Title change[edit]

Hi, I changed the title to (Economic distress of Biharis in India) what I believe is appropriately reflecting the content of the article. I am aware that changing the title hasnt solved all the problems and I still believe the article needs a lot of rewriting and will be doing my contributions whenever I find some time. Hope it is ok. Thanks. DockuHi 04:25, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Docku: thanks for this. Please check CNNIBN http://www.ibnlive.com/news/state-of-neglect-deluged-bihar-falls-off-govt-map/72343-3.html Alienating Bihar?

Does it hurt when Goa minister Ravi Naik said that people of Bihar are coming across and bringing poverty, when Raj Thackeray said that the people of Bihar must get out of Maharashtra? When racism and prejudice is directed against the people of Bihar, does it hurt and one feel that there is something that one must do for the state?

I agree with your changes and appriciate your feedback on the entry. Good luck in making further changes.

I have followed these events recently and share your concerns and see u soon editing. DockuHi 13:09, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Racism faced by Bihari Community in India[edit]

I have edited the article "Racism faced by Bihari Community in India" a bit and changed the title back to Racism faced by Bihari Community in India, based on the discussions here and here. Kindly discuss if you disagree. Manoj nav (talk) 09:52, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have done a few edits like -
  • Changed the line in the introduction - "Bihari communities living in other states have been subjected to a growing degree of prejudice and violence." to "Bihari communities living in other states have been subjected to a growing degree of racial discrimination, prejudice and violence." It's supported by references, which are secondary sources.
  • Changed the line in the introduction - "Biharis are often looked down upon" to "Biharis are often looked down upon and their accent is ridiculed."
  • Added comment by Indian journalist, Vir Sanghvi.
I have added few more references and will keep adding references. Manoj nav (talk) 17:22, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Racism faced by the Bihari community[edit]

Hi Notashamed, Hope you are doing good. Yes we should do detailed studies in these areas and publish them, and encourage experts to take up these subjects. They are very important, specially the historical part. To make a better future it's very important to know the history. Manoj nav (talk) 10:13, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Notashamed, What's up? I had been busy these days. I hope to contribute for wikipedia from now onwards. Lets not waste much of our time on the article's (Racism faced by the Bihari community) talk page. If you can give me your email id, I can send you some documents related to the article. Also it would be great if you can prepare an article on it and publish it some where. I am also thinking of doing the same. We have done good amount of work on it. Lets not just stick to wikipedia as these websites are vulnerable and we end up wasting a lot of time debating without any head and tale. Every user behaves as if he/she is an expert. So lets continue contributing for wikipedia, but use more of our energy in writing on these topics in good journals. Lets do more and more reading. There are many related books. I personally aim to reach more and more Bihari readers then anyone else. Most of us are so ignorant. Manoj nav (talk) 06:49, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vedic literature displays open hostility and disgust towards Magadha[edit]

  • The history of Magadha from the earliest times to the dawn of the Buddhist age is not well known. The entire Vedic literature displays open hostility and disgust towards Magadha, because Magadha was a great stronghold of the pre-Aryans and refused to be absorbed in the sterotyped Brahmanical pattern.[1]
  • ..Mention is also made of Magadha (South Bihar) and Anga (South-eastern Bihar), although these region had not yet been Aryanised and their inhabitants were regarded as strangers... (Later Vedic period) [2]
  • ..Magadha and Anga were still regarded with aversion. For in a text of the Artharvaveda fever is wished away to the peoples of these lands. The Magadhas are also contemptuously described as Vratyas, outside the pale of orthodox Brahmanism, and speaking a strange unintelligible language... [3]

It appears that Biharis faced prejudice in ancient time as well.
