Image copyright problem with Image:TinConsChart.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:TinConsChart.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 07:44, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

tin[edit]

Hi! Great that somebody improves the tin article! Do you think using the USGS as source might be better than the tin industry page ITRI? --Stone (talk) 09:03, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thanks! not necessarily. The tin info from them, at least in this case, would be just as reliable. Are you talking about for the worldwide end-uses info? I didn't find that anywhere on the site...

I'm using and comparing info from 3 sources right now:

USGS http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commodity/tin/

ITRI http://www.itri.co.uk/bfora/systems/xmlviewer/default.asp?arg=DS_ITRI_TECHART_25/_firsttitle.xsl/21

image copyright?[edit]

WOW This is really annoying - how do i show the copyright info on the image I uploaded? Is it fine now? They need to make that way more straightforward than it is. I would really appreciate the help... thanks

NittyG (talk) 09:32, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you made the image, you own the copyright. You need to explicitly allow the free use of the image by adding one of the templates listed at WP:ICTIC. There are several licenses to choose from. If you don't care about the details and all the licenses are the same to you, just paste this text in the image description: {{GFDL-self}}. You need to do this or the image will be deleted!
By the way, thank you for your significant contributions to the tin article. Now it's one step closer to becoming another chemical element featured article!--Itub (talk) 11:47, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I think I got it now. I added a little thing to the example to make it more straightforward:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Example
I still think it could be a bit more overall from the first-time user's end. Sometimes people just want to upload an image, and it's way more difficult it seems to understand how a picture works than an unreferenced text.
Also, thanks a lot for the compliment. This is the first article I've edited, and I got way into it, and I'm excited... There's still much more to put. Even on the featured articles they should have more market and industry info. I got into this after reading an article about Bisie, which I wrote an article about. It would be nice to understand the big picture about where the solder for our cellphones come and how it contributes to the conflict in the Congo-Kinshasa and elsewhere. Of course I got into all the other aspects, which are all very fascinating as well. NittyG (talk) 09:28, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is another way of adding licenses that is easier, as long as you remember to do it (sometimes I forget too!) In the upload form, under the big "Summary" text box, there is a drop-down menu labeled "Licensing" with some of the more common options. Over the years, the image upload form has become a bit more user-friendly and self-explanatory that it used to be, but if you have any suggestions I'm sure the people who design it will be interested to hear the perspective of a first-time user. --Itub (talk) 09:47, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please check your recent edit of Euclid for the strange characters it introduced. Please take these out of the text. Ian Cairns (talk) 12:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of potential interest to you[edit]

Regarding your usage of the word plagiarism, is is discussed here.

The article Uclides has been proposed for deletion. If you wish to discuss it, you can do so on its talk page.

I do not know if you wish to weigh in on either of these, but felt you should be aware of them. Novangelis (talk) 08:03, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editing talk pages[edit]

Talk pages are a record of the discussion of ides. Policy is that you do not delete the comments of others without permission. As people may have used comments in formulating their ideas, it is better to use strikethrough, by preceding you text or the text of others that you have permission to withdraw with "<s>" and following it with "</s>". Thanks a lot, will do... NittyG (talk) 13:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Euclid editing[edit]

I have begun editing the article on Euclid again, but want a good group of people to help give this strength in numbers. Not to bully, but to give it strength. PLEASE MAKE CONSTRUCTIVE ARGUMENTS, AND STAY ON TOPIC. I have sent messages to people - please just make a not below. Thanks NittyG (talk) 18:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Origins of the State[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Origins of the State, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

original research

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Passportguy (talk) 23:45, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the original research. Thanks for your help. NittyG (talk) 23:58, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Origins of the State, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Origins of the State. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Passportguy (talk) 00:27, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Pershmap.gif[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Pershmap.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. feydey (talk) 23:30, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is, I don't know what to put in this case. Normally it may be more clear, but in this case it is ambiguous. It is a drawing of a federal map that was created in the early 20s. Do I need the author's permission? What tag should I put?
You know, it would in general be a lot more beneficial to wikipedia if people were helped in these circumstances. Wikipedia is about collaboratively working together on articles. Are there message boards to discuss these things? Do you have a link to the policy page for how images are to be deleted? I appreciate your input, but would appreciate it in general if people worked with others rather than simply deleting what was put up. For the sake of wikipedians and wikipedia, when deleting an image, it would be helpful to give clear and specific reasons why the image was deleted, along with specific links to the specific policies that address each reason, and if helpful, what needs to be done to make it fit the criteria.

NittyG (talk) 00:21, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on ArcCatalog requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Cheers, Mazeau (talk) 22:56, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on ArcCatalog, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Print-capitalism, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://machines.pomona.edu/marxwiki/index.php/Print_capitalism. A tag has been placed on EOS (company) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for the note. I just sent a message to Mazca (talk), randomly chosen from the list. The article is certainly justified; it is a significant company in the area of 3D Printing. NittyG (talk) 05:37, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the page to your userspace at User:NittyG/EOS (company). I'm not sure the A7 speedy deletion was quite justified as it did make some claims to significance; but I think it would benefit from a few references to reliable sources before it gets moved back to mainspace. All the best ~ mazca talk 08:52, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Messages[edit]

I'm relatively new to being a wikipedia editor, so I hope I'm following protocol in leaving you a message here. I noticed that you created the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act page. I've now created the C.L.A.S.S. Act (U.S. law) page and wonder if you'd mind taking a look. You may not know that the "CLASS Act" is actually a subsection of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Thanks. MeatheadMathlete (talk) 03:54, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Add EOS (company)[edit]

You deleted the article for EOS (company), which was moved here: User:NittyG/EOS (company). There was a recent cover article in the Economist [1] mentioning the significance of 3D Printing and the significance of EOS within 3D printing. Can we please reinstate the article? NittyG (talk) 02:34, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to add a reference to the Economist article and move it yourself - there should be a "Move" option on the top right of your screen, near the search box. If you have any troubles, I recommend typing:

{{helpme}}

on the talk page of that article - User talk:NittyG/EOS (company) - followed by a request to help move the article. Someone will come along to help you out. Since Wikipedia is run by consensus, the article may still not meet guidelines and standards, but that should get you started. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:39, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to, but It's kind of hard to stay on top of it. There are a lot of people who seem to be pushing their POV, not compromising with an "orange". Do you want me to tell you how to edit it? Proposed deletion of Dwolla[edit]

The article Dwolla has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (company) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:58, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added a section on the talk page to establish notability [3]. Don't know how to ping you, unless simply clicking the "ping me back" link does that. Let me know if you still have issues. I will edit the article further one of these days. NittyG (talk) 18:51, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to remove the prod and request a larger discussion at WP:AFD. Now, you also say the article can be improved. Great - then please d it, by finding the sources that show the company has received significant (not passing or niche) coverage. What you show on talk seems promissing and probably enough to save the article, so please incorporate this into the article and ping me when you are done. How to ping is explained at WP:ECHO for future reference (simply put, just blue-link to my user name like this: User:Piotrus - it's enough). Thank you for your contributions, and don't get discouraged (some of my contributions were deleted too). Wikipedia has to prune some content, and is not Yellow Pages (see also Wiki-PR_editing_of_Wikipedia for why we have to be vigilant about such articles). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:12, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the confusion![edit]

Sorry, I did not mean to make to spin your (typographical) wheels at Talk:Lex Kogan. We were discussing two distinct issues: on the article talk page were discussing what content has adequately reliable sources to use in the article, while at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lex Kogan (2nd nomination) we are discussing whether the subject is notable enough for an article at all. As I noted on the talk page, the discussion at the former is moot if the consensus at the latter is to delete the article. VQuakr (talk) 03:44, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@VQuakr: Thanks a lot for this note. I'm sorry, I spent so much time on this article, I was unable to really address the deletion discussion in a timely way. I want to have a discussion about this on a separate page at a pace that I can afford. I feel that I can argue in favor of this article a bit more, and I also found some more references that may go further in establishing notability. Also, how do I access the article I created and all its revisions? Thanks for all your help. NittyG (talk) 15:32, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yao Ming[edit]

Sorry, I didn't get to put in a proper edit summary to my revert. The content seemed too trivial for the lead, but maybe can be incorporated in the body. Regarding using Wikipedia as a direct reference, WP:CIRCULAR advises against it. Not being familiar with it, I also wonder if buzznick.com is reliable (enough). Perhaps there are more established sources? Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 05:51, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I looked a lot, that's be best I could find. I suppose a question to ask is, what is the threshold - I'd think top 100 for sure, but would top 500 or 1000? If he would be below a reasonable threshold, I think it's worth putting in the article, and I do think he would be within that. Even if there were a lot of people missing in the Wikipedia article, he would have to be one of the tallest people in the world. It appears that he's taller than the tallest person in all but a dozen or so countries for example.
As for referring to Wikipedia, this is on the edge. These may be grounds for an additional exception, because it would be unreasonable to have multiple citations. All conventions in Wikipedia are created as exceptions arise, and this is a solid candidate - referring to an article of lists, which are sometimes very reliable but don't have a single reference. Perhaps we can refer to the reference list [4].
Another option is, maybe there can be a [citation needed] or other template, and open up a discussion section in the article, basically saying that "this is likely true and should be in the article, but a source is needed."
As for whether it should be in the lead vs body, if he is/was one of the tallest people in the world, that's significant enough, but I'm fine with it being in the body.

Oahe Indian Mission moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Oahe Indian Mission, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
