What do you think?[edit]

Is my submission of "Augustus Vignos" adequate? Can you offer constructive criticism?

Nimishillen (talk) 02:57, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let me just comment on a couple of procedural things first. It appears that you did a copypaste move from your sandbox to the draft at Draft:Augustus Vignos. This type of move can lose the edit history, which is important for attributing contributions. It's not so big a deal here, since all of the contributions are yours, but it's an action to be avoided.
In developing your draft, you uploaded a number of images as your "own work". At first glance, it appears that none of the items would be considered as covered by copyright, because of their age, but they nonetheless do not become your own work. Please review the options available at c:Template:Information under the parameters source and author – I think perhaps you could use "own scan" if you were the one who scanned it, but you do not list yourself as the author in that case. The last photo seems to have been attributed better, but it is not tied into the text of the article in any way.
To me, it's unclear whether Vignos meets Wikipedia's standard of notability. Having these entries and mentions in the books you cited may be sufficient. I'm satisfied to leave that determination up to the reviewer. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:27, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with... I was thinking of adding some photos I had of Huaorani by the Curaray River. However, I don't know if these people want their photos spread out. Is it possible to post photos that can't be copied? Nimishillen (talk) 00:31, 12 April 2020 (UTC) Nimishillen (talk) 00:31, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Very simply, you should only upload photos when you are the copyright holder, which means - in most cases - that you clicked the shutter on the camera (or phone, etc) yourself. If the photos were taken by someone else, you should not upload them. There are procedures for donating copyrighted materials for use on Wikipedia, but it sounds like you are not in sufficient contact with the photographer in this case to ask for that. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 00:41, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Late followup regarding another aspect of your question; maybe you know this already.
Wikipedia contents are licensed in a very liberal way so they can be reused by just about anyone. If you have photos that you do not want to be copied, it's best not to upload them to Wikipedia, because they will be copied. It's all we can do to get people to at least attribute where they got the content, but stopping them from being copied is not what Wikipedia wants to do. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:37, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Augustus Vignos[edit]

Hello, Nimishillen. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Augustus Vignos".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
