Tornado and Upper Falls

I don't know if you're aware, but there was a lengthy discussion at Talk:Upper Falls, West Virginia about Tornado and Upper Falls at which the consensus was to merge the articles. I see that the Board of Geographic Names has decided to call the place Tornado again, but the U.S. Census Bureau hasn't, and I doubt a pagemove would be uncontroversial at this point. Do you know why the BGN decided to change the name back? If they had a good reason to change it, that might apply to the Wikipedia article too. The citizens from the Tornado and Alum Creek region unanimously, by a vote, objected to the change in the name of the unincorporated town of Tornado,WV. Most of the attendees had never heard about a change in the Census name or the BGN change. The common use of Upper Falls of the Coal River is simply to describe a structure located in the Coal River. Senator Rockefeller, Senator Manchin, Congreswoman Capito and all local elected officials sent staff to the hearing and wrote letters to the BGN objecting to the two changes. Post office officials advised that the post office name for the community had been Tornado,WV since 1891. Upper Falls had been added as a variant name but was seldom used. The WV Division of Culture and History (WV Archives and History) also reported in its extensive reasearch of names in West Virginia, that Upper Falls had never been listed as a Place Name and the correct name of Upper Falls of Coal River had ceased to be used in their list in 1950. Tornado had been a confirmed place name since 1891. The problem with the Wikipedia site is that it is used by all electronic navigation devices as a reference for more information about the region. Since the name Upper Falls is not listed as a place in West Virginia and it is not found on West Virginia State maps, the site gives false and confusing information for travelers to the region. I looked up the news stories you mentioned, and you're right, the town voted for the name Tornado. Since there was only one other user who commented on the merge proposal, I'm going to go ahead and say there's a consensus to call it Tornado.
