Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello PakistaniDramaFan, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (serial) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. 💵Money💵emoji💵Talk💸Help out at CCI! 12:39, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (serial) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (serial), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. –eggofreason(talk · contribs) 16:37, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am writing this to lift ban on account "Pakistani Drama Fan" and "Popular Pakistani Drama". Earlier I was unaware of the creation of multiple accounts. Now that I am aware of Wikipedia's rules and regulations, I accept my mistake and promises to never commit this mistake again.PakistaniDramaFan (talk) 09:44, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please respond to the following questions in your next unblock appeal, explaining in your own words:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. You'll also need to answer 331dot's question, below. The fact that you want both accounts unblocked substantially counts against you, as it makes it clear you do not understand WP:SOCK. So you'll need to explain why it was inappropriate to ask for both accounts to be unblocked, and tell us which single account you'll use going forward. Yamla (talk) 11:10, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You can't have both accounts unblocked. Which one will you be using? 331dot (talk) 10:57, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

What is copyright? Copyright provides protection to authors and writers for their original work. It includes various mediums such as music, literature, art and etc. Copyright prevents copying and stealing other people’s work and it also ensures great quality of work. How is Wikipedia licensed? Accoridng to information found on Wikipedia copyright page, Wikipedia is licensed to the public under several liberal license. Text and images on Wikipedia are also co-licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia? To safeguard the work of original authors and writers. It also ensures that only quality work is produced. Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content? If an image or text falls under public domain and does not have a copyright holder. How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future? After reading the copyright rules and regulations of Wikipedia, I promise to never violate any of the rules again in the future. I will make sure the edits posted under my username are original and of good quality. I will not indulge myself in any activity that is against Wikipedia’s rules. I accept that it was inappropriate of me to ask for both accounts to be unblocked. I am sorry. I was unaware of the rules against multiple accounts. Now that I have read and understood rules regarding WP:Sock I would want only one of my account to be unblocked that is PakistaniDramaFan. Thanks. Hope you will accept my apology. Regards.PakistaniDramaFan (talk) 08:32, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

There are at least three problems with these answers. You say that Text and images on Wikipedia are co-licensed, but have listed only one license. You say "It also ensures that only quality work is produced". This is incorrect. Indeed, our copyright policy makes it almost certain that the quality of Wikipedia articles is lower. You'll need to explain why. And your answer to "Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?" is largely wrong and is missing an entire policy. • Checkuser/blocking admin comment: acknowledging the two requests here. I don't see any ongoing abuse, so if the user's next request is a satisfactory response to Yamla's concerns, any admin should feel free to unblock. But only one of their accounts, not both. PakistaniDramaFan, if you have a good reason why you want to use two accounts which is allowed by our multiple accounts policy, you should email your request to the arbitration committee. Thanks. Request reason:

Sorry for the mistakes in my previous answer. I hope this answer is correct and clear. Wikipedia is licensed through various way. As listed in Wikipedia copyright terms and conditions there are non-commercial licenses, educational licenses, permissive licenses, attribution licenses, copyleft licenses, Creative Commons licenses, GNU Free Documentation License and typical commercial licenses. While reading through Wikipedia copyright and licensing terms I found out more about copyleft licenses. Most of the images fall under public domain or licensed under copyleft licenses, for example Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License. However there are many images which are copyrighted and used on Wikipedia as it is supported by the “fair use” clause of US copyright law. As far as permission to copy, distribute and modify is concerned, Wikipedia grants permission to use Wikipedia’s text under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License and GNU Free Documentation License. However there are very narrow chances that copyrighted images and text can be used without permission under the fair use clause of US copyright law. I hope this is a satisfactory response, if not then please tell me where am I wrong. Furthermore, I would like only one of my accounts to be unblocked that is PakistaniDramaFan. Hello, PakistaniDramaFan. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 00:52, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
