Good job[edit]

Hi Penwatchdog. I just read I AM THE BEST ARTIST Rene and found it very interesting. Thanks for contributing it. I must congratulate you on learning how to use Wikipedia in such a short time. Well done. 64.40.57.47 (talk) 18:07, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Encouragement[edit]

I'm guessing, but I expect your time here has been as bad as mine. Being mistreated, having your stuff deleted and such. I know how bad it sucks. But you are important. You are a writer and encyclopedias are made up of words written by... well... writers. That means you are more important than those other guys. You know it and I know it. So don't let them mess with you or get you down. You belong here at this project and your contributions are important.

The Writer's Barnstar
In appreciation for contributing valuable articles to Wikipedia and being a damn good writer, I'm happy to present Penwatchdog the Writer's Barnstar. You've done a lot of good work, and that needs to be recognized by the community. You have knowledge of many things that are not covered by the encyclopedia, and by contributing, you are helping to improve the project. You are valuable and I appreciate the work you've done. 64.40.54.190 (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I also wanted to thank you for the IATBA article. I didn't know anything about Rene or the Soho art scene until I read your article, so thanks for that. I've found a number of references about Rene and I'll try and put those somewhere for any future Rene article. Best of luck to you. 64.40.54.190 (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have to second that. mabdul 13:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use of File:Toyin Odutola (Nigerian, born 1985), Lonely Chamber (T.O.), 2011, pen ink and marker on paper, 12 X 9 inches.jpg[edit]

Hi Penwatchdog. File:Toyin Odutola (Nigerian, born 1985), Lonely Chamber (T.O.), 2011, pen ink and marker on paper, 12 X 9 inches.jpg is licensed as a non-free image; it's not a file from Commons. Each use of a non-free image must comply with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy and the use of this file in Ballpoint pen artwork does not. There are a couple of problems with the file's use in the article.

  1. The file lacks the separate specific non-free use rationale required by WP:NFCC#10c for the ballpoint pen article; it has a rationale for Toyin Odutola, but not for ballpoint pen article. If you feel that the non-free use of this image in the article is justified, then please provide the required non-free use rationale for the file's use before re-adding the file to the article per WP:NFCCE. Please note, however, that providing a rationale does not automatically mean compliance, and futher discussion at WP:FFD may be needed to determine whether the particular non-free use is OK.
  2. The file's use in the ballpoint pen article is also problematic per WP:NFCC#8 because that is a more general article about a specific type of artwork, not a specific discussion of this particular work by Odutola. In fact, Odutola is mentioned by name only twice in the article and none of those mentions require a non-free image be seen by the reader to be understood, so the context for non-free use is lacking. If you are able to add more detailed sourced critical commentary about the work itself, then that would help provide the justification for non-free use required by NFCC#8.

Finally, the fact that the file has been used for a long time or is used in other articles are not really justifications for non-free use. Lots of non-free files have been incorrectly added to articles over the years, and it sometimes takes time for someone to notice those that have. Moreover, as I mentioned above, each use of a non-free file needs to comply with relevant policy, so the fact that the same file is used in another article does not automatically means all non-free uses of the file in all articles is justified. If you want the opinion of others on this, you can ask at WT:NFCC or WP:MCQ. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:41, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
