Lede on Criminal Copyright Law in the United States[edit]

Hi, Oboudr5. Thanks for taking a start at a lede on Criminal Copyright Law in the United States. It's a nice start, but it doesn't really conform to Wikipedia's guidelines for ledes, which you can see at WP:LEDE.

The most important part about a lede is that it should summarize the article. As you've written it, it looks like an attempt to summarize the topic itself, without reference to the content of the article.

A good portion of it is also about copyright in general; copyright term, the purpose of copyright, for example. And it has a couple errors in it: there's nothing about criminal copyright infringement in the Constitution, and criminal copyright infringement hasn't been part of US copyright law since 1787 as stated in the lede: The first U.S. copyright law was not until the Copyright Act of 1790, and it did not have criminal provisions, which were not added until 1897.

You want to have another go at it? if not, we can just go back to no lede. It would be better to have no lede than one that was erroneous.
