A tag has been placed on Tony Davies (Businessman) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — Timneu22 · talk 12:20, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to tell if this post was a joke or not. Regardless, don't post your autobiography. — Timneu22 · talk 12:21, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There has to be some claim as to why this would be in an encyclopedia! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:16, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Helpme[edit]

{{helpme}} Im not sure where I went wrong with the Tony Davies article? Is it just a matter of references? Thanks.

Hold on please; I'm looking at this one now.  Chzz  ►  13:47, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the 'speedy deletion'. There are many problems with the article, but I do agree that it has some claim to notability at least, specifically "In 2004 Tony founded the Strangford Lough Brewing Company".
As declined from Speedy deletion, it might be subject to a proposed deletion or deletion discussion, but that gives some time to fix it.
So - where to begin;

I will write more soon,  Chzz  ►  13:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC) Specific notes/things that need attention;[reply]

  • who says he was born before a lot of you - this is not 'encyclopaedic language' - stick to cold, hard facts.
  • a leading business innovator - this is not neutral
  • many top European companies - "many", "top co's" are peacock terms. These are opinions, not facts
  • a very different Irish Beer company - again, opinion, not fact
  • Education & Background - this has no references at all. All facts need an appropriate reliable source so that the reader can verify them - for example, a newspaper article. If these facts have not been published, they should not be used in the article. This is especially' important for biographies of living people. So, for this section and all the rest, either add references to appropriate reliable sources, or remove them. Note, the sources should be independent - so blogs, myspace, etc will not be OK.

The remainder has much the same problems. You need to stick to facts from independent reliable sources, and you need to establish that this person is 'notable' by use of those. Significant coverage; see WP:VRS.

Hope this helps.

For more help, you can either;

  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.

The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Chzz  ►  13:59, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Tony Davies (Businessman), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Davies (Businessman). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. — Timneu22 · talk 13:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

The problem re: Mr Davies is that you didn't really say anything about why he's notable. Maybe he is, but you didn't tell us why. DS (talk) 12:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:P067874/Tony Davies requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
