about your rugby leagues...[edit]

hey welcome to wikipedia. i see you have been creating many rugby leagues for various countries. i sincerely hope you plan on expanding on those stubs...otherwise consider creating one at a time because there is very minimal information on those pages (less than a Wikipedia: stub, really) and they could get deleted as they stand now. -- Bubbachuck 06:30, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Time limit?[edit]

I do plan to contribute much more information to them. I'm planing on pulling bits of information from other related articles to start with. Then hopefuly, someone who knows a little bit more about the specifics about that certain country can contribute. Do I have a time limit?

not sure about an exact time limit, but you may want to mention on the talk pages about your plans or plan to defend the pages on votes for deletion (which is a pain...i suggest the talk pages). by the way you can sign your entries with ~~~~ to give name and time. -- Bubbachuck 06:42, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I thought about having a link on some of the pages I've been modifying latly to my user page, which describes my "Master Plan" for rugby league information on wikipedia. Would that be ok? Where would I put it? The 'See also' section? Create a new stub? POds 06:46, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Infact, maybe a good idea would be to include it in the current stubs definition? That is, a link back to User:POds POds 06:50, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to try one of these templates. They don't get used very often, but they have a purpose and might keep them from getting speedied or VFD'd --Barista | a/k/a マイケル | T/C 06:55, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby leage[edit]

 • All of the articles like Rugby League in Japan etc, should they be Rugby league in Japan (small "l")? If they do, drop me line and I'll help you move them. It's good to see seomone is taking care of the game in Wikipedia.
 • "Rugby League is arguably the second most popular sport in Australia and almost certainly the second most popular team sport", surely it goes cricket, then AFL, then Rugby league. Third most popular. --Commander Keane 06:34, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

League vs league[edit]

By the way, I felt the Name of the code is "Rugby League", which justified having 'League' and not 'league'. Well I did say, arguably and almost. I'm not certain on the specifics. Hopefully someone can correct them :).

 • OK then, I'll look into it. Please sign your edits on talk pages by placing ~~~~. --Commander Keane 06:46, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

Rugby League competitions[edit]

Hi there, you put some links to some User pages on the main rugby league page for some competition for which there are already articles, so I have changed the links. Obviously you can add you content to the current pages. I have alos moved content into the main space; I don't think that we should link into user pages:

Hope this is cool. Grinner 10:28, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ohh, that, forgot about those. I was moving a whole heap of stuff from my subpages today and I forgot about those. POds 10:35, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Touch Rugby[edit]

Thanks for your input on the touch rugby voting and especialy your translation of the french rules. I hope you dont mind
I fixed up some of the English, which I hope didnt much up the article too much. I think it is important that the french and english
versions be as close as possible to each other as possible. I hope we can work to make the future touch rugby article much better
then it has been and also that it can be consistent accross languages. POds 16:35, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

Hello i play touch rugby, i made the big part of the frenchy article(you can see in history :p) i like this sport. No problème for the mistakes i do in english i'm not biligual in english .I put some French club we have got more do i need to put them or did i do an article excially for touch rugby club in the world? by country(France etc...)?(I think we can start by the first) i try with the german or with nederlands wiki to make an article for the touch rugby Goldensun 07:15, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi mate, so we have our touch rugby article to do i disagree that touch rugby doesn't depend of FIT for the french we play touch rugby and we've affiliate at the FIT(never mind) can i cut and paste the touch football to the touch rugby article

Goldensun 09:06, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I dont quite understand what you want to do. I havnt got any time to think about wikipedia for a while. I was thinking of Moving touch football (rugby league) to touch rugby (FIT) or something similar. That i think would sort out everything :). We're keeping two articles. I was going to make some additions to the touch rugby article to say that the FIT is the main form of touch rugby etc. But you can do that if you want. POds 05:33, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Should a minor sport have more than one article?[edit]

I'm not sure where Wikipedia's rules stand on this but it seems to me that your intention here is to try and give rugby league the same spread as major sports like cricket, football, rugby union, motor sport, golf, etc.

Your referring to the "Rugby league in ..." articles? Well, it may appear that some of the smaller nations don't warrant that sort of info. But its interesting to do a little research on rugby league because in most countries its confined to some sort of demographic. In Australia its mainly location and class; In England its the same; In NZ its Maori/islander and want to explore this in other countries. Also, another good example is Russia. They've had a fairly long history, but its not well documented. In fact, its very hard to find the Russian stuff documented anywhere. I've started talking to be to find out the history and to find out what's going on because if there is anything its all in Russian :/ I'm not trying to replicate any part of wikipedia. I wasn't aware that union, soccer (football) or other sports had their specific countries in wikipedia. All I want to do is provide the information I like looking for, for other people. Because I have a hell of a touch time finding it and when I do, I feel as though I should write it down somewhere so other people don't have to go through the same stuff I do. A good example is the other day someone came into the rleague.com forums doing a survey on the demographics of rugby league. It blew me away! So what I'm doing I think is very useful :). I hope this is what your meant :). POds 09:12, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Touch rugby/touch football[edit]

Hello, I've been asked by Goldensun(I do not play either, but my French is fluent) to help him concerning his problem with the articles above; after having had a good look at the articles and corresponding talk-pages, if I understand correctly, the difference lies in the fact that one is considered a "hobby"-sport, whereas the other is played by the rules of the FIT. Goldensun thinks that he plays the hobby sport, but still he has to abide by the rules by the FIT. Could you help me (and him) sort this out, as he doesn't understand the reverts being made? Lectonar 11:09, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lec the problem is the nameing of the article. No doubt you have an idea what touch rugby is. Unfortunatly, the governing body in Australia calls it touch football or simply touch, where as the rest of the world calls it "touch rugby". Also, the fact that its derived mainly from rugby league and not rugby union is causing a lot of people to think it should be called touch fotoball (rugby league). This is confusing to over seas people who may not even know what rugby league is and all they want to do is read or write about touch rugby, as they know it, which is most likely the sport of the FIT (Federation of International Touch). What Goldensun was originaly putting on the touch rugby page was the game played under the FIT. The FIT game has its own page @ touch football (rugby league). As i said before, it should be at touch rugby, and the proof is with Goldensuns edit. The title is confusion for most people. Even most Aussies would have to think about it, given that its only known as touch football in NSW and possibly QLD. The current naming is stupid! stupid! stupid! :| POds 15:21, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

email to the FIT[edit]

Hello i'm a french player, in my country our sport is calling touch rugby. I work on wikipedia did you know that encyclopedia. We have a problem to name our sport and of course to name the article: Touch rugby, touch football (rugby league).

The principal argument of the touch football (rugby league) is the sport created in australia and in australia you call that sport touch football

You can see the discution on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Touch_rugby for touch rugby http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Touch_football_%28rugby_league%29 for touch football (rugby league)

Can you help us please(sorry for my english) Quentin Goldensun 18:25, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rugby league in Kenya[edit]

I removed the speedy deletion tag from Rugby league in Kenya because "Rugby league is not played in Kenya anymore" is not a valid criterion for speedy deletion. If rugby league used to be played in Kenya, an encyclopedia article could still be written about the historical game, the reasons why it is no longer played there, etc. If rugby league was never played there, and your writing the article was a mistake, then you can ask for speedy deletion on those grounds. General criterion 7 of Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion is "Any page which is requested for deletion by the original author, provided the author reasonably explains that it was created by mistake, and the page was edited only by its author." --Angr/tɔk mi 21:16, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL premiers[edit]

Hi mate, I was thinking of making a comprehensive list of the top-grade rugby league premiers in Australia, but I wasn't sure what title it should have since the comps have had different names... I thought List of Australian rugby league premiers was most appropriate, but might be a bit misleading thanks to the Australian Rugby League. You seem to be the guy most 'in touch' with all the league articles, so I thought I should get your opinion. Thanks. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 05:06, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick reply, you made a lot of good points I hadn't considered. I'll give it more thought and see if I can come up with a way to do it, if at all. Thanks AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 13:14, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Rugby league[edit]

POds, any chance I could be added as a member of the WikiProject RL team? 99% of the contributions I make to Wikipedia are rugby league related, 1.

I also believe one of the main things that needs attention regarding RL would have to be pages created for many of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Famers aswell as the creation of a page dedicated to the Rugby League Hall of Fame [2]. With legends of the game such as 'Graeme Langlands', 'Wally Prigg', 'Norm Provan' & 'Billy Batten' (and the list goes on) not having pages to date is a bit sad.

Tiburon 17 December 2005

By all means, add your self to the wikipedia page. I should mention that on the front page. I'll add you for you :). Welcome aboard Tiburon. POds 10:46, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi mate, I know you're a huge rugby fan, and therefore more likely to not like AFL. But I suggest you check out WikiProject AFL and maybe we can trade tips on the running of both our projects, Rogerthat 12:53, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject RL[edit]

Hey mate! I'm sorry about the amount of time I took to send you a message. I got your first, then upon the transfer of accounts lost track of it, then I just forgot again after you reminded me. Sorry if you thought I was being extremely rude there! Also, don't be alarmed by my lack of contributions towards RL, being the offseason I have (and usually do) pay less attention to it until it starts up again. I guess the lack of games conincides with my lack of involvement. I'm not sure if I should join or not because as of right now I dont really do many RL articles anymore, but I'll see whether my enthusiasim for RL Wikipedia returns when the season kicks off. Anyway, thanks a lot for letting me know whats going on. I hope we can collaborate on many RL projects. Cheers. Forever young 16:15, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Licinius[edit]

I have certainly had issues with him, as have many many other users. I have also reviewed his edits, and you are absolutely right. He apparently shows liitle regard for policies or respect or anything (although, I have seen some improvement I think). As for banning him, I do not have the authority unfortunately. I'm also not entirely sure that he has done enough to be banned according to Wikipedia policy. I know that a number of administrators have also had conflict with him, namely CambridgeBayWeather, Gyrofrog, and PeruvianLlama (mostly CambridgeBayWeather). Read their comments to Licinius and also consider contacting one of them if you feel the need. I sympathize with you, but unfortunately have the power to do very little. You should contact an admin. Good luck! --Arch26 17:48, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I should add though, that it DOES appear that Licinius is now making more of a concerted effort to become a productive member of the community. --Arch26 17:52, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POds, you are out of line[edit]

POds,

Your comments "it is people like you that give Rugby League a bad name" amounts to a personnel attack. This is both unacceptable and unprovoked. Wikipedia is very clear on this policy which I suggest you read *Wikipedia:No personal attacks.

If you have a problem with some of my edits on Rugby League could you please leave your objections, so that some consensus could be reached instead of making vague threats, insinuations that I was acting in bad faith and saying that I "have not presented Rugby League in a positive light".

I personally find your comment both insulting and ignorant. If comments of a similiar nature continue to show up from you, I will have no objections to referring you to administrators for both harassment and the previous objections. Shape up or ship out.

09:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Licinius Licinius Licinius 09:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Further more POds it is actually considered bad manners to delete other people's comments on a wikipedia thread. In fact that was half of the vandalism that people refer to on my page that I was deleting their messages as I did not care. This disregard by you is both offensive and contrary to user policy.

I asked you to outline what vandalism you were referring to?

You have a disregard for Wikipedian process. Shape up or ship out.

06:03, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Licinius

POds you are still out of line[edit]

I suggest you read these as you have been in extreme contravention of aspects of them in my opinion. The warnings you refer to are not only inappropriate for you to comment on but an example of your bad faith to the best of my knowledge.

If you are interested in the dispute between myself and CambridgeBayWeather I do not mind explaining it. However I still find your personnel attacks to have been seriously offensive. I feel that you are commenting to "showboat" yourself for attention in my opinion. I would like to think otherwise but that is at this point how I interpret your unnecceasry and incitive comments. You have still not outlined your objection to my edits. I would like this very much if such objections exist.

Threats will not get you far when you preempted the dialogue over nothing with a personnel attack.

football[edit]

The Victorian Rules folk ar trying to claim that Aussie Rules is an Australian variety of the game when it is very distinctly a Victorian variation of the football and was codified in Victoria many years before the beginning of Australia. If you share the same opinion I would love for you to come to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Football and give your opinion.

All the best

Thankyou[edit]

Mate its Bradley1956 here. I am the editor to the Cowboys web site. I just want to take the time to thankyou deeply for you comments to the Cowboys page. I have been facing a tough time lately over some other editors who are Broncos fans who dont like my work. They have been stating that the Cowboys dont deserve such a long lengthy article becuase they havent been in the comp as long as them and so on. I just think that their comments are against what wikipedia stands for and for you to comment that the site is heading in the right direction made me really feel good for a change. I wont take up too much of your time and your editing to the stadium site was more than fine by me. I understand I can get a little bit passionate at times and it is sometimes hard to try and sit on the fence when writing about pasts and present. Always remember that the Melbourne Storm have a premiership under their belts and get my RESPECT. Good luck for season 2006.

Little Help[edit]

gday POds. Its brad here mate, Just trying to do a few rugby league player pages on players that went through the Cowboys. I was wondering what tagg i have to put on the bottom of the article to allow the article to be left alone so I can do more research on that player. ie, where the player was born and those little things I dont have access to at the moment. I have started some pages but have been told the page lacks info. But I need to get some research completed to get the pages rocking!. Do you know what tag I need to add to make it a footy project page?.. Thanks [Bradley1956 08:53, 30 April 2006 (UTC)]

Pods[edit]

Mate, The editor here from the North Queensland Cowboys page. I just wanted to bring up with you that someone is attacking my site. They delete massive portions of my work for what appears no reason at all. I think it is the guy who was annoying me earlier but cant be 100% certain. What should I do? Do you know whom it might be?. Your help in the past has been fantastic. PS: Well done Melbourne Storm on Saturday!

Mate, Just went onto the computer and saw that the North Queensland Cowboys had their team of the decade removed and the team badge logo timeline removed also. In the discussion area the team of the decade was up for discussion yet dan removed it anyway. Also Dan never at any stage asked in the discussion section if it would be okay to remove the logo timeline. I am rather discusted in his actions as he is simply just editing the page to what he likes instead of giving the article its required cleanup. I am yet to be fully satisfied that the cleanup actions that have been undertaken. They have not all been of benifit. [Bradley1956 04:59, 19 May 2006 (UTC)]
Dan thinks that as long as he just says he is editing an article and types spme crapola in the discussion section then it gives him full right to go ahead and delete or remove article information without waiting for a response in the discussion area. This is the reason behind why I copied his actions to prove a point with an administrator. I want to know why dan is allowed to edit the cowboys article so intensly yet other rugby league articles like the sydney roosters article has had such little editing and such little hassle?. Are you only allowed to have an indepth web article if you have won a premiership? I think it is so wrong that he is getting away with this and no one is saying anything. If he was doing it to your Merlbourne Storm article I would expect you to be saying something. How can it be he gets away with this?
In fact i care little about the storm article, i'm facinated mainly with rugby league history. I dont want to get too involved in this process. I'm having a break from wikipedia and I am not an admin. That is, its not my job to sort through peoples issues. I've given you a few helpful hints, but from the sounds of it, further action must be taken by an administrator.
Also, there is this little rule about reverting. That is, we dont like pages to be reverted to and from the same amount text more than 3 times. In fact, if it happens three times, the page is usually undergoes a period of inactivity whilst a discussion takes place on the article. I'll ask dan to stop all editing and converse with you.
You should also look in the templates section of wikipedia, to find a nice template to put on the page, directing all would-be editors to the discussion forum. Also, "watch" the page for edits so that if an edit is made during this time, you may revert it, citing the discussion has no concluded. Perhaps i mean a vote? I'm not sure. I'm sure the administrators can help you with this. POds 02:24, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
 • The Sydney Roosters article faces various attacks on a weekly basis and is actually highlighted by wiki admin as a hot spot for vandals. Have a look in the articles history, if you can link the user vandalising the Roosters page to your one you may have a case to put forward to wiki admins re: the user being banned from making edits.Sbryce858 08:52, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WPRL Article Improvement Drive[edit]

Hey I've noticed you're a regular on rugby league articles, particulary NRL ones. I need your advice on something I'm thinking of starting up on the project. Many WikiProjects have Article Improvement Drives which have different levels of success. I'm thinking of starting one up for this one too, but instead of voting on an article I would rather strive to improve one NRL club every fortnight and bring it up very close to featured status. Now it seems as though there'd be a lot of work involved, but there are also a lot of club fans out there who'd probably be willing to participate. Basically there are 30 weeks in the NRL season and there are 15 club pages that are not yet featured. I propose that we all have a schedule to work on one new article every second round, in alphabetical order. By the end of the season hopefully we will have 15 near-complete, if not complete articles. My only concern at this stage is the dedication of editors to help out other team pages that they are not interested in. Basically in order to get the support of editors like these, we need a few leaders in the project. If you are willing to dedicate a bit of your time every week into this and if you have any further suggestions, could you let me know at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league/Article improvement drive? Thanks, --05:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
