Message Replies[edit]

I agree that Bateson is unclear, and I don't think this can be settled without the original reference. I've added a comment to that effect in Talk:Gregory Bateson#Difference in Information or Bit.3F. If we could tag it with something like Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup#Verifiability and sources, then I'd be happy to leave it as-is for now. (I think it's an important quote and it's worth the effort to get it right.) Vagary 21:23, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

3RR[edit]

As you're reverting a lot at New anti-Semitism, I want to make sure you've been told about the 3RR rule. Any undoing of another editor's work, in whole or in part, whether involving the same material or different material each time, is a revert; and only three of those are allowed in 24 hours. Please review WP:3RR carefully. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 16:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ben's "big three issues" with NAS article[edit]

Going forward, I suggest a focus on dealing with these three issues with the NAS article. If we can effectively tackle these at least my concerns over the article will be addressed. My "big three issues" with the NAS articles are as follows:

EUMC[edit]

Hi Pertn, and thanks for your message. The document I have been looking at recently is the EUMC report that was cited as the source of the definition endorsed by the UK all-party committee. Actually, it wasn't the source of the definition, but it is still an important source in its own right and if we could work together to summarise it accurately, that would be great. My ideal long-term solution is to work up articles on Antisemitism in the nineteenth century, Antisemitism in the twentieth century and Antisemitism in the twenty-first century, which would be historical accounts of events and ideas rather than an attempt to write an article around a set of controversial viewpoints.Itsmejudith 12:12, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Waste of Time[edit]

Dear Pertn:

I believe you to be the owner of Ryodox's Xanga Weblog and a blatent sock puppet for Ryodox based upon the apparent similarities in your pattern of nonsensical editing with the exception of 1 appropriate revert to the Jimmy Carter article. Please refrain from being a nuisance.

DrunkenDialer

Hi, mr detective. The only correct thing with your entry here is the title. I do not have the faintest clue about what you are talking about. Have never heard of "Rydox" and frankly, my entries aren't nonsense. pertn 20:19, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I Heart Fjords, Tall Aloof Blondness, & PEACEFUL PROSPERITY: in short, I LOVE NORWAY![edit]

Hey -- saw your question/comment on 'my' talk page regarding my "controversial edits" -- I assume you are referring to my recent edits on the Israel lobby in the United States page. I'm not so sure what is controversial about my edits though; I'm just restating things that other notable people have already said/wrote, trying to make this important info more widely available. But how about this: I'll register/log in if you can get me a passport and/or citizenship so that I can come and live in beautiful, peaceful, glowing, frische-Luft, uncontroversial, equitable income distribution + universal healthcare Norway. How about it? Does that sound like an even trade? But seriously though: do you think that certain strains of antisemitism have been increasing there in Norway and/or Scandinavia as a whole in the last few years? If so, I'd like to read your perceptions/thoughts/ideas on this resurgence. Thanks! --172.128.131.86 14:30, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Good to hear that you know a little bit about Norway, and even a little something about our self-perception it seems. Oh yeah, of course you could come here! If you are from the EU, you don't need a visa or anything, and jobs are in abundance (seriously). I do not remember your edit, really. I did not say YOUR EDIT was controversial, I said you were editing a controversial topic. in New Antisemitism there has been dreadful and boring revert-war and you stepped right into it. Your edits will probably be removed soon by someone, just kind of caught in the crossfire. When it comes to a "resurgence" of antismeitism in Norway, I must be plain and say that the answer is No. There is no evidence to this. I know a few people on the far left, in the antiglobalization movement and so on, and I have no indication at all that they are antisemites. I find it quite absurd to discuss it also, when the anti-muslim and anti-arab sentiments are so much more common and so much stronger both in Europe in general and in Norway and especially given the fact that the people crying "wolf" about the "new antisemitism" often are people who themselves express great prejudice against arabs and muslims. pertn 14:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish lobby[edit]

You could try a RFC but I am dubious about it helping. I'm not losing sleep over the article because as it stands it is evidently POV, and is an indictment of those editors who remove the tags expressing this concern. Once I have more spare time I may look at properly sourcing the arguments you mention, as sources do exist ([http://www.gla.ac.uk/centres/mediagroup/badnews.htm here for example). Catchpole 11:13, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: I just read through the whole Jewish Lobby talk page and the article is as messy as ever and needs work which I don't have time to do. FYI Jayjig stopped editing as of August 3 2007. See User_talk:Jayjig It seems that there are less obstructionist people editing page now. Someone needs to get rid of that Jewish lobby (disambiguation) page and the page should reflect ALL the uses. I seems absurd that even references to "Jewish lobbies" where Jews lobby together on legitimate issues like anti-Semitism within a country or against any discriminatory laws against Jews would NOT be covered in such an article. I wish SOMEONE would just go back in there and clean it up. Carol Moore 03:12, 11 November 2007 (UTC)User:Carolmooredc User talk:Carolmooredc

JL meditation talk[edit]

Hi. I am not sure if I understood you correctly. Did you mean that France differs also from the Nordic countries in this respect? I do agree with your cultural point, and I must say I was not aware of the climate in France. Anyway, I don't think France should be generalized to count for europe here. I have searched in vain, but I actually do believe that it has been used uncontroversially even by ministers here in Norway, but I am starting to think that my memory may betray me. I'll see if I find it, but even if I do find it, it would be inadmissable OR since usage is not a RS only comments on usage. cheers! pertn (talk) 08:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pertn,
Thank you for your comments.
I agree with everything your write. Particularly with the fact that general opinion in France should not be generalized to all the world (and even to all Europe).
I am not aware of opinion in Norway... :-) I just can say that in Belgium or France, you could be sued in justice if you used this expression or at least, that if you would use this, you would be accused of antisemitism in some media (there are exemples) and you would NOT get reparation in justice for diffamation (an exemple is Dieudonné). I could not guess what would happen in Germany but I would not dare to try. This is maybe because there are 500,000 Jews in France and because of the Holocaust in Germany. Antisemitism is a far more sensitive issue there.
North Europe (and the Netherlands) are more liberal (for expression freedom) as well as the US (where negationnism is considered an opinion and not a crime).
There is definitely a cultural différence and the article should give due:weight to all of them.
But please, i don't want to interfere in this article or his content ! My only point was that to underline MAYBE there was conflict between EDITORS because there was a cultural difference in the perception of this expression.

JL page and mediation[edit]

Hi, I saw your comments on the JL mediation page; thank you for contributing. I think you and I are both trying to improve the JL page after it has spent so long locked in a very POV state.

I saw your comment about Norwegian politicians using the term, and came here to ask if you can find any references with comments in European media mentioning or discussing the "Jewish Lobby" - used to mean political lobby working for Jewish interests. It is not necessary to find sources "discussing" the term - sources "using" the term are good too. Unfortunately I am an English-only speaking American, and don't even know the best European journals to look in.

I realize you may not have the time or interest, but if you are interested I would appreciate the help. If you find any, you could add them to this personal user page of mine, HERE. Do not worry about the format; all that is needed is a link to the page. Thank you! Jgui (talk) 09:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and thank you! Sorry its taken me so long to reply. The first article is VERY interesting to me (the one from dagbladet). Is it possible to get an English translation - does this journal provide one on their website? I assume this is Norwegian (shows how worldly us Americans are!) - but google doesn't translate it, and InterTran (the only Norwegian translation I could find) doesn't do a very good job. For now I added it to my user page list; please let me know if you find any others or if you know of some way to get a translation. Thanks! Jgui (talk) 01:59, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Race and Class Review[edit]

Hi, I am not at a University, so will have to go to a library to find the article. Can you give me the title and author please? Thanks.--Cberlet (talk) 13:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help?[edit]

Please? The article on Culture was a total mess, too many cooks making too many random changes over many years. I just did a major revision, which I explained here. To a novice eye my revision was radical but in fact it was conservative - I simply cut all repetitions, fringe views, and irrelevant tangents, and sorted out what was left according to major distinct point of view. There is still LOTS left to do, although i want to make sure that whatever further changes or additions are made it is within a sensible framework/organization. Anyway, I would really appreciate your going over it and considering ways to further improve it. Thanks, Slrubenstein | Talk 17:14, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thank you so much for your generous words! If you look at Pilcha and Alottolearn's comments under the GA reassessment on the Culture talk page, you will see that both of them think that the previous version was superior to my rewrite and want to restore the earlier version!!
Anyway, from what I have seen I am sure that you could make important contributions to the article if you want to go ahead and edit. But if you prefer just to present proposals on the talk page I will still be appreciative. I am grateful for your attention! Slrubenstein | Talk 15:29, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments. I imagine organizational culture is relevant both to Management Studies (business schools?) and organizational psychology. Do you happen to know who in these fields first introduced the concept "culture" in a meaningful way (systematically, as an important tool) (and when)? And do you know where they got their idea of culture from, meaning, who outside of their own field influenced them? I think these ideas are important, but we need to know their context. Nazi, Swastika References Being Purged from Syrian Social Nationalist Party[edit]

Would you mind having a look at the problem of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party's Nazi history and swastika flag being systematically deleted/vandalized? This removes an important aspect of neutrality from the article. References from many reliable sources are provided. See its talk page. The edits are being done by users with IP addresses from very similar domains. Thanks, Histopher Critchens (talk) 20:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Latour quote[edit]

I have responded at the Talk page; in brief, I do not understand whatever issue you have with my adding the quote, but if you genuinely think it should be there, I would ask you to add it yourself in whatever way you find appropriate. I think the quote is valuable and illuminating, but it is not important enough to me to get into an edit war about. --Languagehat (talk) 16:54, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Pertn! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 941 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
