Box Art

Why do you keep changing the box images to 256 pixels? This may be considered vandalism... Just wondering, especially since you just reverted someone's revert of your change. -JC 04:46, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Keep in mind that some of the box art images are actually not that big, so they'll look like crap if you blow them up to 256 pixels. It's also a little big on the page. I think 180 is an optimal size for quality and size concerns. Moogy ^(talk) 12:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh. Let me explain myself. First off, my intentions aren't vandalism. I've changed some of the box art to 256 pixels to keep some consistency throughout each page. If picture quality is a concern when they're enlarged, then I'll upload some higher resolution images (I put up at least 100 of my own yesterday, all are very good scans.) Secondly, 256 is the number I've chosen (instead of say, 250) because it leaves the least amount of space between the cover art and the infobox border. You guys are welcome to change it back if you wish, but my advice would be to stick with that size. Also, my apologies for removing some of the descriptive text, CyberSkull. I planned on adding it back later. And finally, I am new to WP, so naturally I will make mistakes, but I'm also a quick learner. High-resolution game-box images are not covered by fair-use (did you read the lisence you've been putting on them? It says LOW-resolution images are covered)... I'd just stick with the 250 ones, as it's fairly consistant. I don't think 256 is any better as far as border locations go; perhaps it depends on browser/screen size? If that's the case, I'd just stick with what it already is at, since at least some people have already been reverting :) -JC 05:36, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

WP is about concensus so you should start a discussion in the VG group before just implementing broad changes accross the board. Also, check the images your replacing before you do it. I'm pretty sure my Street Fighter Alpha Anthology image was big enough to do in 256 rather than 250 (although 250 has been the standard as far as I've seen). WP likely doesn't want redundant images because that just wastes disk space. I'm new at this too, but I'm just trying to keep things flowing smoothly. It is good to see you come at this with so much enthusiasm though. If you see some articles you can improve on feel free to go aheadHewinsj 13:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
