RfA[edit]

I have posted an RfA here Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Israeli_POV that lists you as an involved party. Carbonate 03:49, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is actually my first RfA, I would say you should sign the space under the "all parties are aware" section and add a statement if you so desire (less than 500 words). Carbonate 03:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The blank comment section has been filled in. If you wish to add a statement, you will need to do some copy and pasteing. Carbonate 10:09, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to add a statement if you don't want to. Copy and pasteing is where you highlight some text, and select Edit->copy then put your cursor where you want that text to go and select Edit->paste. Carbonate 22:11, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your statement of support. Would you also be able to ~ sign under the section "all parties are aware"? What do you think of the links I added to my statement? Carbonate 01:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Off topic[edit]

I guess this has been off topic, if you guys are still interested this discussion can be moved somewhere. And if you do it, don't forget to put a move notice below this discussion. I agree with OldRoy on double standard, and i agree with merbabu on the bali bomb perpetrator should be punished. But i believes the perpretrator is not only the so-called JIs, but also foreign agencies who wanted to blame Indonesian muslims. And sure, what Israel did is really bad. And to make it worse, people still call Palestinians (who suffer from Israeli occupation, full embargo, and ruthlessness) as terrorists. They have their lands invaded, bombed and occupied, their family killed in brutal way, and they fight back with anything they have. And for this resistance they are called terrorists. Poor Palestinian. Poor Lebanese. Poor Iraqis. Poor Afghanistani. Muslim suffers everywhere. But people call them terrorist. I also feel sorry for Australian kiled in Bali, American killed in WTC, and any other terrorist actions, but at least people dont call them terrorists --Nielswik(talk) 14:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are double standards EVERYWHERE. No-one can claim (correctly) they don't have double standards, right? :)
Also, I think most reasonable people can see a clear difference between (1) a decent Palestinian family simply trying to create a decent life for their children and (2) a group who fires rockets into residential areas by a group who openly say their mission is the destruction of Israel. ALSO, reasonable people can see a difference a difference between (1) a decent Israeli family just trying to create a decent life for their children and (2) over-zealous war mongers in their government. I don't think any reasonable person can call the Palestinian or Israeli families terrorists, as for the group (2) - let's not get into that pleaseeeeeeeeee.
As for "foreign agencies" trying to blame Indonesian Muslims that makes no sense to me. Why? What is the motive? I accept there are bad things happening to Muslims around the world (and to many other groups) - but I just don't understand that idea re Bali conspiracy. Let's ignore for a moment the question of evidence, what are the motives? --Merbabu 15:03, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably people know how to differ that 2 groups that you said, but they can't differ another group who fight for the independence of their country, to protect their children, women and brothers, against the occupation force in their country.
Regarding the motive it is quite clear. Since the fall of Soviet, westerners are afraid of the rise of Islam. It can be clearly seen in Afghanistan. USA who supported Taliban against Soviet invasion turned toward them and topple them in a military invasion. Their motive in Bali is more less the same with the motive of bombings in another part of worlds. They wanted to tell Indonesian government something like thiss "your country is full of terrorist, if you want your country safe, cooperate with us." Then they can increase their influence on Indonesian policy, and have Indonesia arrest more and more Islamic cleric, such as Bashir who has nothing to do with this. Why do people in Australia be very angry when bashir was released? If he's found not guilty by the court, it meant you don't have to angry with him, since he didnt have anything to do with the killing of the Aussies in Bali. But your media keep saying he's terrorist, and you believe in your media more on our court. Howard intervened, and your ambassador even send a letter to our justice officer, asking to punish Bashir. That's why he was jailed for immigration and conspiracy stuff. --Nielswik(talk) 15:40, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much about the Bali bombing trials. But I guarantee you Indonesia had laws against homicides before the bombing. Any state likes to have a monopoly on violence. The "retrospective" or backward looking laws probably have to do with "free speech" or incitement issues. I am just guessing. And they probably had something to do with conspiracy. Those kind of charges are crap. Easy to prove against anybody. Kind of like WP laws as applied by some people around here. Regards OldRoy 22:23, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, ha - thanks for your um, "little gift" on my userpage. As i said, I get a lot of enjoyment out of the Indonesian pages. By the way, i created Indonesian architecture. Check it out. Hello[edit]

Hi - would you mind checking User:Yujinkitagawa edits on Indonesia and other recent items - they look aneh to me but I saw you are on now. Hope thats not a problem to ask you. ThanksSatuSuro 07:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that - when I saw them first in the history view they had for me the nafas of something not right - but your reply to me suggests that they're ok. Thanks for having a look -I am unfortunately always suspicious of red letter talk page and user page editors - I get so used to reverting vandalism from such users, I thought I better check with someone else - thanks for that. Chinese characters[edit]

It was never something i paid that much attention to at the time, but i can guarrantee you that on the incoming customs forms handed out on international flights entering Indonesia everyone had to tick a box saying that they were not carrying text in CHinese characters (and the other standard food, drugs and pornography, etc regulations. I also remember reading that Gus Dur's administration had revoked this ban including a ban on learning Chinese. YEs, of course, I am only talking about the official rules - enforcement of the rules is always different. Maybe I can find some sources soon. --Merbabu 08:42, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

handing them ammo?[edit]

i noticed that you complimented this user [2] for their 'help' on hezbollah article. does it really help? doesn't simply inserting comments that are easily dissmissable as 'anti-semitic' (aside from, i thought, their irrelevance there, i got the impression that the particular 'user' is simply anti-jewish) only play into the hands of pro-israeli fanatics? it has, i think, made it easier for them to dismiss any criticism of israel as 'anti-semitic' & so sway the opinions of people who might otherwise not be particularly biased against palestinians. just a thought   bsnowball 17:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hi, 1st sorry about that thing w/ opin. noticing it, prob. not really my place to say it anyway. with any luck he'll get himself banned or blocked sometime. with the merge i proposed: i reported weasel's stupidity & all, but the one thing i forgot to do was get rid of his actual vandalism. that page is only the log of all the merges. the 'votes' need to be on the talk page & reasons etc. there's already a lot offensive crap there from runed etc. but fingers crossed. ben    bsnowball  17:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lingkaran Setan[edit]

Hello there - well, I know of course the words lingkaran and setan seperately, but before I didn't know them together. My good dictionary (Echolis & Shadily) suggests "vicious circle", do you know what that means? Revenge killings are a good example - ie, they go around and around. Or debt can b another vicious circle- ie, one borrows more to pay off debts, then borrows more, etc, etc - a "vicious circle". What was the context? --Merbabu 11:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesia collaboration[edit]

Hi Nielswik/Archive2! It's the last few days of the Garuda Indonesia collaboration. Please contribute!!!

Also, could you please vote for the next fortnight's collaboration? Please vote down the bottom of this page. The collab for the fortnight will be decided this Sunday 26th (or Monday at the latest). By the way, we could also chose Garuda Indonesia for another week.

So please visit and help choose the next article. Any questions/comments, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you particularly if you have any good suggestions! :-) --Merbabu 10:29, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - re the fortnightly collab I think your suggestion for Indonesian National Revolution is a great one. BUT, since we already have a bit of consensus for Majapahit Kingdom could I maybe suggest we do it NEXT one? ie, if you change your nomiation for the Revolution to be after Majapahit, i will support it . You could just change it now to next one - he he. (actually, I think i might have suggested it last week, but someone removed it and suggested Garuda - lol). --Merbabu 12:58, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Currently, the Indonesian National Revolution article covers only the battles between 1945 and 1949. BUT, isn't the formulation of a sense of nationhood in the early 20th century equally part of the revolution? Revolutions are solely about fighting. Ie, we have the formation of nationalist parties, Sukarno's (and his colleagues) political actions, introduction of Ethical Policy and education of Indonesians, introduction of Bahasa Indonesia, and even the Max Havelaar which was very important. What do you think? I think it is an excellent nomination - if you had said it before Majapahit i would support 100%. But i support it 100% for AFTER majapahit. :-) --Merbabu 13:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, Nielswik/Archive2! This fortnight we've chosen: >>>Majapahit Kingdom<<<. Please help in referencing, check my newly added headings, improve prose, diagrams, but most importantly is RESEARCH so we can actually grow the article. Any other suggestions for improvement, please leave on the article's talk page. Yes, please discuss on talk page!
Also, can you please post suggestions for the following fortnight's collaboration. Please leave your suggestions at the bottom of this page. Hopefully i will remember to remind you to vote in about a week (someone else remind me!).--Merbabu 14:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Created. :) It needs work so good on you for volunterring. I suggest for a start references, sub-headings, even pics. And I think we can maybe shorten the section now in Indonesian National Revolution--Merbabu 12:47, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re Bung Tomo pic, one can't assume any pic is free of copyright restrictions. I think there is a good chance it is though. I will get back to you on that one. I hope we can use it. And have a look at this pic - [4] - i love it! Do you think it is the actual flag incident? --Merbabu 13:58, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I also had a great high resolution photo of General Mallaby's bombed car, but now I can't find it. --Merbabu 14:13, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Found it! [5] Do you think it is the car? I thought it would be more damaged. Also, this: [[6] ]--Merbabu 14:29, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it appears that it just might be the car. This makes more sense now that it seems the grenade was thrown from the car, not at the car. RC Smith claimed that although he throw the greande Mallaby was actually shot moments before (Smith seems to have been in the car). Anyway, the sources: [7], then click on "Detail". I wonder if we can use this??? --Merbabu 05:10, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I swapped some of the stats around in the info box. I am sure it is correct now, but change it back if I am wrong. By the way, what does 100,000 mean? It has no info. See diff: [8] --Merbabu 02:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re Mallaby death - read the pdf "Who Killed Malaby". It quotes direct eyewitnesses. It is all interesting but the most relevant pages are perhaps pages 98 to 99 as printed on the text (or 12 & 13 in the pdf). A lot of websites say "killed in an explosion" but I cannot find a direct source that actually says the explosion killed him. There is a lot of info that can be used for background for the article. I haven't had time yet to incorporate it. Regarding your questions on photos, maybe put the Bung Tomo photo in explaining fair use (although WP:FU says photos can't be used just to show what people look like - although, as you say, it is anonymous). I might try and see if I can also include the car photo. The best is the Hotel picture - that captures a moment that can't be repeated. Maybe we should put all this discussion onto the article talk page for the benefit of others. --Merbabu 05:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re you suggested page move for Indonesian National Revolution, i put a note on the Indonesian notice board. [9]. I actually signed for your support - so maybe you wanna change that.

Also, check this out re license tags for Indonesian photos: [10]--Merbabu 09:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict[edit]

Hi. I'm new in wikipedia and am not sure how to proceed. I think you're sympathetic with my editing in the "media controversy" section of 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict, but it keeps being deleted and I'm not sure how can I get an arbitration about it. Anyway, I'd appreciate if you can point out your opinion in the talk page of that article, where I've started a discussion.

Thanks anyway.Chimba 19:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian National Revolution[edit]

Hello there. I just had the idea that one day the article Politionele acties and Dutch military aggression should be merged into Indonesian National Revolution. First, it solves the POV questions, second, (and more importantly) even if there was no POV questions do we really need these to be seperate from Indonesian Nation Revolution? It's not that long anyway.--Merbabu 10:16, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
