Thank you, very imformative! I was actually wondering how to do that when I saw everyone else doing it, funny how I was looking all over then about 10 minutes after reading your comment a few days ago I noticed it was actually also at the bottom of the edit box! I probably still wouldn't have seen it without reading your comment though. Makes for a much cleaner discussion! Burtonbluntsnowboard (talk) 07:19, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

User name[edit]

Wondering if this will work? Is there a way to change my username or should I just create another account? Is it sock puppetry to have a different username for each subject I edit on if I am passionate about them? Is it against the rules to have a snowboard type username for snowboard stuff I edit and a computer geek username for techie stuff I edit? I could probably find the answers with a 10 minutes of searching around, but I really wanted to try the help me thing and see how that works! You can request a change of username at Wikipedia:Changing username. Read down to the bottom of that page and then click on "Simple" and follow the instructions.
It is much better to have a single account. Multiple accounts are not actually forbidden, but should only be used for the limited reasons described at WP:SOCK#LEGIT; anything outside that, particularly use of multiple accounts to evade restrictions or to give an unjustified impression of support, is called WP:Sockpuppetry and can lead to accounts being blocked. Also, a single account has the advantage that you can build up a reputation as a productive and reliable editor.
Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them, and accounts representing, or seeming to represent, groups or organizations are not permitted. If there is a "Burton Blunt Snowboard" company, for instance, your present username would be unacceptable. You can choose a username based on your real name, or not, as you prefer: WP:REALNAME discusses some of the isues.
