Presidential Electoral histories

Political families
I admire your work at List of United States political families. I also have some questions for discussion and suggestions that I would like your opinion on.
- First, obviously, the article somehow needs to be shortened. I did suggest splitting the article on the talk page, but on second thought, I think that needs reconsideration. It might be preferable to split the article into state articles, like List of New York political families, since most of the families are from one state. This might be better than creating lots of family political line articles, which provide little context. Also, I think it would be better to incorporate the political lines into articles like Harrison family rather than create an article like Harrison family political line.
- I think the current method of laying out the members of a family is confusing and should be changed. You have bulleted hierarchical lists, but they don't really represent relationships among the family, just the generation change. For example, see Roosevelt family#Members for a more intuitive use of indented lists. Since most of the families, which include both ancestors and descendants, are not merely descendant lists for which a bulleted hierarchical list would be useful, I think the list should not be hierarchical. It should just be a flat list of members and how they are related.
- Also, I think it would greatly help the size issue if every single office a politician held was not listed; just list the highest office attained.

New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. Walter Burwyn Jones
Hi! Here is another political family you can add to the list: Walter Burgwyn Jones received one electoral vote in the 1956 US presidential election, served in the Alabama House of Representatives and was a state judge. Can I please request that you add sources to support the individual athletes that you have been adding to articles for cities. I'm sure that you're getting the list of teams from a source and all material added should be backed by reliable and verifiable sources. Mount Holly Township
Please remove Dave Robinson from the list of Notable Residents because he was never a resident of Mount Holly. He, along with countless other Burlington County residents, were born in Mount Holly because that was the location of the area's hospital. I, too, was born at the same hospital in 1941 and I, too, was never a resident of Mount Holly. Dave and I grew up in Mount Laurel Township, attended the same school in Moorestown, and played on the same athletic teams. He and I are friends and I spoke with him extensively at a Moorestown High School football reunion less than two years ago. While it is difficult to prove a negative- Dave Robinson was not a resident of Mount Holly- it's impossible to prove that he was because the evidence does not exist. - I think the warning is too hard, but it definitely inappropriate to template the regulars with a cold, hard template designed for vandals. Especially since you DID include references. The problem is that you used blogs. There are plenty of other reliable sources that could easily be found in the cases that I checked. Packerfansam, your contributions are valued! I frequently see your edits come up on my watchlist. You're doing a great job overall! I usually skip reviewing your edits because they're always high quality. Just be a bit more careful to only use high quality references like newspapers, magazines, etc. In cases like these, you can use official city websites for city nicknames. Hi, mate. I do a bit of work on the military history project and came across James Loy (United States Navy) in the unassessed category. While I make no judgements on the subject, please be advised that in the past the Wikipedia community has held that receiving a Silver Star does not by itself make a subject notable (by Wikipedia standards in WP:N). I don't necessarily agree with this policy as I believe that a Silver Star is reasonably notable decoration especially when compared against awards that other people receive who are considered notable (e.g. certain types of actors, etc.). Nevertheless, what I'm saying is just be careful when creating articles for similar subjects as, while I don't object, other people might and they might end up at WP:AFD. A way that you can help stop this from happening is by adding multiple sources and by finding other things that make the subjects notable, e.g. significant coverage in books, films, other awards, other work that is notable, etc. Hope this helps. Just so you know, I nominated Henry Blomberg for deletion. You may visit the appropriate page and make a case for why you believe a DSC recipient is inherently notable. Now I don't know how this will go, but I think it may be found as non-notable due to the number of recipients. In the mean time I'd recommend you perhaps stop adding articles on DSC recipients just in case this determines they are not notable and they are subsequently deleted. Hey. I was wondering if you might like some advice on which articles might be notable, so that your hard work isn't lost when they're unfortunately deleted for being non-notable per lack of non-trivial coverage in Reliable Sources? As a hard and fast rule, if the person has only won a second-tier award like the DSO or Navy Cross, and haven't done anything else in their military or civilian career, then they're probably non-notable and will be deleted, either through AfD or by being prodded. However, there are a number of articles you've created that won't be deleted, and that I would defend at AfD. To take two examples you recently created: Benjamin Hilliker would be automatically notable, as he won the Medal of Honor and there will undoubtedly be Reliable Sources giving him more than trivial coverage, like all Medal of Honor/Victoria Cross/ Hero of the Soviet Union winners. And Clarence Ekstrom would also probably be notable, as a flag officer of high rank and also being the commander of an escort carrier - both of which would probably again grant him non-trivial coverage in reliable sources. I hope this helps, and you're not downhearted by the AfD nominations so far, and the prod deletions of other articles that will come after the AfDs are closed. If you'd like to run any future articles past me first, before creating them, to see if they'd be notable, I'd be more than happy to help, as well as answer any questions about this. Academy lists
Hi. Thanks for all the help on the various Academy alumni lists. Others have helped too, but mainly it's been me working on User:Rlevse/files#Featured_lists for just over a year now. So I really appreciate the help. AF has one list, Navy several an, and West Point a many. AF and Navy are all FLs. WP I'm still working on, only some are FLs. - This still needs done, can do after we get them all in the table though. Also, I think we should limit the list to generals during or because of the war; not only will this keep it in line with the Confederates, but it will keep the list to a manageable size. - I'm having the same trouble; Charles E. Tucker, Jr., for example, doesn't seem to assert any specific notable office. (The claim of "United States Department of Defense Counsel General" is ambiguous: he was actually not the General Counsel, but just a member of the General Counsel's staff.) That third criterion in the WP:MILPEOPLE essay, "held a rank considered to be a flag or general officer, or their historical equivalents", seems to be rather broad: that's anyone at 1 star rank/O-7/NATO OF-6 or above. 10 U.S.C. § 526 authorizes 302 Army + 216 Navy + 279 Air Force + 80 Marines + 12 joint duty + 10 activated reserve, for a possible 899 active at the same time, and that's just current, not retired; and just the United States, not the other 150+ countries. I'm not sure that criterion would survive elevating WP:MILPEOPLE from essay to guideline status. Perhaps there needs to be a discussion about that third criterion in general? I could understand if it said 4-star/O-10 was automatically notable— but 1-star? --Closeapple (talk) 00:38, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
