The Great Global Warming Swindle[edit]

Hi Oliepedia. You have been adding The Great Global Warming Swindle to a number of articles. As far as we can make out, this is an unauthorized copy (the Google page even misattributes this to the BBC, while it has been broadcast by Channel 4, a different British company). WP:COPY#Linking_to_copyrighted_works forbids linking to infringing works, as that would put Wikipedia into legal jeopardy. Please follow this policy. Thanks. --Stephan Schulz 17:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Qs & comments[edit]

Steve, I'm not entirely clear about what you're asking. Of course, "please follow this policy" is clear enough, and "don't post copywritten works without permission" is certainly easy to understand -- my confusion is with the "as far as we can make out, this is an unauthorized copy" part. While I agree that the Google page mis-attributes it (I believe that I posted correct attribution in my additions to the 2 wiki pages I edited), I'm not sure how one "makes out" that a copy is authorized or not. My understanding is that Google is pretty good about taking down copywritten material.

And, while I don't want to argue wiki policy (esp one with which I agree!) certainly linking to a Google-served video could not put Wikipedia into legal jeopardy -- that's just silly.

On a more personal note, in trying to research global warming, I have found the information on the wikipedia to be a bit one-sided and, even where there is a slight tip of the hat to opposing views, they're downplayed, pooh-pooh-ed and only the weakest ones are offered as a complete list. I can't help but think that something similar to The Great Global Warming Swindle is important information to place in the "dissenting opinions" catagory.

Anyway... thanks foryour help. This is an interesting way to exchange messages <G> Oliepedia 18:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oliepedia - I removed the {{helpme}} template since it lacked any specific help request. If you need help with something please ask me here. -- Jreferee 19:43, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question to Phaedriel[edit]

You asked a question to Phaedriel about native american names. She hasn't been on since September, so you may want to go to the Language Reference Desk to ask your question. bibliomaniac15 22:34, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:25, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
