One Big Union (Canada)[edit]

Wow, it seems like you created an article about the One Big Union while I was working on it myself. Well, it did take me three hours with lots of breaks to complete it. I've decided to use my version since it's quite a bit longer, I hope you're not too bummed out about this. If there was anything in your version that's not included in mine, feel free to add it.--Carabinieri 02:34, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yours definitely beats mine... I was just trying to get a stopgap page up until something better came along, which you've posted. --Nucleusboy 16:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Updated DYK query On August 1, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article One Big Union (Canada), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

I declined speedy on this article, it asserts that he won lots of medals - hence an assertion of notability. I think it may be a hoax and have listed it on WP:AFD. Feel free to chime in there. Carlossuarez46 19:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Ben Christophers. I do not think that Ben Christophers fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because claims he issued two albums on a notable label per WP:BAND, of course still unsourced. I request that you consider not re-tagging Ben Christophers for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. You are, of course, free to tag the article with {{prod}} or nominate it at WP:AFD. So you may still want to nominate it. Carlossuarez46 20:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging of Sylvia walby[edit]

Sorry, I have no idea whay this page may be blatant advertising. It is a page about a well known and important Marxist Feminist professor and author who is one of the worlds leading sociologists on this subject. She has lead the way in womens studies from her early days at Lancaster through UCLA, Bristol, LSE, Leeds and back to Lancaster. She is and has been chair of many senior womens orgaisations and umbrella bodies and the leader of several important research establishemnts.

I appreciate that this is my first major contribution but I feel hounded. I have gradually improved the article, added references, articles, cross referencesd publications and CV and uni pages.. and have gone from comments about needing to add references to a "rapid delete"

Please explain which of the blatant advertising/rapid delete reasons this page violates.--Suefidler 15:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, this is my bad. I should have gone with something less drastic than a speedy. My objection was to phrases like "Sylvia Walby is one of the world's leading authorities on gender", and to the listing of quite so many papers which she has worked on. My apologies for appearing to hound you. --Nucleusboy 20:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK.. but I thought it was good policy to give a decent bibliogragraphy.. and she is certainly considered one of the leading academics in the field of womens studies and gender issues, as you can see from the vast number of references to her.. and i have only put in some of the academic references, not all the papers, news articles etc. Suefidler 21:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the ideal option would be to find a source that describes her directly as "one of the world's leading authorities" and cite that source to support the claim. On the subject of the bibilography, if some of her works have received significant coverage in the field's literature, they'd be the ones that would be more suitable for the page. --Nucleusboy 13:47, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recently you deleted my addition to the entry for Model International Organization. I readded the material and you deleted again. I understand the reason, but the information is not protected information. Furthermore, I am the author of the original text that I copied from the MIO website. What can I do to keep this info on the Wikipedia entry? My friends and I are the founders of MIO and wanted to create this page to chronicle the organization. But it will be difficult if someone erases it each time we update. And since the updates will be made by us and the current members, it will be likely to match the website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Platypustheking (talkcontribs) 15:18, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

If you want to use the text that you created on Wikipedia, you should put a note on your website (or just on this page) stating that the content of the page is released for reuse under the GFDL, which is compatible with Wikipedia's copyright policy.

Checking history[edit]

Hi, when on vandalism patrol, it's a good idea to check history; Harn is a long-standing redirect that was replaced by nonsense, not created anew as garbage. I undeleted and then reverted the vandalism. Stan 15:12, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops... yeah, I try to do that, but my 'net connection was hella slow yesterday, so I was trying to load as few pages as possible. --Nucleusboy 15:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Message from Spiralnotebook[edit]

Note: This message was moved from your userpage.

I believe you had some of my newly posted information deleted because you felt it was blatant advertising. I would like the chance to speak with you about what specifically you found wrong with my information and resolve the issue amiably. My argument is that products like Gatorade and Vitminwater each have self serving pages. If there's something simple I could easily remove, I would be more than glad to do itSpiralnotebook 18:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm slowing figuring out how to work on Wikipedia as I am new. I now see that each user has a talk page. I will message you from here from now one.

To further explain my position, I respect the idea that Wikipedia is an extremely powerful tool. If the integrity of it is comprimised, I could see how it would become sullied. I have no intention of doing this. Instead, I'd simply like the opportunity, not to market on Wikipedia, but to explain concepts in scientific terms and cite my research accordingly. If my great blunder was to add my website URL, I would be more than happy not to do that anymore. --User:Spiralnotebook 19:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tell you what, I have no problem with going through my work (which I've saved to my HD) and finding the appropriate citations (which I was going to do anyway as soon as I figure out how to cross reference... perhaps you can help with that). I'm sure we can get this to the point where you have absolutely no objection to my work. --Spiralnotebook 19:09, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

kk, the main issue I had with the content was that it didn't seem very neutral-point-of-view. An article on a beverage should discuss the beverage's salient characteristics, as well as explain its notability. Articles such as Gatorade exist because the beverage is instantly recognizable to hundreds of millions of people in many different places, and so there is less of a need to explain its notability. By contrast, this article was the first I had ever heard of Lock+Load. While there is probably a case to prove notability for Lock+Load, given that articles such as [1] exist, it's more essential to prove that it's notable and deserving of an article.
On the subject of references, simply type something like this <ref>Doe, John. Blah Blah. Nowhere: Acme Press, 1984.</ref> in the place where you want to put the footnote, then put <references/> at the bottom of the article. --Nucleusboy 20:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your point is very interesting, and I completely understand where you're coming from. If Lock+Load was a product with no merit of its own, it would rely on marketing hype and in such a case, would require a medium through which to hype it (i.e., wikipedia). I understand why you jumped on it.

Let me float this past you. I plan on establishing notability through the idea that the product is not ordinary but revolutionary. This is not an untested Vitaminwater knockoff. Lock+Load is a progressive product that captures the latest nutritional research and technology to actually improve the world of sports nutrition. I simply wish for the opportunity to make this known to those who are proactive enough to look for it. Of course, this won't be interesting to everyone, but then again, neither is Carl Marx or the mating rituals of bees. My argument is that peptides are revolutionary in the way that the body utilizes them and therefore, a trend of peptides in consumer products will persist down the road. If peptides are notable, then the products they are in are also notable. Lock+Load is notable because it is the first beverage to use them. Olay Regenerist is notable because it's the first skin cream to use them. Etc.

Of course, I'd be more than happy to follow criteria you think appropriate. How's that sound?

Thanks for the tip on citations. --Spiralnotebook 20:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've completely reworked my article and I'd like to post it. Please go ahead and take a look. I'll check back regularly to see if you have concerns. Thanks for your help with the citations. Once question. If I use one citation more than once, is there a way to get it so that it doesn't repeat it as a source more than once? --Spiralnotebook 01:47, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to use the same source more than once, instead of just <ref>Doe, John...</ref>, use <ref name="blah">Doe, John....</ref>. The next time you want to use the same source, only type <ref name="blah"/> (make sure to type the slash after the name of the reference). Hope this helps.
BTW, Lock+Load looks much better now. --Nucleusboy 01:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm actually really glad you were the first administrator to come across my, as I think you're right, it was much improved.

Unfortunately, after you saw it tonight an other administrator ,Vgranucci, came across it and deleted it without even responding to my posts on his user_talk site. If you don't mind, would you take a look? What do you suggest I do next? --Spiralnotebook 04:18, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

message[edit]

Since you dont allow people to email you I am forced to talk to you this way. Yes I am new to wikipedia editing, but I do not appreciate all of the deleting you are doing to the Georgetown, MA article. Myself and two other residents are adding information that cannot be found in articles or the internet. The information we are adding puts more flavor and insight to what our town is like and if you would just stop that would be great. Thanks. (message left on userpage by User:Turkeydaybusted, pasted here by Natalie 02:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

There's a lot of information not available on the Internet that would add "more flavour and insight" to a lot of Wikipedia articles, but that doesn't mean that it deserves inclusion. Lisgar Collegiate Institute has blue lockers, but that doesn't need to be in its article. Neither does Ottawa have lists of famous teachers at its high schools. Not all information deserves to be in Wikipedia.
On another note, the way to resolve this dispute is by talking about it on the talk page. --Nucleusboy 04:07, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Meernium[edit]

Based on your speedy deletion nomination of Meernium, you may want to review the definition of patent nonsense. While criteria A1 seems to be useful for "nonsense" articles like Meernium, it really only applies to articles whose only content is, as my high school English teacher would say, gobbeldygook. Articles that aren't random characters or word salad but are still "nonsense", can be speedied under another criteria, like A7, or sent to PROD or AFD. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. Keep up the good work! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ioeth (talkcontribs) 22:14, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civ 4: Beyond Etc - DE Release[edit]

Hihi. Sorry for not giving rational in my deletion of the DE release, I have a habit of not doing so. Anyway, check out Template_talk:Infobox_VG/Syntax_Guide for precedent ("somethingsomething...use first release date in country of origin and any english-language releases"). Japan is usually included too, as it's a big gaming territory. Anyhow, hope that clears it up! Thanks! Fin© 17:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently working at the University of Heidelberg article, and I didn't delete anything from any page, especially not from talk pages. Though, I didn't log in, and have changing IPs. 88.66.47.164 (talk) 17:11, 31 December 2007 (UTC) (Fred Plotz)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Kella (obernewtyn chronicles), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Kella (obernewtyn chronicles) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Kella (obernewtyn chronicles), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope[edit]

Just a friendly note on Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope. I declined the speedy and redirected it to the artist's article, as A9 is only for albums where the artist doesn't have an article. (Although the article didn't explicitly name the artist, it took about .5 seconds in a gsearch to determine who it was).--Fabrictramp | talk to me 00:30, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

September 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of proposed state mergers may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • [[Better Together (campaign)|Better Together campaign]] and the [[United Kingdom]] unifying with [[Isle of Man].
