WikiProject MMO Newsletter - April 2007

WikiProject MMO Quarterly
April 2007 Issue I
About Us
WikiProject MMO Quarterly is a quarterly newsletter posted on the first of January, April, July, and October. The newsletter is written by any and all interested members of WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games for members of the project and interested Wikipedians outside of the project.
Questions, comments, and concerns
For general questions, comments, and concerns, leave a message on our talk page here. For questions, comments, and concerns about our newsletter, leave a message on the talk page for the newsletter section of our Outreach Department here.
New good articles and featured articles
Good articles and featured articles are a great way to see what major acomplishments we have made over the last quarter.

Good articles

Featured articles
None this quarter!

Role call
We ask that within a month, all members sign our role call to show that they are still active participants in the project. More information is available on the role call page.
Major news
WikiProject RuneScape, our former child project, was moved to become a task force of this project in January as it had a small scope but the task force is still going strong to this very day.

This past quarter marks the beginning of our new collaboration system MMOGCM. Past collaborations thus far have been World of Warcraft and MMORPG, both of which made it to GA status while it was the MMOGCM.

As well, we now have an Outreach Department which works on this newsletter as well as spreads the word of our project.

WikiProject MMO is also now a participant in the Work via WikiProjects division of Wikipedia 1.0 and as such, we will be helping decide which are the best (based on quality and importance) articles within our scope. Project members can discuss which articles are to be included here.

News from the RuneScape Task Force
We are currently trying to improve this task force so that we can edit all RuneScape-related articles in an organized manner. To do that we started a massive overhaul which we invite all task force members to participate in.

We have also gotten our main article, RuneScape to good article status this quarter. All this, and the task force was only created in January.

Signed...
Greeves, Ed

On behalf of WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games.

The Black Parade

Why is the fact that it was certified platinum in there twice? mcr616 Speak! 21:27, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks for explaining! mcr616 Speak! 21:50, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I think one of the biggest issues is that's it's not broad in its coverage. There's minimal information about the production of the album, as opposed to an article like Illmatic. The chart performance should probably be expanded; so far, it only appears to cover four countries. There should probably be a section about the singles or even songs from the album. The Black Parade World Tour section is pretty stubby right now as well. ShadowHalo 15:53, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Teenagers Single

Hey Orfen! I found this: at absolute punk and wondered if it's a reliable source. If so, I think we finally have our source, or at least we know that come the 20th we'll have some sources. Absolute Punk has never lied to me, but there's always a first time for everything.--JUDE talk 19:01, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

I have added this to the article and sourced. Absolute Punk is a reliable site, and with all the rumors about the Teenagers single I'm pretty sure it will come true. Feel free to remove if you dont agree though. TeamOverload 12:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I have already addressed why the sources you've provided are not reliable- they do not cite their sources. We still have no information that can be traced to MCR or the label in any way, shape, or form. While I would agree that we all know that Teenagers will be the new single, from Wikipedia's perspective this is publishing rumor.

Having already deleted these claims citing this exact source, I'm not removing the info again. I'm going to leave it up to you to sort that out, because I'm getting really fed up with removing the same OR and explaining why it's still OR every time. But the bottom line is this:

A source that cannot be traced all the way back to My Chemical Romance or their representative explicitly stating that Teenagers will be the next single is not a reliable source by Wikipedia standards. We're still looking at, when it comes down to it, a rumor, and Wikipedia is not a publisher of rumor. I don't know how else to phrase it. --Moralis (talk) 06:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not annoyed with you, just with this whole debacle. The reason I don't consider those sources reliable: there's no evidence that they're not just publishing rumor. The fansites are positively unreliable, because everything they publish is a "we think" kind of a thing. While they know a lot about MCR, rumor's still rumor.
That "will be released" to radio site is of very ambiguous import. There's absolutely no way to know where they get their information- perhaps they've gotten word from someone who would know that Teenagers will be released next week, or perhaps they're simply reading the same fansites we are, seeing April 23, and posting that as fact. --Moralis (talk) 21:04, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Orfen. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Alice copy.png) was found at the following location: User:Orfen/Gallery. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 00:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

help a guy out with references?

Hey Orfen. I was recently revamping the Anti-Flag article, one of my favorite bands. I had some references i wanted to put in, so I set it up just like in the Green Day article. But for some reason, the 1st ref brings you down to the Notes section, but it is all code, and the second ref does nothing when you clikc it. Could you help me with fixing this problem so that the refs work functionally? --ЯՄՊՏɧѱ/ 23:12, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

hey thanks! I never knew there was a proper way to format references (a link should just about do it :P) and no idea there was a page. And when a million words are stuffed together in Helvetica font it can be hard to see mistakes. Thanks for the help! --ЯՄՊՏɧѱ/ 01:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
