Hi, Omar! I "overheard" your discussion with Katr, and thought I'd chime in.
First, I should say that everything Katr said is accurate, as far as Wikipedia goes. Based on a pretty extensive history of editing articles around here, I'd say it's almost guaranteed that the page you created will wind up getting deleted, not out of any question of the quality of the work you put into it; it's simply outside the scope of what Wikipedia is trying to accomplish.
But, there is a larger world of "wikis" out there, and Wikipedia is one of many; the policies you'll find here are not true of all wikis.
If you'd like to have a wiki-based page about your department, which would (1) allow multiple people to contribute to it, and (2) improve the department's "score" in search engine rankings, I have a suggestion: you might want to work on a page at http://www.aboutus.org.
AboutUs is a wiki-based web site, which actually originated here in Portland, that aims to catalog all the web sites out there. Its policies are far more inclusive than Wikipedia: you don't have to prove that your site is "notable," and you have pretty free license as to what you do or don't include, without having to provide verifiable sources for every detail.
I've taken the liberty of creating a page there about your department, basically just copying what you put in the Wikipedia article you wrote. Take a look, and edit away, if you like. Feel free to contact me (which can be as simple as just replying here, I'll keep my eye on this page) if you want to explore this option further. -Pete 08:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
