Msg from Redtigerxyz[edit]

I am down with malaria since sunday, will not be able to edit atleast 2 more days. you decide if you want to wait. I tried uploading flickr images but there is an error. please upload the imagges manuaally links: [1][2][3]. You can browse through [4] gallery. the photographer rolling on has graciously asked if some pics of trek are needed. send me the links of the photos you like, i will seek permission. myth_drinker has also given me a +ve reply but the wrong license for the rudranth pic. you can browse [5] will ask for permission. About the hook, try to place a picture of kedarnath or Shiva so it is at top of DYk. if extends limit reword suggestion: that according to Hindu mythology, god Shiva (pic) assumed form of a bull and his hump, arms, face, navel and hair are worshipped at Panch Kedar temple (or central temple pic) circuit Uttarakhand, India? The dyk hook suggested has jargon like pandavas, shiva, Mahabharata which need to be explained. some non-Hindus may not Shiva is a Hindu god and thus may not click to read the articles. As you know the hooks with 5000+ hits has no/little jargon and has a pic. eg ... that Lake Pichola (pictured), an artificial fresh water lake created in 1362, is named after the nearby Picholi village in Udaipur city? OR ... that the Purna-Kalasha (pictured), worshipped by Hindus as the Divine Mother, symbolizes mother Earth with her water, minerals and vegetation? (9.8k hits) from my collecton. For Rudranth, " The holy river Vaitarani, which flows near the rudranth hindu shrine is identified with the "river of salvation", where souls of the dead cross to reach the other world". We now have pics of all temples so others can be grouped or individually nominated with a pic? a dyk about nature, mountains or trek near temples or the fact that the symbolic image is moved will be interesting. plz check Banashankari dyk too. bye--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:52, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry to know that you are not keeping well. I hope you will recover soon. The DYKs can wait. There is no hurry for me. I have uploaded the Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar photos and also prepared the template. I will work on Madhyamaheshwar in your user box of the same name. I will work on the articles during week end to put up two DYKs instead of one, as you have suggested above - One for Kedarnath and the other for Panch Kedar with other three temples. I have checked the Banashankari DYK. I have slightly altered the hook. I hope it goes through. In case you wish to add an additional hook to strengthen it please do so. Please go ahead. Thanks for the meassage.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • The DYK is through. But I do not follow the reviewers suggestion since we have given all the available details in the reference. By the way, I have started one more article on my user space User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri. You can look at it for additions and improvements after you get well. I am trying to get some pictures for that also. I hope to get them soon.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:47, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Today is the auspicious day of Shravana Monday, holy to Shiva, putting pages in mainspace. How do you want the articles nominated for DYK? All 5 together with a pic will not be the best option IMO. What do you think? About Sapta-badri, did you mean "panch badri"? Never heard of Sapta-badri, panch-badri is quite famous. The ardha-badri and dhyan-badri is not included in panch-badri. Actually, I had the same idea and wanted to talk to you. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:14, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. I also observe all the panchangams, vara, thithi, nakshatra, Rahu kala,Tara bala etc., while starting any useful activity. I feel that we could split it into two parts - One lot of two and three in the other. In the first lot, Rudranath and Panch Kedar could be uploaded and in the second lot Tungnath (expansion), Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar could be clubbed. Your suggestion for DYK for Rudranath is fine. For the other three, the hook revised by you for the combined hook will be fine. Putting five articles one after the other may invite some comments of reviewers.

As regards Saptha Badri, please see my user space :User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri. As an ardent Vaishnavite, I had heard about it from my elders; some of them had even visited a few shrines long time ago on the way to Badrinath (those days there was no awareness of photography). There are quite a few references on the Saptha Badri, eventhough the Badrnaith-Kedarnath Committee talks about Panch Badri only. Let us do it with Adi Badri to start with and expand to cover the rest six later as we gather more references and photos. At present, except Badrinath, there are no stub articles also on the others. I have also started expansion of a stub article on Triyuginarayan Temple. But not many refrences are available at present to make it a more than 5x expansion. Please let me know if our articiles are ready for uploading so that I will start doing it right away.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:07, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am experiencing some problem with author1 in Rudranth {{DYKmake|Rudranath|Nvvchar}}. is not showing in nom, may be will renom.--Redtigerxyz Talk 14:47, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. I was writing "author1", it should have been "author2" in nom. What is the ref for Ukhimath shifting in Madhyamaheshwar article. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:51, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am searching for a common thread in the articles: could not find one except the legend. Trying other facts. You will be acknowledged in all, all articles were expanded or created with edit summary "created with Nvvchar". --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:03, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:05, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nominated all of them. Feel free to change any of the hooks or combine them etc. Started researching for badris. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:33, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let us wait and see how the reviwers react. It should be Ok, as they are hooked now.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:33, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! BorgQueen (talk) 16:23, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You said: I had introduced the image since IUCN mentioned Moschus moschiferus as a synonym for Moschus leucogaster. Are you sure? The IUCN page on Moschus leucogaster does not even mention Moschus moschiferus. Where did you get that info? --BorgQueen (talk) 15:48, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please revise the article accordingly, i.e. replace the image of the species. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added a comment on the article talk. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:09, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary[edit]

Hi there. We encountered one another many months ago when you were putting together that article on the igneous contact suite near ?Jodhpur I think?? I'm grateful for all the articles on the subcontinent that you are contributing. I'm afraid i've tagged your Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary with an issue about the paraphrasing, which may mean it doesn't get promoted at DYK, and thought I should drop by and explain. The example i listed at DYK is this:

Source text:

"The tropical zone, which does not occur above 1,200m, is absent. The subtropical zone is represented mainly by chir pine Pinus roxburghii up to 2,000m. Euphorbia royleana occasionally occurs on dry, southern aspects up to 1,500m. Within the temperate zone occur ban Quercus incana (1,500-2,100m), moru Q. dilatata (2,130-2,750m) and karsu Q. semecarpifolia (2,500-3,300m) oak forests. Rhododendron arboreum often constitutes a second storey. Oak may be mixed with fir Abies pindrow at higher elevations (2,600-3,400m). The subalpine zone consists of birch Betula utilis (3,100-3,350m) with an understorey of Rhododendron campanulatum. Rhododendron extends into the alpine zone, from above the forest limit to 3,500m. The herb community of the subalpine and alpine meadows may be dominated by Danthonia cumminsii, which forms tussocks of grass over extensive areas. The flowering plants of Tungnath and Kedarnath are enumerated by Semwal and Gaur (1981) and Semwal (1984), respectively. Two sedges, Carex lacta and C. munda, previously known to occur only as far west as Nepal have been recorded from near Tungnath (Green, 1985)"

WP article text:

"However, the sanctuary does not have tropical zone, as this zone is generally reported below 1,200 m (3,900 ft). Chir pine Pinus roxburghii is the main subtropical zone's vegetation recorded up to 2,000 m (6,600 ft). In the dry southern slopes, Euphorbia royleana occur up to 1,500 m (4,900 ft). In the temperate zone, at different elevations, ban Quercus incana (1,500–2,100 m/4,900–6,900 ft), moru Q. dilatata (2,130–2,750 m/7,000–9,000 ft) and karsu Q. semecarpifolia (2,500-3,300m) oak forests have been reported. Rhododendron arboreum is generally seen at the second level. Oak combined with fir Abies pindrow are recorded at higher elevations (2,600–3,400 m/8,500–11,000 ft). The sub alpine zone consists of birch Betula utilis (3,100–3,350 m/10,000–11,000 ft) with an "understorey" of Rhododendron campanulata. Rhododendron extends into the alpine zone, from above the forest limit to 3,500 m (11,000 ft). At Tungnath, the flowering plants consisting of two sedges, Carex lacta and C. munda, have been reported. In the past, these were reported only in the far west region of Nepal."

There may be other cases in the article - this was just the first I picked up. An explanation of why text that is this close to the original can be a problem can be found at this essay: Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Briefly, even though the words have changed, it can still be a copyright infringement. In terms of style, I think there may be a little too much detailed info in the text as it stands. I'd like to help improve it, but i don't think i'll be able to in time to solve the problem for DYK. Look forward to continuing to work with you occasionally, and to reading your articles! hamiltonstone (talk) 09:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. Since there is hardly any time for making the changes, I have no issues on this article not getting DYK nomination. As the author, I may be contstrained by a blinkered view to locate such paragraphs (as you have seen today I have not been able to locate it) and I would, therefere, appreciate if you could please edit it suitably. Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 09:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Navvchar, Fauna section of the article was little confusing with those both common and binomial names. I fixed some of those by leaving only the common name and delinking binomial name. Also fixed some disambs. However there were some problematic species mentioned I encounter. Himalayan musk deer's binomial name is given as Moschus leucogaster not Moschus chrysogaster which is Alpine Musk Deer. I saw this issue also raised by Borgqueen in DYK. You also written Sericulus spp. a bird species against Hodgsons's Brown-toothed Shrew. Is this a mistake?Boulanger's keelback is Xenochrophis asperrimus not Amphiesma parallelum. I also think you must have intended to write Little Pied Flycatcher Muscicapa Tessmanni Flycatcher as two species. Little Pied Flycatcher, Tessmann's Flycatcher Am I correct here? I think you can double check those things and do the necessary corrections. If I caused any mistakes there please revert the edit. However I found this article very interesting. That's why I did the editing. Best with the article. Regards--Chanaka L (talk) 10:00, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I did some verifications.
Himalayan musk deer; there is a note in the IUCN reference reads,
Taxonomic Notes:This taxon is sometimes treated as a Himalayan subspecies of Alpine Musk Deer M. chrysogaster (e.g. Grubb 1990), but it was separated by Groves and Grubb (1987) and by Groves et al. (1995) on the basis of different skull proportions.
unep-wcmc.org document published in July 1991 (update). So we can assure that this is a paper that pre-dates the split of Himalayan musk deer from Alpine Musk Deer. In the end, we can say the error is with the unep-wcmc.org source.
Hodgsons's Brown-toothed Shrew; verified the shrew belongs to Soriculus family.
Little Pied Flycatcher; According to this source Muscicapa westermanni is also use for this flycatcher. Check the birds no. 107. But the accepted name is given in its article.
Amphiesma parallelum; This database says its common name as Yunnan Keelback and seconded by this. On the other hand the boulenger's keelback Xenochrophis asperrimus is an endemic to Sri Lanka. Its common name in confirms here and here. Both these snakes were described by George Albert Boulenger. That could have been the causing the confusion.
I think all these confusions caused by the unep-wcmc.org paper. Perhaps because it is little old. I also noted that you requested to drop this article from DYK, which is very sad. You have put a lot effort to this article and done a fine job here. All the best--Chanaka L (talk) 04:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am terribly sorry Navvchar, Seems to be Borgqueen has removed the suggestion from the list. Sorry. Best with new ones!--Chanaka L (talk) 13:19, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sapta badri[edit]

Instead of organizing the article as history and legend. I suggest there be 7 sections for the seven temples with main links if the articles are created. A separate section for trek paths. added a few links to research. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have done it. Will add more later. But the references do not give much more additional info than what has already been put in. Photos would still be a problem.--Nvvchar (talk) 01:53, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed 2 refs talk about Narsing Badri in Joshimath as part of the sapta-badri. Even that should be added. --Redtigerxyz Talk 09:59, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Which are the two references? Narsingh Badri is the same as Bhavishya Badri. But I did not see any new material. For Arda Badri info is though inadequte. The reference to Adi Shankara between 5th century and 8th century in building all seven temples reads a bit odd. I also could not find coordinates for four Badris. May be you will succeed.?--Nvvchar (talk) 12:44, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added coord of all badris I could find. Done with article. Add it to mainspace when you like. Will help with prayag article, but can not with ashoka one (not much info about it). --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:12, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ALt 1 is good but alt 2, Adi Badri is not explicitly referred as the oldest complex in any reference. will search for alt hooks, if any. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:52, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have nominated a alt one too, if you don't like remove it. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:07, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Both are fine. Let the reviewers take a pick. Your alt is better.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sapta Badri[edit]

Thanks to you and Redtigerxyz for all the great work on the Garhwal temples. As I mentioned on his talk page, when I added the Panch Badri section to the Badrinath temple article a couple years back, I had hoped to make an article out of it someday, but couldn't find much material. What a joy to see so many of the temples from that area now, with photos and stories. Many thanks, Priyanath talk 04:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rajasaurus[edit]

Hello, Nvvchar;

I'm not as up-to-date on abelisaurs as some of the WP:DINO members, so I put on the talk page there to see what they thought. J. Spencer (talk) 15:51, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked at it again, and I think it would be a reasonable GA. Since you've had the most interest in it, you may want to put it up for GA yourself. However, if you're busy or unfamiliar with the process, I can do it. J. Spencer (talk) 16:53, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Spencer. I am not familiar with the process of GA. I would appreciate if you could kindly process it.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:57, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have now nominated it. J. Spencer (talk) 01:14, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eld's Deer and Keibul Lamjao National Park[edit]

Well, Navvchar, I haven't done an assessment before. But as your writing impress me I might then,

Eld's Deer: Pretty lengthy, adequately sourced, style, alright. I think this can be as asses a B-class article now. First can you put all the scientific names in italics. I think following observations of mine would be helpful in the GAN. A solid lead section perhaps? It would be better if you move the inline citation to the first sentence of the paragraph rather than the last line. If there is possibility to disperse the citations through out the para it would be nice. Is it possible to use numbered list rather than the a,b,c list.

Keibul Lamjao National Park: same above with the scientific names. Disperse citations again rather than bunching them together? Embed the list in Avifauna section. Be careful about the WP is not a travel guide.

I am having an exam on Sunday. I am afraid, I couldn't fix the minor changes in the articles. With little work in the GAN discussion I hope this two will be promoted. All the best then! Regards--Chanaka L (talk) 15:16, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Chanakl. I will do the needful.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:23, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I am not sure whether you read the Wikipedia:Embedded list. I think you misunderstood me on lists. So I'll try to make myself clearer this time. A numbered list is desirable over an informal list. But editor should try to incorporate lists to text if he can. Refer my edit Keibul Lamjao National Park#Fauna section. You can easily write the Threats section as a paragraph. Also have you read the Wikipedia:NOT#NOTTRAVEL. Telephone numbers appears at the end of article bordering what the guideline emphasize. I believe you should list it for GA review as the main contributor. If I do it I am responsible for answer promptly any concern raised in there. As you are the one know about the references, I might not be able to answer satisfactorily if someone questioned about the sources. If you are not sure about going straight to GAN, perhaps try Wikipedia:Peer review. If someone raised questions on wildlife section I will try to assist you. All the best then. Cheers!--Chanaka L (talk) 12:10, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prayag[edit]

This site [6] will not be regarded as WP:reliable source (RS) and its reliability may be questioned by editors as it is an informal blog by a non-scholar and the information can not be considered trustworthy. I have not removed the ref and leave the decision to you. [7] is not a RS too as it is a marketing, commercial site which may have distorted facts. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:49, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then, we have to find altenate references to get simialr information. I will start the search. You may also like to try.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Triyuginarayan et al[edit]

I work at a much lesser pace than you, will start with Triyuginarayan and then go to User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Sapt Puri. I will interested in Hinduism or places in Mumbai and Maharashtra. I do not know much about Delhi, so can't help in articles related to it.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:08, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy greetings on Krishnajanmashtami day. I have started working on Titwala. But there is not much reliable info on the web sites. I could get only one reference book that too of Maratha-British war of eighteeenth century that mentions Titwala as a camp. I have made requests to several people on flickr for photos. Some of them are from Bombay. May be a special request from you could help. I will prepare the draft by evening and post it on my sand box (if you have already created one for that let me know), for you to add further. As regards Sapt Puri, I have almost completed my inputs with all photos and refrences. It is now left to you to further add or delete and process it. It is a very long article. You could also suggest some additional references for Triyuginarayan Temple article. I have not been able to get a photo from flickr. --Nvvchar (talk) 05:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
could not find much on Triyuginaraya. Added img, devanagari and copy edited. IMO, it is ready for mainsapce. Suggestions for hook:

Now the image of the temple can be a problem as it is labelled inaccurately as Vyasa temple. So I suggest a picture of the couple. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:52, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • For Titwala, created User:Redtigerxyz/Titwala. Ganesha festival on 23rd so the article needs to go mainspace at least 5 days in adavnce so work on Titwala first, then on sapta puri, if it is OK with you. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:10, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the article Triyuginarayan Temple to main space. The photo you have indicated here is not in the article. I don't know which one you want to use for DYK. The Hook for DYK is fine. Go ahead and nominate it as joint article on DYK page. I will now work on Titwala on the user page mentioned by you. --Nvvchar (talk) 06:45, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is Ok when the img is out of the article for DYK hook. Nominating it for DYK. Try searching Titvala also, government sites, newspapers are also regarded as RS. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We need to add more text as there is a comment below the DYK hook that text expansion is only 3.3 times. You may also like to check this. (I don't know how). Need to improve the situation. Can you suggest some more references?--Nvvchar (talk) 08:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I saw it: try searching Triyugi narayan or Triyugi narayana, works for some cases. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:11, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did a lot of refrencing since the afternoon. I have added text in the User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar page. It satisfies the requirements of 5x epansion (1049 ch to 5721 ch). If you find the additional text in order, then I will make the changes in the main space and reply to the reviewer's observation on the DYK page.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:38, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I will merge the text with Triyugi and finish Titwala may be by Tue. I have already some new text to Triyugi, but it made the article just 4.6X. It is not possible for me to go to Titwala, it will too crowded in this season (Ganesh Chaturthi on next sun), also busy in real life, no public holidays to visit the temple. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:15, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The expanded text is 6615 .--Redtigerxyz Talk 16:32, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article we created about Titwala mainly revolves around the temple, so I think it is best to create a separate article called Siddhivinayaka Mahaganapati Temple (Titwala), what do you think? --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:10, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was also thinking on the same lines. I suppose changing the title of a stub article is allowed. It could also be termed as "Titwala, Siddhi Vinayaka Temple" in which case the article as drafted could uploaded to main space.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:15, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not waiting for your reply. I just read: DYK for special occasions says "articles should be nominated at least five days before the occasion to give reviewers time to check the nomination." Created Siddhivinayak Mahaganapati Temple (Titwala). --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:48, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
