Removal of publication[edit]

Why did you remove this from the article? I returned this book (in my collection) to the article: Douglas Cooper: Nicolas de Staël, Masters and Movements, Weidenfeld and Nicolson Ltd. London, 1961. Please do not remove - Nicolas de Staël was a personal acquaintance of both Cooper and Richardson at the time of his suicide; and Cooper wrote this important first monograph about the artist in the wake of de Staël's untimely demise...Modernist (talk) 15:17, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I can't see that I removed that book; in fact I saw that some IP (most probably yours) added this item to the German version and was glad about it. (I tried to reconstruct your claim, but in vain.) Fact is that I translated locally, but made sure I started with an up-to-date version. Anyway, I see (mostly) you reworked my text; thank you very much! There is an inaccuracy I have corrected; "of the twentieth century" is a citation and should be cited exactly as in the original; also the quote should be given. Modernist, I have a question: If I want to translate an English article (I translated for example Richard Maurice Bucke), it has to be imported into the German Wikipedia in order to retain the edit history; how about the other way around? We have a special page to put the import request to, and some admin will do it later; the import will be put into my user space first and later moved to the right place. What is your procedure? So far, I simply created a new article in the English Wikipedia and copied my translation to it at once (or in parts, like with Douglas Cooper) which didn't seem to be a big deal as the German version was essentially mine, so the edit history didn't tell that much anyway.--Nobrook (talk) 19:58, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What I used basically to check the original German was used Google translation [1]in the English to German from the English Wikipedia. In reverse you might go there to (Google translation) and do the original english into German and then use the google translation from the German wikipedia to check the grammar and the wording. Also I worked sentence by sentence; I hope this helps. Create a new article in your user space and then when you are done add it to the German Wikipedia as you have done here, it should work. I was rather asking for adding translated German articles to the English Wikipedia. For example, we have an article about Lillie P. Bliss (in the Did you know...-section yesterday) which has no counterpart in English. It shouldn't be too hard to translate it and ask native speakers to polish it.

Ok, I assume you don't have any rules; the Germans do, they don't like that straightforward procedure, they insist in importing the edit history, in fact they argue that this log feature is a crucial part of the entire Wikipedia concept. If you just create a new article in the German Wikipedia and add a translated English article, they will find out and get you (i.e. import the edit history afterwards). (Ok, if there are hundreds or thousands of edits in the English version, they seem to face technical problems and may shorten a bit.)

No problem, you've got to know the prescribed procedure, that's all. I tried raw translations with babelfish, but it doesn't really help much. Instead, I rather translate sentence by sentence from scratch and use dict.cc for word translation. I'll try Google, though. So far your two articles are fine; don't worry about the edit histories. You should acknowledge the fact that they have originated from the German wikipedia on the talk page. However as you have already done before - create them in your user space; and when they are ready (more or less) add them as new articles.
