren (talk · contribs) and LordGulliverofGulben (talk · contribs) are participating in a regular category revert war. In the last 1.5 months, they reverted categories 14 times. The dispute seems to be over cateogorizing the article as Category:History of India (which LordGulliver wants) and Alren's argument that Category:Indian freedom fighters is already in sub-sub-category of History of India. I requested them to discuss this on June 29 and then again on July 10, but nobody cared to discuss it there. So, as an admin, would you please take a look into this and arbitrate? The revert war is becoming ridiculous. Thanks. --Ragib 03:55, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I give up! The category has yet again been reverted. Lord Gulliver presented his side of the arguments in the talk page. --Ragib 06:00, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

India Projects[edit]

Thanks Nichalp, regarding your suggestions on India Projects. I will add more information to cities and districts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to improve the status of articles. burdak 07:40, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: NSCB[edit]

Thanks for setting up the vote in NSCB talk page. While as a Bangladeshi I would very much like to improve the Netaji's article, I do believe we need to work in a structured way. So, the article is correctly categorized under "Indian Freedom Fighters". From what I see in the category Indian History, it focuses on the overall history, and include many sub categories that cover each time period. So, I agree with you and Alren in removing the redundancy in duplicate categorization of the article (Both indian-history+Freedom fighters). I don't really understand LordGulliver's point, it is better to have everything properly categorized in a hierarchical manner.

As for the Admin thing, I'd love to be so, but could you nominate me at the end of the week? I'm working on a lot of articles in the next few days, so it would be better to have those done before you put any nomination. Thanks a lot for your kind offer. I have been spending most of the summer evenings working on Wikipedia and would like to participate in a deeper level. --Ragib 20:45, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

GMAW image[edit]

Tired of GMAW headings on your talk page yet? You're just too popular; too many messages in between mine that I worry you might miss them. Anyway, I've fixed up the images, and I think everything is in good shape. The circuit image is now 14kb, and the picture of the torch itself has new numbers and I fixed the key. So I'm nominating the article for FA status. Thanks for your help! --Spangineer (háblame) 01:57, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

color coding (infobox)[edit]

Hi, Should I try out the pastel color range for the city/state/district infoboxen ?. I think the white font on dark background is not advisable, rather a dark font on a light background looks more appropriate (see earlier discussion).

Nicholas, are you safe? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 12:16, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

Dear Nicholas, I believe the Almighty shall be by your side, and by the side of all your dear and near ones. The Mumbai floods of 2005 are really so bad and I feel sad. May God be around you. --Bhadani 12:55, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Great to know that you're safe. Perhaps when normalcy returns, you can upload some pics that can be used for 2005 Mumbai floods started by Bhadani. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:29, July 28, 2005 (UTC)

Oh. I just saw the article and its images. I've put the news item on the main page. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:46, July 28, 2005 (UTC)

FPC objections[edit]

Hi Nichalp, just to let you know, most FPC objections are by nature not actionable. People simply don't like most pictures, and thus object to them being featured. They might not like the composition, or the subject, or whatever. With maps, it's a bit of a different story, since you can change the image as you go. But people still aren't required to give a reason for their objection, like they are on FAC. But in order to be promoted, an image has to get a consensus of support, which in this case means that it's ok to have a few oppose votes so long as the image has a bunch of support votes. Oh, and I just noticed that the map has been promoted, right before I was going to go in and vote. Keep the good map pictures coming! --Spangineer (háblame) 19:40, July 28, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Admin[edit]

Hi, thanks for your message. Sure, I am ready for RfA now. Thanks in advance for nominating me.

By the way, great to see you are fine ... with all the news on the flood in Mumbai. I'm from the world's most flooded country ... but yet the death toll in Mumbai amazes me. I guess global warming is to blame.

--Ragib 16:55, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi,

Just checking in to see whether you are OK wrt to the floods. Looks like you are fine, based on reactions of other people who have already enquired. I don't know how you would feel like reporting in such a situation though- I believe the recent London bomb blasts had many peole taking photographs and conveying information rather than helping people. There was this write-up in The Hindu today about someone called Neil Gaekwad who contributed a lot in the Air India colonies. Don't know whether it forms part of the article on the floods.

Regarding your request about History of India, as I told you earlier, I don't want to take the plunge and start contributing lest I get caught up again. I definitely will return back ( haven't deleted my user page), but maybe not in the near future as I am very busy. KRS 06:42, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is bad, Today, Jul 31 seems to be the repeat of Tuesday. As far as tue is concerned, the affected regions were in the north and I am in the south, which was relatively unscathed. I haven't seen the damage as yet as the regions are about 14 km from where I am. publich transport has been severly hit and the continuing unsettled weather

I have contributed a bit to the article updating the article and adding scanned images and maps. OK take your time but I guess the article will be a FA before then. =Nichalp «Talk»= 08:05, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
