Disambiguation link notification for August 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Chattanooga Central High School, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Harrison (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, EggOfReason. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Nominations now open for "Military historian of the year" and "Military history newcomer of the year" awards

Nominations for our annual Military historian of the year and Military history newcomer of the year awards are open until 23:59 (GMT) on 15 December 2018. Why don't you nominate the editors who you believe have made a real difference to the project in 2018? MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:26, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

"Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Hardcore punk, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted." really, a valid reason such as "notable" groups at wikipedia have band pages and non of the bands removed do? Or how its Bias to have anything putting that much weight .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view#Undue_weight on new york and new york hardcore? ok going to edit it again.50.207.158.81 (talk) 01:04, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
@50.207.158.81: I have no bias against any types of metal. This is about you blanking sections without any prior warning, which is generally vandalism. If you blank the section again, it will be once again, reverted to its normal state. –eggofreasontalk 01:06, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi EggOfReason. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Nakon 05:53, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

The Store Bar shooting

Please explain this edit in which you reverted an obvious improvement, with the summary "Original lead better", while the original lead was garbage, and you also removed several other paragraphs, the references section, navboxes, and the categories? Natureium (talk) 04:45, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Pinging Nakon as I see above that rollback was just given today. (Although I'm a little confused because it's tagged with rollback, but I didn't know rollback used edit summaries) Natureium (talk) 04:47, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
@Natureium: Firstly, apologies if my rollback was incorrect. Of course, I should have checked the editor and the comment, which was something I told myself to focus on when I continued with Huggle. I initally thought that the lead should've stayed as is, and I was going to fast to see the other changes.
Again, sorry about that. Thank you for telling me, though: I'll be much slower when using Huggle, and I'll see to it that I will be more careful. Thanks, –eggofreasontalk 06:24, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Côn Sơn Island Suggestion

Your edit of Côn Sơn Island is inappropriate. The reference (Larzelere, p 278) for that paragraph uses the term "oversped". This term is commonly used in the present tense in military manuals to instruct users to "overspeed" or operate engines and generators at a higher speed (rpm) than the equipment design limit in order to destroy the generator set in an emergency to prevent its capture by a enemy. The term "overworked" would be wrong in this case as the generator could run for hours and not be overworked. Your edit changes the meaning of the sentence. If you do not want to revert your own edit, then I will be happy to do it for you. Thank you for your interest in the article "Côn Sơn Island". Cuprum17 (talk) 19:47, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

@Cuprum17: Interesting to know. Do you have any examples of the use of "oversped" in any works? None of my dictionaries have "oversped" as a word, but "overworked" could be replaced with something more appropriate. Thanks –eggofreasontalk 19:53, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
The reference "Larzelere, page 278" uses the term. I imagine that it would be the past tense of the word "overspeed", much like "sped" is he past tense of "speed". While rechecking to make sure I was correct about the reference, I discovered that the wrong page was cited so I did change the cite to the correct page number. Cuprum17 (talk) 20:08, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
  • Larzelere, Alex (1997). The Coast Guard at War, Vietnam, 1965–1975. Naval Institute Press, Annapolis. ISBN 978-1-55750-529-3.
@Cuprum17: I've added the term "oversped" as a note in the Wikipedia:Typo Team/moss entries. There, I believe people will review. Thanks for the reminder. –eggofreasontalk 15:59, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Recent events template

How do I add a template to a page indicating that the article is based around recent events? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brewstang (talkcontribs) 19:18, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello, @Brewstang:! You might want to use {{current}} for recent events. For more specialized templates, you can check WP:TM/G#Timing-related messages. –eggofreasontalk 19:23, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Recent edit to Brian Clarke (artist)

Hiya - you’ve used your rollback privilege to undo an edit I have been making to this page. I was adding additional verifiable material, to the page of a notable living person in accordance with the rules for biographies of living persons, as well as clearing up inaccuracies and editing for style. There is nothing to my edit that could be reasonably construed as vandalism, and at the minimum would it would, I think, be called a good faith edit - any contestable information I added was due to be referenced, as I am in the middle of an overhaul of the article.

Please clarify your reasons for making this rollback - I’m not here to TROUT you, but I can see you’re on a big rollback/welcome new user or anonymous contributor roll, so please take care that genuine encyclopaedic work isn’t caught up in your enthusiasm. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:23F:7D00:455B:4B33:D6F2:D163 (talk) 19:28, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Dr Pepper Arena.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:37, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Non-free use of File:101 Logistic Brigade logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:101 Logistic Brigade logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the use of the image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.

An administrator will review this file within a few days, and having considered the opinions placed on the image page, may delete it in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion or remove the tag entirely. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:00, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use

Hi, EggOfReason. Please be aware that the {{Di-replaceable fair use}} template should only be utilized when a non-free file can or is replaced by a freely licensed file. Your use of the template here is not appropriate, as the replacement file is also non-free. Please keep this in mind for the future. Thank you. xplicit 03:25, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
