Contributions and COI[edit]

Thanks for your offer to assist with updating the NMSI articles. You may have already read the Wikipedia guideline on conflict of interest (COI), which, although it recommends that editors do not edit articles in which they are personally involved, does not actually forbid it. Therefore, if there are factual errors which can be demonstrated to be wrong (e.g. with references), then as long as you take great care to avoid bias, I think you should be okay. If you are concerned about accusations, then the best way to proceed would be to obtain a community consensus for any changes that you propose, initially by inviting comments on the relevant article's talk page.

Wikipedia does need experts who can provide material for its articles, so it would be unfortunate if you were only able to take an indirect part in the project. One of the mottoes for Wikipedia is "Be Bold" – if you get it wrong, then I'm sure someone will revert the edit to a previous version, and we should all assume good faith before jumping to conclusions about bias. Cheers. -- MightyWarrior (talk) 12:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
