DYK noms

Hi Ominae. I've responded to your query on the DYK talk page, and reviewed your two noms. Cheers, Olaf Davis | Talk 16:28, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

This image has been deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons:

  1. You incorrectly marked it as being in the public domain. As this is the logo and a character from a commercially released manga series, it is not in the public domain. Please be sure to use the correct licensing information when uploading images as consistently using incorrect licensing information can result in being blocked from contributing to Wikipedia. If you have questions about a particular image, please ask me and I'll be glad to assist you in determining the correct license for an image.
  2. The image was no longer being used, and so no longer qualified for fair use.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks! ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:06, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

hi

Image copyright problem with Image:Epign-inconnu.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Epign-inconnu.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Yasin RPG.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Ring of Red art box.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Ring of Red art box.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:42, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:MGS Drawing.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MGS Drawing.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:48, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

DYK problem

Hi. I've reviewed your DYK submission for the article United States Navy Mark 14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle, and made a comment on it at the submissions page. Please feel free to reply or comment there. Cheers, Art LaPella (talk) 01:58, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Also 3 other articles.

OK, I can explain the fivefold rule. Let's start with an easy example, Patlabor: The Movie 2. Click here to see your edits to that article on September 25. You only added a few words, so it is obviously not five times larger no matter how you count it. The rule is fivefold expansion in the last 5 days. The 5 day rule isn't strictly enforced and 7 or 8 days is the de facto rule. But to make this article a fivefold expansion, I would have to compare it to a version from last year, just after you made it. So to explain why this isn't fivefold, perhaps you could explain why you think it is fivefold so I can answer.
The hard part about counting fivefold expansion is that we only count the prose portion of the article, and an exact definition of "prose" is difficult. But that doesn't seem to be your problem. If it is, "prose" is defined at Wikipedia:Did you know#Selection criteria number 2, and for more details, "Unwritten" rule A2. Art LaPella (talk) 06:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
The fivefold rule means expanding the prose portion of the article to make it 5 times larger, within the last 5 days. Yes, Patlabor The Movie 2 isn't a fivefold expansion without comparing it to last year, which you wouldn't do. You would compare it to last week's version, which is almost the same as the current version. It went from 9918 to 9994 bytes. Fivefold expansion would be from about 10,000 to about 50,000, which would be very unusual. Most Did You Know articles are either new, or fivefold expansions of articles under 1,000 bytes. Or less legalistically speaking, Did You Know is intended for new articles, not for something you wrote last year. Art LaPella (talk) 17:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Central Readiness Force insignia.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Central Readiness Force insignia.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Epign-inconnu.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:33, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Heunri Balez and Knights.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Heunri Balez and Knights.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Modern North Korean weapons, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Modern North Korean weapons has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Modern North Korean weapons, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. This image is unnecessary for any of the Shikabane Hime articles, and does not meet the necessary requirements of WP:NONFREE for use. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:CKS rifles.jpg.

Would you like to join the Koei Warriors Games WikiProject? It is everything Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors,Warriors Orochi, and Dynasty Warriors Gundam! To participate, add your name to the list of participants and apply {{User WPKoeiWarriors}} to your user page.

If you are not sure what a WikiProject is, it is a club of Wikipedians interested in the WikiProject's subject and helping to improve articles of or related to that subject. I saw you greatly contributed to the Warriors Orochi article, so I figured I'd ask if you wanted to participate in Wikipedia:Wikiproject/Koei Warriors Games. You do not have to, and neither are you obligated; I am just asking. -BlueCaper (talk) 19:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi ominae, I really hate to tell you, because you do so much for Wikipedia, but many of the "non-free fair use" images of guns and military units that you uploaded are invalid and therefore need to be deleted. I think you misunderstood the term "Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information". This really means that even with all the time and money of the world it would be impossible to get a photo of the depicted thing. This is definitely not the case with existing units or weapons. --DavidDCM (talk) 09:37, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

British spelling

In a recent edit to the page Specialist Firearms Command, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you. --McGeddon (talk) 11:19, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Yasin RPG.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Yasin RPG.jpg.
