Nigeria[edit]

Your edits could be mistaken for linkspam or copyvio. Please discuss your reasons with editors of Nigeria at Talk:Nigeria. Thanks. Mikereichold 15:18, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you think visitors want pictures, then (since you probably own the site) submit these pictures to Wikipedia. No offense meant, sir, but I doubt the rest of the site can be called an reliable (unbiased) source. --Perfecto 19:51, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Our conversation[edit]

I believe I am cordial and civil with you. Please do not remove my message in the Talk page. How would you feel if I remove your reply? Please retain the message so people can follow the discussion. You want a discussion, right? Thank you. --Perfecto 01:45, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam[edit]

This message concerns your repeated addition (using this account, or the IP adress 64.56.232.174 (talk · contribs)) of two external links to a substantial number of articles related to Nigeria. In all of these articles, the links have been removed. Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia as we drive for print or DVD publication; see the welcome page to learn more. Thanks. — mark 19:55, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Music of Nigeria[edit]

I reverted your change at music of Nigeria because those external links are not references. Tuf-Kat 02:36, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And I reverted your addition of the same external links to Ijaw, Biafra, and Ibrahim Babangida. Please do not re-add them. Continuing this behaviour in the face of so many warnings not to do it might be considered vandalism, and it might get you blocked.
Thanks for your message on my talk page. I sympathize with your goals, but you have chosen the wrong way to pursue them. In no way it can be a good thing to add the same two external links to hundreds of articles related to Nigeria. That is plain spamming, whether you have a commercial interest in it or not. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia policy and try to contribute content, always taking in mind our neutral point of view-policy, of course. If I can be of any help, please say so. — mark 08:17, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have nothing in life to do, Did you check the page in question, the external link contain Nigeria music to listen to. I wonder if that is not related to the topic..

You know what get a life.. Are you jobless, and have nothing to do, than look for links all about.. Get a life friend..

I do not appreciate the personal remarks, although I can understand that you might be somewhat frustrated over this issue. — mark 23:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dont not delete my contirbution[edit]

Please do not delete my contribution.. Let me say this most of the contributor tend to show Nigeria, in a bad light, but I am interested in making people see the other side and ask themself question, if all they know is correct. You deleting my contribution only destroy the imagine of nigeria. I am here to make the imagine the rest of the world see my country, to be correct and prefect. Puting picture and information is the best method, and I would continue to do so, i please beg of you, please stop deleting my contribution. We are already in a hole by bad press, i just want to use wiki to make the image better. Bad image bring poverty, and my people are already poor of bad information, please do not make my people poor more than what they are already . we need investment, people are living below a $1 a day. we beg you. Please help us and stop deleting. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nigeriamajor (talk • contribs) .

Thanks for responding. I sympathize with your goals, but you have chosen the wrong way to pursue them. In no way it can be a good thing to add the same two external links to tens (or hundreds) of articles related to Nigeria. That is plain spamming, whether you have a commercial interest in it or not. If I can be of any help, please say so. — mark ✎ 08:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Nigeriamajor: spamming, please define, because from what I know is spamming, this does not fit that defination. I have ready all the policy, nothing talk about it.. If you think Wikipedia is not a powerful tool to help, I do not believe so, even the Minister of Information in Nigeria, talk about what Wikipedia is doing to better the imagine of Nigeria. So wikipedia reach alot of people, Just because of that Picture. Can you imagine a minister taken interest in Wikipedia just because of Nigeria picture. This may not mean much to you, because you dont care.. Your people are not Involve, I am assuming you white, if it was a White society that need your help, will you turn your back.. ASK YOUR SELF THIS QUESTION, and if you can say in your Heart, that this people should die just because they are black, then I think you to check yourself. Will you allow a white society to die of poverty?

I have replied to this posting on my talk page and am providing a copy of my response below. Thank you, — mark 23:00, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding. Wow, I do not think I have been accused of something like this before. I do think that my contributions to Wikipedia contradict your accusation quite strongly; please see for yourself what kind of societies I tend to care about most. If you look closely, you might find that I have contributed to quite some Nigerian topics.
As I said above, I sympathize with your goals, but you have chosen the wrong way to pursue them. It is just not a good idea to add the same external link to hundreds of articles related to Nigeria; several helpful people have pointed you to relevant policies on your talk page so I'm not going to repeat that. Once again, please don't assume that I don't care; you have really, really picked to wrong person to accuse of racist motives. — mark 23:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If I can be of any help, please let me know. — mark 23:22, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can't, apparently. After your last message on my talk page, I do not see any reason to continue our conversation. Any following message packed with personal attacks will be removed on sight from my talk page. — mark 08:24, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can I help?[edit]

I agree that pictures of Lagos, etc are a good thing for Wikipedia. And it sounds like many other editors do too, but are unhappy at how you added them. Links to highly commercial sites are unpopular on Wikipedia: they get removed from, eg, "Printing" (History tab) all the time. Instead, add information and your own pictures directly to Wikipedia. And add links to directly relevant sites, chosen for each specific article.

What to do[edit]

  • Do take your own photos. Upload these to Wikimedia Commons (or email them to me with captions and I will do it, if you can only be on-line for a short time.)
  • Do make direct links to sites which are directly relevant to that article.

What not to do[edit]

  • Don't put the same link on dozens of articles.
  • Don't upload pictures to Commons unless you have the copyright. Wikipedia would be breaking the law if it accepted them.

If there's anything I can help with (I'm not a Wiki expert, alas), please ask. And I look forward to lots more Nigeria material – of the highest quality – on Wikipedia. JackyR 21:12, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawing for a while.[edit]

I'm withdrawing for a while, if you'd like to know, to avoid fuelling the flames. You'd be advised not to make accounts like Mark Dingemanse. (talk · contribs), and also not to make more personal attacks. It might get you blocked. Besides, it won't help your case in the least (in fact, it thwarts your goals). For the last time: I sympathize with your goals, but you have chosen the wrong way to pursue them. I hope we can work towards a solution. — mark 13:43, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack[edit]

You have been temporarily blocked from editing for disrupting Wikipedia by making personal attacks. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. RexNL 13:46, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
