Nik42: thanks for your work on the Japanese emperor entries. It is very helpful. I am slightly concerned, though, that in some cases you are perhaps not careful enough in maintaining the existing info on the page when you are expanding it. I fear that, in certain entries, this might diminish the readability a little. It seems to me that perhaps it might be preferable, in general, to leave in place most of the current article as the "intro" section and then proceed with more detailed additions in addition. - Nat Krause 13:07, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Sudanese Dinar[edit]

Doing my now all-too-rare New Pages patrol, I noticed you had started the article on the Sudanese dinar. The Dinar is indeed subdivided into, effectively, ten Sudanese Pounds, and then the pound into 100 Piastres, at least of 2004 and according to this source and backed up further by a couple other places which, in my haste, I misplaced. Hope this is useful. Bobo192 05:05, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

IB[edit]

Hey Nik, seems like we've met before! Anyway, I noticed that you added a link to the IB wiki a while ago. Personally I wouldn't have done that. First of all, the wiki is already linked to from IB's main page anyway. And secondly, do we really want so many people poking around in our wiki? ;)) Cheers, IJzeren Jan 08:11, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC).

Thank you[edit]

I just want to praise your work and say thank you for translating the official positions of the Japanese Governors of Taiwan. I really appreciated it.Mababa 06:03, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Arisugawa-no-miya[edit]

hi there Nik42, i have a slight problem. when i do the "Search" function for "Takahito", i bump into this listing under the Arisugawa-no-miya article. see the bottom two:

 1. 9 1886-1895 Takahito Shinnō (熾仁親王) (1835-1895)
 2. 10 1895-1913 Takehito Shinnō (威仁親王) (1862-1913)

so apparently there was a Takehito shinno from 1862-1913. however under this article1 (Grand Admirals of Japan), he is listed as Prince Takahito Arisugawa.

again here, Japanese Admirals of Fleet, [2], he listed again as "Prince Takahito Arisugawa".

maybe you know what the proper version is? thanks alot for your help... Antares911 8 July 2005 14:43 (UTC)

hi nik, thanks for looking it up. ok... so we have to change the information then about the admiral, ja? are you 100% sure? if they are correct, do you want to make the changes or should i...? Antares911 18:06, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I would assume the Japanese page is correct. Presumably the authors of that page had access to some source that gave the correct readings of the kanji -- Nik42 20:32, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting VfDs[edit]

Hi Nik, FYI:

Cheers, IJzeren Jan 18:03, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nik,

I notice that you removed the link from Kappabashi-dori to Kappa (mythical creature). While I think the page could do with more explanation of the name, it's also clearly true that the Japanese riff off the Kappa=raincoat / Kappa=monster homonym (confusion you might call it). See for instance [3] and [4]

I didn't pay much attention to the units earlier, using the data to just emphasize the correlation between silver prices and rupee exchange rate. The reference is here Please see page 9 and 10. It refers to a currency unit abbreviated as 'd.' Do you have any idea what it might be? Thanks. deeptrivia 06:47, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of circulating currencies[edit]

I appreciate your effort of bringing information to List of circulating currencies. But I think it is better if we leave the information of smallest/largest coin/banknote to the individual articles. I am a computer programmer, and one of the biggest problems in my work life is that people copy and paste stuff, and later only 1 copy is updated and the other copies become stale and become a bug. The same applies here. In addition, it is sometimes hard to tell which one is the smallest, as the smallest may be in the process of phasing out, and a bigger unit may eventually take the smallest place. The same applies for "very large" note, like 1000 Canadian dollar around year 2000. I hate to remove such important information, but it is for better maintainability. --Chochopk 09:21, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I left the same message on the talk page of the article in question. --Chochopk 09:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really care whether the current image is on that page or not, but I think you should know that that was not the original picture. There used to be another of a girl in a non-translucent tankini that was a much better representation of the subject. I looked through the history of the article to try to find it, but it seems that somebody has replaced it with this new one, while keeping the same name. Is there anyway to get the old one back? 69.40.251.237 03:00, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
